I don't think the existence of the Evergreen Supertanker -- an airplane designed to put out forest fires -- is evidence for chemtrails.

It's a plane designed to *drop flame retardant on fires.*

It's proof of nothing.

And weather modification is listed as a possible use. So what? Weather modification has been around for a long time. It's not a secret technology, and if it was, why would Evergreen brag about it on their friggin' website?

I had a discussion with a friend who was a pilot in 'Nam. He's a guy prone to believe just about any conspiracy theory -- Planet X, underground UFO bases, and some of the more far-out Coast to Coast guests (Dr. Dan and the like). But he was a pilot, and he understands that contrails form in different ways depending upon wildly-varying atmospheric conditions. He thinks chemtrails are a ruse. I have every reason to trust an experienced figher pilot over accounts from people who have never flown a plane.

And again, is it possible to stifle the personal attacks and accusations just because someone disagrees with your theories? I am completely open to weighing new evidence about chemtrails, I just haven't seen anything convincing. If that pushes your personal buttons, fine, but questioning my integrity is... well... let's just say it says volumes about your own integrity.

Here in the SF Bay area I've watched the planes drawing the 'X's in the sky right over a major city while planes coming in and out of Oakland and SFO airports at the same altitudes don't have so much as a contrail.
So much for 'atmospheric conditions for contrails.'

I had read about it before it started happening right in front of my damn eyes with regularity late last year.

Senate Bill 517 authorized funding and oversight of weather modification as of 10/1/05 so this is probably why things picked up recently.

A memo went out to employees at NOAA on 9/30/05 telling employees not to talk to press. Regular contrails are bad enough, no? (Not 'bad enough' in the sense that we should forget about finding evidence for chemtrails - I am open to evidence on that - but bad enough in the sense that they are bad for our air, our lungs etc). Maybe regular contrails are worse than we know. There's an open crime.

Interesting pics, Connut. I'm still not convinced that they represent chemtrails. There are plenty of cool contrail photos here, too:

www.astro.ku.dk/~holger/IDA/STSHH.html

Most people don't understand how contrails can change due to natural conditions. I know I didn't until I talked to a pilot. So I did what I usually do when approaching a subject I know little about -- I read all sides of the debate. I'd be willing to bet that most (not all, but most) chemtrail advocates have not read the skeptical sites with an open mind. At least that has been the case with many of those I've spoken to about the issue since it first emerged in the 90s -- they are not familiar with the science and history of contrails and belittle the skeptics. (The skeptics are not immune to snarky comments, either.)

I encourage anyone with an interest in the subject to read both sides. Re: Chemtrail

Postby StarmanSkye » Tue Feb 28, 2006 10:23 pm

Thanks for the alternative-skeptics links Prof. Pan -- I'll make an effort to check 'em out. I'm far from sure what chemtrails are all about -- tho I suspect there's SOMETHING there the PTB don't want us to know.

I doubt that supertankers like the Evergreen fleet have much if anything to do with what's described as evidence of chemtrails. The Evergreen-type tankers shown have evident use for specific purposes, ie. cloud-seeding and chemical dispersal for fire-suppression and oil-spill mediation. Whatever chemtrails 'are' seems linked to finely-vaporized dispersal through jet-engine exhausts -- NOT in the kind of bulk-release or blanket-dispersal the tankers are designed for.

As far as that goes -- I recall reading once (a coupla years ago at least) a supposed insider-leak by an aircraft technician who described retrofitting commercial aircraft with piping and valves that discharged a chemical-mixture solution into the jet's exhaust-gas discharge stream -- I would expect that NO program with such an evidently large link to fleets of commercial and/or military aircraft could remain totally secret, and that ground-crews or pilots would talk about 'odd' incidents or rumours or noting suspicious equipment on their aircraft -- even if it was done anonymously.

Also: Re: theory that 'contrails' contribute to global dimming --I remember reading that in the several days following 911 when all commercial aircraft were grounded, numerous folks reported how unusually clear the skies were (even though hundreds of military aircraft were flying protective 'cover' -- in what had to be an incredibly useless and wasteful act with limited PR and psychological value). Contrails are essentially water-vapor trails with carbon-dioxide and extremely trace amounts of hydrocarbon particles. I doubt ordinary contrails have a significant effect on increasing the planet's albedo (reflectance).

