Holy sheet! Wait a minute, is "appointing" a VP provided for in the Constitution? I mean, we the voters elected him (well, sorta some did), so -to-speak, so by what right can there be an appointment?

Edited by: chiggerbit at: 10/18/05 3:56 pm

Appointment of VP

Postby Peachtree Pam » Tue Oct 18, 2005 5:54 pm

Hi Chig,

Yes, it's true: under the 25th amendment to the Constitution (1967) the president can appoint a VP, subject to a confirming vote by both houses of Congress. Example: Nixon appointed Ford as VP (after Agnew resigned). When Nixon resigned, Ford became the prez and appointed Nelson Rockefeller as VP. Squeaky Fromm tried to take out Ford so Nelson could be prez, but she missed.

I've been reading back through some of the history on this and the Franklin spy scandal. I keep getting stuck at how quickly Ashcroft handed over the investigation and Fitzy stepped in. And Ashcroft then later resigned. What did he know? Also, I can't believe that AIPAC hasn't been shut down.

Interesting timeline here:

civillibertarian.blogspot...-gate.html

Shoot, I should have remembered that, Peachy. Wow, a woman and a black, all at one time. If Condi-road-kill-of-history Rice weren't so annoying, it would all be worth it. Wonder if she would go down any better than Miers has with the reich-eous.

Indictments

Postby Peachtree Pam » Tue Oct 18, 2005 6:23 pm

This is from Wayne Madsen Report:

October 18, 2005 -- In a rare public announcement by the spokesman for CIA leak special prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald, Randall Samborn said that if and when there are any announcements in the case, they will be made from Washington, not Chicago where Fitzgerald serves as U.S. Attorney for Northern Illinois. Samborn is the Public Information Officer for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Chicago. Fitzgerald has been detailed to Washington during his two and a half year investigation of the CIA leak matter. There is speculation that the announcements of indictments will come on Wednesday, October 19. The Grand Jury will be seated on Wednesday and its mandate is due to expire on October 28 unless it is extended, which a number of informed observers doubt will occur.

www.waynemadsenreport.com/

I read somewhere that Time had held back publication of its magazine to see what would happen.

CNN International stoically reporting on Saddam Hussain trial, carefully ignoring Fitz.

optimism is nice...

Postby Jen » Tue Oct 18, 2005 7:22 pm

I'm sticking with this board. It's got by far the most optimistic posts about what is about to happen...you should see the not-so-hopeful stuff being posted at sites like DU. According to them, Fitz is a "paid referee," and absolutely nothing is going to happen on Wednesday.
