Working Ann's Dead

Postby Pissed Off Cabbie » Sat Jun 24, 2006 9:43 pm

Well, it just goes to show what I've been saying about Deadheads. It's all about opportunism. There are the meek lambs among them, but the Type A personalities are ever-present in the scene. I've lived in San Francisco for twenty years, and the Alpha-Dead really wore me down.

Ann Coulter is the most lyingest, hypocritical cretin to come down the pike in a long time, and, if I were a Deadhead, I sure wouldn't want to claim her as one of my own. But, there you go. She's all your's, Deadheads.

You could spend some time over at the offical website, deadnetcentral.com/ , and read the opinions that the overwhelming majority of the regular posters there have of Ann Coulter. The insults get a bit too graphic for my taste, sometimes. But all in all, it couldn't happen to a more appropriate target than a venomous poison-pen below-the-belt rabbit puncher like Her Nibs.

And in the Political Discussions folder, any semblance of a Bushoid Right Wing Deadhead cohort has long since yielded the forum to a motley collection of liberals, libertarians, anarchists, socialists, freethinkers, independents, and apostate Republicans united in their loathing for the current administration.

Not that they were all that strong of a presence in the first place. In fact, I've put out repeated appeals for Bushite Deadheads to show up. Sadly, with no success...without any clay pigeons, it's not nearly as much fun to shoot skeet.

Ironic, given that Bush is president and his party controls both houses of Congress, you'd think there would be some fiercely triumphant Bush Republican voices willing to carry the standard of their leader. Instead, the fate of the Bush crowd on Deadnet resembles the aftermath of Tarleton's cavalry charge into Cowpens... these days, there are couple of token ride-bys by Redcoats and Tories, every now and then. But they clam up real quick when confronted with counterpoint.

The DNC index is searchable through a button, and it works much better than the ezboard search on this site, although for some reason it doesn't go back more than a few months, these days. Throw in a few terms, like "Coulter" or "Bush", and you'll get some idea of the prevailing political mood over there.

I should know, I've been a regular there for years. There's some good historical journalism in there, including lotsa links to stories that were underplayed- if not outright suppressed- by the Big Media outlets. The real action is found in Archive 1. Upon review, I admit to a bit of pride about our collective forum over there. Much of it was really ahead of the curve, particularly in regard to the Iraq invasion. And the Patriot Act, and the Padilla case, and Guantanamo...a lot of comments that put the lie to the idea that everybody in the U.S. was being fooled. In fact, we were way over the heads of the highly paid pundit staff at the major news organizations. Worthy of archiving, for those with a bit of spare storage space ;^) quadsucker.com/

Edited by: robertdreed at: 6/27/06 11:15 pm

Dead End

Postby Pissed Off Cabbie » Wed Jun 28, 2006 3:21 am

Any discussion over there about why Bobby and Mickey are guests at Bohemian Grove? Inquiring minds want to know.

Big Fun At The Grove

Postby Pissed Off Cabbie » Wed Jun 28, 2006 8:51 pm

I searched that Dead forum, and there was no mention of Bohemian Grove.

On the other hand, I called Mary Moore of Bohemian Grove Action Network, and got some of the dish. Mickey Hart is in the most prestigious camp out there, but has not answered to the question why. I asked her if satanism played a part in it, and she neither confirmed nor denied it. She said that McNally and others expressed their disapproval, but it hasn't caused them to seek employment elsewhere.

I get the idea that Deadheads who have heard about this are in denial. I'm sure it was much the same in Jonestown when things started to get out of hand.

Funny, I don't seem to recall signing on to a geographically isolated, politically oriented crisis cult ostensibly based on Utopian Marxist Socialism, from which escape turned out to be impossible.

But after all, my mom bought my sister a hula hoop (c.f P.O.C's comments in archive2.deadnetcentral.c...ee79a7d/0, page 3 ) when I was a child, so perhaps I've been traumatized by the experience to the point of massive memory loss...

DeadNetCentral's search function is sort of myopic, and requires a bit of focusing before achieving reasonable functionality. hotline.deadnetcentral.co...aXq3c3z.0@

If you get into Archive 1 Search, you get a few more results-

archive1.deadnetcentral.com/

but you get a lot more when you reach into the subset of Archive 1 that is headed "Discussions"-

archive2.deadnetcentral.c...@.4a85367b

When you search that subset's archive, you'll eventually happen upon the discussion below, which greatly resembles the RI board discussions on the same subject: it overwhelmingly consists of speculation based on a thimbleful of facts; a consensus position isn't achieved- you'll see, it's like herding cats; the ultimate findings are inconclusive; and the discussion eventually dwindles down and moves on to another topic.

Oh yeah: the linked discussion on the Grove topic dates from 1998, which probably explains why few Deadheads found the presence of Weir and Hart at the Grove this year worthy of bringing up. People have already processed the news.

archive2.deadnetcentral.c....ee79a7d/0

You'll note a good deal of pluralism of opinion on the Bohemian Grove, I think it's safe to say. Although the general attitude seems to be to give Weir and Hart the benefit of the doubt, in light of the fact that it's unclear exactly how malevolent attending the Grove encampment actually is. It isn't exactly like being caught molesting children, you have to admit that...

(or do you?)

By the way, Walter Cronkite, Chris Matthews and Charlie Rose have also attended the Grove, so I guess it's time to add them to the Blood-Drinking Satanist Enemies List.

Incidentally, anyone who thinks that the band members are unanimously put up on a pedestal and uncritically worshipped by Grateful Dead fans needs to plug their names in and search the various discussions on that website a while. It's entirely possible that you could find yourself saying "with fans like these, who needs enemies?" There's one guy who's pretty much done nothing but stay behind a drum kit with sticks in his hands ever since the band started, who escapes the factional vilification. The rest of them have all been toasted to cinders by different splinters of Deadworld at one point or another in the post-Garcia era, for variously defined transgressions.

On a tangential note: how many of the RI board favor talking with representatives of Iran and North Korea, over declaring permament, unyielding enmity with them, and foreswearing all negotiations?

Edited by: robertdreed at: 6/29/06 11:31 am

Grateful Republican

Postby Pissed Off Cabbie » Thu Jun 29, 2006 2:45 pm

*according to rock scullys book b.weir IS a registered republican*

Should I take Rock's word for that?

It was interesting to read all the Bohemian Grove apologists in that thread from '98. Obviously, there is a full political spectrum of Deadheads, not to mention Dead band members. That their music is not offensive to right-wingers is a shame, but, integrity is apparently hard to come by any more. Reaganites and Bush supporters of any kind are caught up in the machinery of war and bigotry, however naive they may be.

As for hula hoops; can you not identify sarcasm?

One thing you should NOT do is take the word of "the legendary rob" about that. He's a lovable cat and a truly unforgettable character, but factual recall isn't his long suit.

Same with Rock Scully, for that matter..."a nice guy who cen't remember shit", as Owsley once referred to him in an interview.

I've read Scully's book Living With The Dead, and I don't remember reading anything in there about Bob Weir ever, at any time being a "registered Republican."

I did, however, note several factual innaccuracies in that book regarding errors of chronology- things that simply could not have happened- at least, not where and when Scully portrays them as happening.

I don't have the book on hand to make certain beyond all doubt about the claim, one way or the other. But even if it transpires that Bob Weir was at one point a "registered Republican", he's long ago switched allegiance to the Democratic Party, their candidates and associated causes.

Let the witch-hunt continue...

I figured it out. ezboard snuck a line of code into my text, that worked to flag and zap my message. I had to find and erase it before my message would post.

Edited by: robertdreed at: 6/29/06 8:29 pm
