scary incident

don't know if this happens only to me. Today, I went with my son to check a different community center around my neighborhood. It is really the worst part of town, kinda slum area, but someone told me the center is actualy good and has cheap and very good classes for kids. So I went, and while my son was playing with other kids I sat to chat with the moms. My first "hit", mom of two, with heavy american accent, seems like she DOESn't belong there...among the lower classes. We kind of chat and she tells me how come she ended up living in a slum area, the explanation sounds bizarre, but you know, everything is possible. gradually, it becomes more bizarre as it turns out she is a daughter of a prominent (now retired) NASA/JPL space scientist, who lives in california. She immigrated to Israel and holds a PhD in Biochemistry and a tenured position in tel aviv u. well, so she must have means to live elsewhere, I mean even I do, with my welfare check. (my neighborhood is much better and has many yuppies gentrifying it). I decided to let go of the puzzle but i couldnt resist a google, having only her first name (odd name, though). I found her in the list of Biochemisty dept, and her publications, one of the recent ones is titled -" Enhanced Delivery of Drugs into and across the Skin by Ethosomal Carriers" and earlier publicatoin dealing with Rota virus...(one of the nastier kids viruses). well, paranoia abounds, and I do not think I will join that center...My nastier thoughts were "they are experimenting on slum kids", I hope I am totally and horribly wrong. Sharing thoughts with you, as one paranoid to others. -- Just to mention i did tell her, off handish that my only experience with "science" is as a guinea pig and mentioned my history as high school worker in a lab where they let handle the radioactive stuff. And actually, I told her, it was NASA project (relating to her father's job). She said - well, they should have informed you on precautions. ,,I said - doesn't it strike as odd that a lab hired a MINOR to handle radioactive work ? she smiled kinda ahh well, you know..these things happen. brrrr....now I need to check my skin.

I don't think she worked much there as she immigrated after her BSc she said and i see from the internet she has done her MSc and Phd here. She is probably the black sheep of her father's familiy, namely, the one who is assigned to be a "zionist" and "help israel" she is also slightly religious, kind of "traditional". Her siblings are American and live in california, she mentioned they had lived for a while in MD, near DC for her father's job placement. But this is all, probably 20 yrs ago ? or so. For me hearing Maryland is a trigger. -- i'd write her name, but it feels like "slandering" because it is based on a hunch and circumstantial evidence (although quite disturbing ones). It is just that this is the second time I found bizarre situations in a local community center leading to some paranoia about "experimenting" on slum kids. (you have to understand that my area is basically arab, and low class jews spotted with VERY VERY rich people who kind of live in fortresses within those neighborhoods). There is a wide gap, AND there are many arabs who for some people here are considered second easy game. I could very well be totally OFF, but it is bizarre that in each of those VERY VERY poor centers (this is like Harlem for americans) there is suddenly one anglo saxon upper class, medically/scientifically professional "mom" who befriends the natives...(and can certainly afford a better place). In both these cases those moms clearly stated "right wing" somewhat bigotted credo. (shamelessly). So it wasn't socialism, or pluralism that brought them to those centers. My trauma certainly makes me very suspicious and careful, and usually, to my horror, in many times my worse wild guesses turn out to be TRUE...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/frown.gif ALT=":(">

well, I googled her (you didn't give the name, but it was enough). The transdermal delivery systems she researches have lots of legitimate uses. Skin infections, hair loss, sunscreen were a few mentioned. But, her interest is in the delivery mechanism itself...how to get substances to penetrate the skin more effectively...so whether your foreboding is correct or not, the research will definitely be of interest to people who'd like to be able to kill us with a handshake. Didn't find any biographical stuff on her yet. And where you found her is odd and it would not be the first time that the poor would be used for such research. She's one of the officers on the Israeli chapter of the "controlled release society" who study medical delivery systems, from what I can gather. <a href="http://www.icrs.org.il/profile.htm">www.icrs.org.il/profile.htm</a> Uh oh.... I found this article. it's about the bungled mossad assassination attempt in Jordan (I guess israel and Jordan cooperate on some of this nastiness) that may have involved a transdermal delivery system, as no traces of any delivery mechanism were found...but he was clearly drugged. thanks DE. I said I wasn't sure about anything, it just happened and my personal history makes this meeting fatally triggering and scary. And your guess is as good as mine given the bizarre circumstances. -- I think that for me, (if this is indeed what I think she was doing) to watch these kind of horrors from an adult stance is terrible and also healing in a way, i can sense the difference between me as victim=child of people like her, and me as an adult who is able to spot and see through the evil people, stand up and make very certain they know i know of these crimes so "stay off MY turf" etc. But it is also horrible to realize where our civilization IS these days, at very very LOW point. these are predators who have the false facade of dignity (scientist, academics...), this is considered, probably, OK in a way to do that. maybe they rationalize their greed as "breaking eggs for advancement". but in essence this is nazi material. I was just thinking how difficult it would be for a low class mother to figure out the true intentions of this "helper". Namely,if you are a very poor ignorant mother, and suddenly this important, educated person is interested in your child, maybe offering to tutor her/him....etc. etc. self protection here is unlikely, given the social gaps and images.
