Wolfmoon Lady (aka Morganwolf), welcome back under the new moniker! Yeah, ironic that you mention the Boston Red Sox because that's where William Rivers Pitt is from.... and he wrote a great piece about perseverance after they won the world series: Believe.

Quote:
In the end, the moral of this Red Sox victory in the World Series is about perseverance in the face of what appeared in every way to be impossible odds. In my business, and over the last several years, perseverance has not merely been a helpful character trait, but an absolute requirement for mental and emotional stability.

I saw that Molly Ivins piece too -- glad she's speaking up. Hillary is an embarassment to the Democratic party (she's not the only one, unfortunately).

I continue to dream as well.... and haven't completely given up. Tonight, I decided to e-mail my congressman regarding this idea of walking out on Bush. Probably a waste of time, but I'm trying to BELIEVE.

My letter, for what it's worth:

Quote:
Dear Representative,

I am frustrated, angry, and outraged at the extreme and anti-democratic policies that the Bush administration has been pursuing since it came to power.

Please consider something extreme and unprecedented in response: walk out on President Bush during next week's State of the Union address. Please keep reading and don't dismiss this. The idea was suggested by writer William Rivers Pitt and I believe it would be very effective.

Democrats: Get Up and Walk Out
by William Rivers Pitt
www.truthout.org/docs_2006/012206A.shtml

I've voted exclusively for Democrats all my life, in every election where I could, and I'm 52 years old. However, I believe the Democratic party is going under. Too many of your colleagues on the left side of the aisle are compromised by corporate interests or simply too weak to stand up for the people.

I do not count you among the spineless Democrats (although I was very disappointed that you voted for the bankruptcy bill), but I'm telling you now what seems so obvious to many liberals and progressives outside the beltway. This country is quite possibly on the verge of a constitutional crisis, and the only people speaking out and fighting "the enemy within" are those with little to no power or influence. Even Al Gore's recent speech made no difference.

I beg you to take this seriously. If you agree that a walk-out is a good idea, please organize your colleagues in solidarity to make this bold statement. We desperately need leaders who will stand up, speak out, and demand change.

Yours sincerely,

K.W.

Edited by: manxkat at: 1/23/06 10:42 pm
