It probably isn't being covered because (as far as I know) they haven't given themselves a cute name like the Tulip, Orange or Cedar revolutions. And I wouldn't expect one of those names as this Mexican movement isn't a U.S. operation with all of the sophisticated PR techniques that come with one.

Edited by: jingofever at: 9/16/06 7:37 pm

Complete speech of Lopez Obrador

Postby greencrow0 » Sun Sep 17, 2006 9:18 pm

translated from EL UNIVERSAL.com .mx
City of Mexico
Domingo 17 of September of 2006

00:01 Friends, friends, delegates, delegates of all the towns, colonies, municipalities, regions, states of our country.
Today it is an historical day. This Democratic National Convention has proclaimed the abolition of the present regime of corruption and privileges and has laid the the foundations for the construction and the establishment of a new Republic.

Before nothing, agrees to know in clearly so that we have taken east way. It is obvious that we did not act by whim or personal interest. Our decision and the one of million of Mexican represented here are the firm and worthy answer to those who returned the electoral will in appearance and has turned to the political institutions a grotesca farce.

How was originated is political crisis and who are the true people in charge?

From our point of view, the decomposition of the regime comes from distant spot, it was accentuated lately and it hurried and it was in the open with the electoral fraud.

This political crisis has like immediate antecedent the salinista project, that turned to the government a committee to the service of a minority of bankers, tie businessmen to the power, speculators, corrupt dealers of influences and politicians.

From the creation of this network of interests and complicities, the national policies were subordinated to the intention to maintain and to increase the privileges of a few, without concerning the destiny of the country and the fortunes of most of the Mexicans.

Since then, the main lineament of the regime has been to still privilege the financial interests on the social demands and, on the public interest.

In this frame of complicities and componendas between the economic power and the political power, the privatizations were carried out during the government of Salt mines.

Also, against this background, it must see the subject of the FOBAPROA, the sacking greater than it has been registered in the history of Mexico from the colonial time.

Let us remember that Zedillo, with the support of the PRI and the BREAD, the PRIAN, decided to turn the debts deprived of a few national debt.

To the arrival of Vicente Fox it was fortified and this network became more vulgar of complicities, to the degree that an employee of the banker Roberto Hernandez happened to be the one in charge of the public property.

But most serious it is than Fox became a traitor to the democracy and he was dedicated obcecadamente tenacious and, with all the resources to his disposition, to try to destroy to us politically.

In this crossed, Fox confabuló with Robert Hernandez, Claudius X. González, Carlos Salinas, Mariano Azuela, Diego Fernandez de Cevallos, Gastón Azcárraga and for it counted on the complicity of some mass media, of intellectual procurers, of dishonest journalists and of those who are made happen through judges.

In short, a our gang of delinquents of white neck and corrupt politicians formed against.

However, she agrees to ask to us so that this group was able to untie as much hatred, so that they even arrived at the impudence to promote the intolerancia, the clasismo and to use racism to distinguish themselves and to disqualify what we represented with dignity.

The answer is simple: they are scared to lose his privileges and it dominates the greed to them.

For that reason they do not accept the Alternative Project of Nation that we postulated and we defend. For that reason, to continue holding the Presidency of the Republic, it did not matter to them to run over the popular will and to break the constitutional order.

But we go to the bottom. What was what they really won? Hoping perhaps that pelele that imposed is going to them to mean tranquillity and political normality? Hoping perhaps that now yes nothing will prevent they to have left with the gas, the electrical industry and petroleum? Hoping perhaps that will follow making substantial businesses with impunity under protection of the public power and enjoying its fiscal privileges? Hoping perhaps that is going to continue sobajando the Nation of Mexico?

They are mistaken, will not happen. They are mistaken because luckly today a collective will ready to prevent it and because exists in our country million of Mexican we do not want that the power of the money supplants to the public power, that must be the true one to be able politician.

For all these reasons, this Convention, in accordance with Article 39 of the effective Constitution, has decided to break with them, to recover our sovereignty and to undertake the way for the construction of a new Republic.

They can remain with its pirate institutions and their President spurious, but they could remain with the patrimony of the Nation, neither with our convictions, nor with our dignity.

Friends and friends:

We are here for saying to them to the men of the old regime who we will not waver. We will never surrender. We are here for saying to the four winds that we will defend the right to the hope of our town, which we did not accept the opprobrium as destiny for our town.