On a related note -- Perhaps part of the discrepancy noted in some planes leaving noticeable exhaust-trails (whether chemtrails or contrails) may be due to different engines -- ie., turbofans are more fuel-efficient, are somewhat slower, and have a lower exhaust temperature, which would effect how visible resulting vapor-trails are. But too -- dispersal of sub-micron ion-salts as suggested occurs in chemtrails as per secret DOD/govt. projects isn't necessarily always going to be visible. Chemtrail spraying of barium and aluminum and/or other metallic salts will tend to form long-lasting vapor-trail clouds because these extremely tiny electrically-charged particles (they ARE ions) will rapidly attract and be chemically-bound with water-molecules (ie., barium oxide combines with water to form barium hydroxide). This chemical reaction in itself is a heat-generating process, which along with localized engine-exhaust heating will cause moisture condensation. But because these metallic-ion salts attract water-molecules, everything else being equal (same altitude, exhaust temperatures, same ambient humidity and pressure and air temp. etc.) a plane dispersing salts in it's engine exhaust will create more visible, long-lasting vapor-trails than one that doesn't.

The evidence of barium and metal-ion salts in atmosphere and precipitation samples sure suggests there may be something to the chemtrail phenomena beyond mistaking contrails -- as does the peculiar circumstantial evidence of 2005 legislation exempting weather-modification from congressional/governmental oversight or civil liability. This is the same sinister and dangerous slippery-slope whereby Congress has granted pharmaceuticals exemption from liability for vaccination damages, or Bremer authorizing western oil company execs exemption from oil company environmental damage or human/civil rights violations in Iraq.

In addition to global-warming mediation through chemtrail dispersing barium and ion-salts in the upper atmosphere, speculation re: dispersal of sub-micron metallic-salt particles may be intended for wholesale modification of the upper atmosphere's electromagnetic properties as by increasing its conductivity -- with a range of applications from exploiting and controlling or enhancing radio communication, radar and imaging applications, creating atmosphere-molecular focused-lens effects for 'beam' type weapons (or directed-energy transmissions for commercial or scientific-research purposes), as well as upper-atmosphere microwave heating re: weather modification, ie. creating or manipulating storms/hurricans, rainfall and drought. Some more extreme speculation concerns potential for measuring or interacting with deep geologic processes as with earthquakes and volcanoes. The US Military's own statements indicate keen interest in exploiting weather warfare and geological manipulating technology -- Certainly we can see the Pentagon emboldened by neocon excesses adopting an Anything Goes rationale on behalf of American superiority and exceptionalism -- plenty cause to be guardedly suspicious as well as skeptical about what the criminal PTB are willing to do in the name of American citizens.

I remain deeply suspicious about what chemtrails really are.
The below photograph sequence taken in Albuquerque 1999 over 2-3 hours shows what is evidently a dense overcast-cloud mass evolving around the nucleus of a dozen or more aircraft vapor trails -- the clouds don't 'blow-in' and the original contrails don't dissipate as one would expect 'ordinary' vapor trails to. And yet, this odd situation CAN be explained if one posits ionic-metal salts were discharged that caused moisture to condense. How else to explain this? These vapor-trails may be anywhere from 15,000 to 30,000 feet -- but the lack of dispersion indicates wind-speeds well-below what would be expected at the higher elevation with its low-pressure and -30 degree F temp. (required for 'ordinary' contrails to form). In noting that clouds form at the same altitude as the trails, indeed seeming to be 'connected', it doesn't seem possible that moisture 'fell' from a greater altitude or that a low-pressure/lower-temperature front blew-in.

Useful link/chart to guage altitude and wind-speed/temperature gradients:
http://www.angelfire.com/mn/kanuck/Altitude.html
Following is a VERY intriguing atmospheric research study that shows unexplained concentrations of submicron metallic ion salt particles in upper atmosphere precipitation samples -- which would have specific advantages for ohmic heating linked to projects associated with the Dept. of Defense's HAARP facility in Alaska.
Starman
******

http://www.carnicom.com/conduct2.htm
CONDUCTIVITY:
The Air, The Water, and The Land
Clifford E Carnicom
April 15, 2005

A rainfall laboratory test recently received from a rural location in the midwestern United States has refocused attention on the electrolytic, ionic and conductive properties of environmental samples in connection with the aerosol operations. These "interesting characteristics" of solids in our atmosphere have a more direct and down to earth impact as their nature is better understood. This is nothing less than the changing of the air, the water and the soil of this planet. All life is eventually to be affected as it continues.

