Back in art school, I heard a lecture about the Paris fashion industry under the Nazi Occupation. The Germans wanted to show that things hadn't changed much under their jackboots, so they permitted the French to continue with their fashion shows.<br><br>So, the designers set up elaborate fashion shots of haute couture models in front of bombed-out buildings, wrecked trains, etc. Some even included secret messages, I believe. It took a while for the Germans to catch on, but in the meantime the world could see the reality peeking out behind the facade.<br><br>That being said, I'm not sure these are like those. These really do seem to glorify fascist chic. What I find most disturbing is the inhuman (Aryan?), almost robotic perfection of the mannekins. The models look like Gigolo Jane or something. a lot of things will always be read differently by different groups of people, the fashionastas are too stupid and vacuuos to see the sub text but others will,<br>i think its clear that the photos show a menacing present day scenario<br>rednecks love south park because they are not interested in the sub text, my mum hates south park because its gross,<br>i myself stopped watching it years ago but thought it quite intelligent on some levels, moronic on others,<br><br>it interests me that it is linked to pornography, all clothing shoots are soft porn in varying degrees, and so what?<br>i as a hetero sexual male happen to think that the female form is just about the most beautiful thing on earth, <br>and if healthy gorgeous young women are interested in displaying theyre naked bodies and i find them pleasing to the eye whats the problem,<br><br>we have to learn to distinguish between nasty and destructive actions and harmless ones,<br>trafficking young girls and boys and selling them is a disgusting crime and a whole lot more should be being done to stop it,<br>but adult women who consentually strip and men that enjoy it, or vice versa, should be given a break,<br>(however, i now totally contradict everything i have just said and report that i read very convincing studies recently that showed that access to porn on the internet increases violent and sexual assaults aginst women especially, so i dont know what to say about that) <p></p><i></i>

problem number one smithtalk is around the choice aspect. who is choosing what.<br>problem number two is around the control aspect. having a photo of someone is a way of owning them. in violent porn, the owner is in a relationship of control in which the subject is... well, utterly subjugated. does that help you sort it out? <p></p><i></i>

Has anyone caught the radio/tv spots from Old Navy? They use the wonderful catch phrase "Get you Fash-on". Teasing, feeding, training, controlling?<br><br>I know people who pity me because I don't "own" property, don't (though they insist on saying can't) drive, rarely watch movies or TV and don't go out much. Then they whine about their marriage, car, debts and the crap on TV. All while telling me I should be more like them!<br><br>Fascism requires a certain state of mind. I just aint got it. <p></p><i></i>