That she hears herself well and that is heard far:

We did not accept that there are million undernourished and ill children, and without future.

We did not accept that to the young people, who were born under the sign of the neoliberalism, the right to the study takes off to them and condemns the social marginalization to them.

We did not accept the lack of budget nor the campaigns of loss of prestige against the public education.

We did not accept the violation of the rights of the women.

We did not accept that the women, to find a job, must be vejadas, because therefore they impose the cruel rules of the market.

We did not accept the discrimination by religious, ethnic or sexual reasons.

We did not accept that most of the old ones of the country they live in the abandonment and which who have retired after a work life, they receive a pension bargain.

We did not accept that to the workers, after the 40 years of age, the use opportunities refuse to them and treats to them like social pariahs.

We did not accept that the minimum wage does not reach so that the alive worker and maintains to its family with dignity and honor.

We did not accept that, before the shortage of woman, jobs and man they have labor days of more than 8 hours to the day.

We did not accept the child labour.

We did not accept that million of Mexican are forced to leave to their families and their towns, to go to look for work of the border across.

We did not accept that the farmer and the producer must sell cheap everything what they produce and to buy expensive everything what they need.

We did not accept the privatization of the electrical industry nor of petroleum in any of its modalities.

We did not accept that there is electoral fraud and it counts new. The fraud is not a closed case, is an open file.

We did not accept the sacking of the State Treasury. We will give precise pursuit him to the handling of the budget, to contracts of works and services and will denounce all act of corruption permanently.

We did not accept the nepotism, the influyentismo, the friendship, none of those you damage of the policy.

We did not accept the abandonment to the foreign interests.

We did not accept the clause of the Free Trade Agreement, according to which it stops the 2008 will be left the imports, the introduction of maize and fríjol of the foreigner free.

We did not accept the disloyal competition that suffers the national producers in benefit of the foreign producers.

We did not accept that it is continued degrading our territory, the natural resources, by the voracity of a few nationals and foreigners.

We did not accept that it continues the monopoly of tie companies to the power that avoid to the competition and force the Mexican consumers to pay more than abroad by the communications, the construction equipments, the credit cards and other products and services.

We did not accept the manipulation that practice some mass media, nor its arrogant scorn by the culture and the good pleasure.

We did not accept the authoritarianism, the repression nor the violation of the human rights.

And less we accepted that all these great injustices are product of the fatality and the destiny of our town.

No, companions and companions, friends and friends, this are the lamentable balance of the antipopular and entreguista regime that has come reigning and that today we have decided to abolish. For that reason it is an historical day.

How we imagined to the new Republic?

The new Republic will have, like superior objective, to promote the well-being, the happiness and the culture of all the Mexicans.

We inhaled a truely right society, elevated on the base of the democracy and the defense of the national sovereignty.

It interests to understand to us to us with all the sectors of good will, but we are going to persuade and to convince that by the good of all, the first poor men.

We will promote that the State of Well-being rises to constitutional rank to indeed guarantee the right to the feeding, the work, the health, the social security, the education and the house.

We will demand that one pays to the historical debt with the towns and indigenous communities, and will struggle by the fulfillment in the Agreements of San Andrés Larráinzar.

We will construct a new legality where the institutions are become attached to the constitutional mandate, serve all the same and protect to the weak one before the abuses of the fort.

We are going to undertake a sharp renovation of the public life being exiled the corruption, impunity and the influyentismo. Nobody will already be able to feel like owner and gentleman in our country.

Friends and friends:

In the process of construction of the new Republic we must take care of and take care of three fundamental aspects:

First. Not to fall in the violence, to evade the harassment and always within the framework to maintain our movement of the pacific civil resistance.

Second. Not to compromise, not to sell to us, not to fall in the game of always, the purchase of loyalties and consciences disguised of negotiation.

Third. We must fight with imagination and talent breaking the informative wall and to create alternative mechanisms of communication. We must make possible that the truth breaks through and arrives until the last corner of our mother country.

Friends and friends:

Today, this Democratic National Convention has made important decisions. The fruits of this original assembly are many. Not only we have rejected the usurping government but that we have decided to undertake the construction of a new Republic.

It was also approved the plan of pacific civil resistance and the preparation of the works it constitutional reform and to obtain that the institutions are truely of the town and for the town.

Fruit of this process that has ended at the Democratic National Convention has been, without a doubt, the creation of Progressive the Extended front.