A laboratory report has been received that documents unusually high levels of calcium and potassium within a rain sample.1 Previous work has demonstrated unexpected levels of barium and magnesium. The continuous presence of easily ionizable salts at higher concentrations within atmospheric samples has many ramifications upon the environment. A brief introduction to the severe health impact of this category of particulates has also been made on this site. Current work is now dedicated to the impact that these materials are having upon not only upon the atmosphere, but upon the water and soil as well. All inhabitants of this planet will eventually confront, voluntarily or not, the consequences of the actions that are being allowed to degrade the viability and habitability of our home.

The burden of testing for the problems underway does not fall upon any private citizen, as the resources are not available to support it. Nevertheless, testing and analysis does continue in whatever way is possible. Accountability must eventually fall to those public servants and agencies entrusted with protection of the general welfare and environment. It should not be assumed that there is infinite time available to ponder the strategies of improvement and the solutions for remedy. We shall all bear the final price for any condonement of what has been allowed to pass.

Now, for the more immediate particulars:

A series of conductivity tests have been conducted with recent heavy snowfall samples collected in New Mexico and Arizona. Conductivity is a means to measure the ionic concentration within a solution. These tests have been performed with the use of a calibrated conductivity meter in conjunction with calibrated seawater solutions. A series of electrolysis tests have also been completed with these same samples and calibrated solutions.

These tests demonstrate conclusively the presence of reactive metal hydroxides (salts) in concentrations sufficient to induce visible electrolysis in all recent snowfall samples encountered2.

Precipitates result if reactive electrodes are used; air filtration tests have produced these same results in even more dramatic fashion from the solids that have been collected. Highly significant electrolytic reactions occur in the case when the solid materials from the atmosphere are concentrated and then placed into solution. Rainfall is expected to be one of the purest forms of water available, especially in the rural and high mountain sites that have been visited. Rainfall from such "clean" environments is not expected to support electrolysis is any significant fashion3, and conductivity is expected to be on the order of 4-10uS4. Current conductivity readings are in the range of approximately 15 to 25uS. These values may not appear to be extraordinarily large, however any increase in salt content, especially with the use of remote samples, will need to be considered with respect to the cumulative effect upon the land. These results do indicate an increase in conductivity on the order of 2-3 times, and the effects of increased salinity on plant life will merit further discussion.

Beyond the indicated increase in conductivity levels of sampled precipitation, there are two additional important results from the current study. The first is the ability to make an analytic estimate of the concentration of ionic salts within the regional atmosphere. The results do appear to be potentially significant from an air quality perspective and with respect to the enforcement (or lack thereof) of existing standards. The second is the introduction of the principle of "ohmic heating", which in this case allows for increased conductivity of the atmosphere as a result of an introduced current.

First, with respect to estimated concentrations of ionic salt forms in the atmosphere, the principle is as follows. The methods demonstrate that our focus is upon reactive metal hydroxide forms (barium hydroxide, for example). Conductivity is proportional to ionic concentration. Although a conductivity meter is especially useful over a wide range of concentrations, special care is required when dealing with the weak saline forms of precipitation as they now exist. It has been found that current flow as measured by a sensitive ammeter (uamps) appears to be useful in assessing the conductivity of the weak saline solution. The results have been confirmed and duplicated with the use of the calibrated conductivity meter. The use of on ohm meter to measure resistance is found from both experience and from the literature to not be reliable without much caution, due to complications of heating and/or polarization. Weak saline solutions appear to have their own interesting characteristics with respect to introduced currents, and this topic will come to the forefront when ohmic heating is discussed.

A series of weak sea saltwater solutions have been carefully prepared for use in calibrating both the conductivity meter and the ammeter. These solutions are in strengths of 0.56%, 1.51% and 3.01% respectively. Many tests have also been completed with refined water samples as well as seawater equivalents. Conductivity is proportional to concentration levels, especially as it has been bracketed with a variety of solutions in the range of expected measurements. Measurements currently estimate the saline concentration of the precipitation samples at approximately 0.041%. Salt concentrations in any amount are extremely influential to conductivity.