This new political grouping will be the space to articulate to all the citizens and political and social organizations who were expressed during the campaign, as well as to receive new adhesions.

Progressive the Extended front arises at the precise moment in that, at sight of all, a block of rightist forces has been satisfied, from the open alliance and behaved shamelessly between the BREAD and the cupolas of the PRI.

So that Progressive the Extended front will have like primary target to face the preservative block, to the political arm of the minority rapaz that as much damage has caused to our country.

To end of accounts, we return to which it has been the history of Mexico. Before they were liberal and preservative. Now, in the political fight of our country there will be two different and opposed groups: rightists and progressives.

This Convention has decided to also create a new government, who is instituted to exert and to defend the rights of the nation.

The government who emerges will be obligadamente national. He will have a seat in the capital of the Republic and, at the same time, he will be traveling to observe, to listen to and to gather feeling of all the sectors and all the regions of the country.

There will be a cabinet, that is to say, a work party that integrates the diagnoses, proposes the solutions and examines the possibilities in each case. The resources, as it is obvious, are little, but the work of equipment, the honesty, the interaction with the society, will be able to turn the shortage effectiveness.

So that acceptance the position of President of Mexico?

I offer to you and the nation of Mexico my explanation. As opposed to the fraudulent operation that injured the electoral democracy and tries to stop the economic, social and cultural democratization; as opposed to the faccioso use of the Executive authority and the resources public of a candidate and a party; as opposed to the illegal and pandilleril interference of a good number of union industralists and caciques, those that already sanctify the clientelism; as opposed to the kidnapping of the institutions, that in this case, are typically their institutions, like the IFE, the Electoral Court and the Supreme Court of Justice; as opposed to all this, and before the accumulation of tests that we have presented/displayed and that cheatingly they were rejected, we maintain a certainty: we gained the presidential election.

Acceptance the position of President of Mexico because we rejected the imposition and the rupture of the constitutional order. To accept the electoral fraud, as some are proposing, and to recognize an usurping government, would imply indefinitely to pospone the democratic change in the country.

It would be to match to them, that I accept the imposition, turns to me leader of the national opposition and we matched that to them. No, for that reason acceptance the position of President of Mexico, because we rejected the imposition and the rupture of the constitutional order.

The triumph in the ballot boxes jeopardizes to us before our voters and the honest voters of the 2 of July that, political options aside believed in the validity of the election. That commitment with the democracy, is the one that it impels to us.

Our adversaries prevail with the money, the preservative prejudice, the injustice, the illegality, the informative means property very many. We counted on the will of change of million people.

The political regime of them was exhausted; however, from our point of view, the Presidency, this Presidency, symbolizes the hopes, the efforts and the yearning of social justice of the town of Mexico.

In addition, the order of President of Mexico is conferred to me within the framework of a movement pawned on transforming the institutions and authenticating the Republic, that is to say, to clarify the sense of the political life, today so clouded.

The Presidency, in a genuine democracy, is the right and daily interpretation of the feelings, of desires of the town, the feelings, desires of people and the community.

It is obvious that acceptable honorable east position not by ostentation or ambition to the power. I assume it, knowing full well that also by this I am even going to be attacked. But I do it along with convinced that thus I am going to continue contributing, many other Mexicans, women and men, like you, in the transformations of the country, by us and the new generations, by which they come behind, by our children, who we nurtured to see them progress and they do not protest to us because at the moment of definition we knew to be to the height of the circumstances.

In addition, in the present circumstances, to accept this order is an act of pacific civil resistance, and is what it agrees more to our movement. It is have so that they learn, have so that it learns to respect the popular will.

Friends and friends, companions, companions.

I speak to them with feeling and the heart. It is a mark of pride, is an honor to represent them. Have the security of which I will make with humility and conviction. I am not going to betray them, I am not going to betray the nation of Mexico. It is an honor to serve you and I am going to be always your servant.

I reiterate my commitment with you, with whom they gave to his confidence the 2 us of July, with many more, and mainly with the humiliated poor men and of our mother country.

Long live the Democratic National Convention!

Long live the new Republic!

Viva Mexico!

Viva Mexico!

Viva Mexico!

=========================

Eloquent...even hobbled by the google translation.

This is a defining moment in the struggle against the neoCon fascist globalists.

gc

Edited by: greencrow0 at: 9/17/06 7:25 pm