Assuming an equivalency in density of the precipitation salts to sea salts, this results in an expected concentration level of approximately 15 milligrams per liter. For comparison purposes, rainwater in Poker Flats, Alaska is reported as approximately 1mg/liter for all dissolved ions; the contribution from reactive metal compounds is a small fraction of that total. Highly polluted rain over Los Angeles CA is reported at approximately 4mg/liter, with approximately 1mg/liter composed of the reactive metals.5 Simulated rainfall samples report concentration levels of approximately 4 and 21 mg/liter respectively, presumed to reflect reasonably clean and polluted samples respectively6. In all cases cited, the contribution from reactive metal ions is quite small relative to the whole, and sulfate, nitrate and chloride ions are the largest contributors to the pollutants. Testing here indicates the composition of the precipitate pollutants may be biased toward the reactive metal ion concentrations.

The next objective is to translate the measured and estimated concentration level to an equivalent density, or particulate count, within the atmosphere. This method is based upon saturation levels for moisture within the atmosphere. Air at a given temperature can only hold so much water.
. . .
The estimates show that at ground levels and temperatures it is quite possible that the EPA air quality standards for particulate matter are no longer being met. This determination will also depend on the size of the particles in question, as EPA standards vary according to size (PM2.5 and PM10 respectively). All analyses indicate that the size of the aerosols under examination are sub-micron, and if so, this makes the problem more acute. Air quality standards for comparison to various scenarios are available9 to examine the relationship that has been developed. Unfortunately, the failures of United States government agencies now require the independent audit of EPA data and presentation. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is especially culpable in this regard, and the enforcement of existing standards is a serious topic of controversy.

Finally, let us introduce the subject of ohmic heating. The behavior of electric currents within weak saline solutions has many points of interest. During the testing for this report, it was observed that the conductivity of weak saline solutions noticeably increased over time when these solutions were subjected to a weak electric current. It appears that the most likely source of this conductivity is a phenomenon known as ohmic heating. In plasma physics, ohmic heating is the energy imparted to charged particles as they respond to an electric field and make collisions with other particles. A classic definition would be the heating that results from the flow of current through a medium with electrical resistance. Please recall the difficulty of using an ohmmeter to measure conductivity in a solution; this difficulty was realized in the trials of this report.

Metals are known to increase their resistance with the introduction of an electric current. As the metal becomes hotter, resistance increases and conductivity decreases. Salt water and plasmas are quite interesting in that the opposite effect occurs. The conductivity of salt water increases when temperature increases. The same effect occurs within a plasma; an increase in temperature will result in a decrease of the resistance.10, i.e, the conductivity increases. Introduction of an electric current into the plasma, or salt water for that matter, will increase the temperature and therefore the conductivity will also increase. This is in opposition to our normal experience with metals and conductors.

In the past, conductivity studies have focused on the ability of the reactive metals to lose ions through the photoionization process. This remains a highly significant aspect of the aerosol research.

The importance of this study is that a second factor has now been introduced into the conductivity equation, and that is the introduction of electric currrent itself into the plasma state. This research, through direct observation and analysis, has inadvertently turned attention once again to the HAARP facility, where ohmic heating is stated within the Eastlund patent to be a direct contributor to atmospheric conductivity increase. All evidence indicates that this plasma is saline based, which further propagates the hypothesis of increased conductivity in the atmosphere with the introduction of electric current, in addition to that provided by photoionization.

A future presentation will examine the changes in the conductivity of our soil, in addition to that of our air and water.
**
Related:
Reference to Barium in the <http://www.bariumblues.com/eastlund_%20patent.htm> HAARP patent <http://www.bariumblues.com/haarp_patent.htm>report:
"It has also been proposed to release large clouds of barium in the magnetosphere so that photo ionization will increase the cold plasma density, thereby producing electron precipitation through enhanced whistler-mode interaction."
HAARP, Chemtrails, and New War Technologies <haarp_dangers.htm>
US HAARP Weapon Development Concerns Russian Duma <http://www.rense.com/general28/deathray.htm>About HAARP <haarp1.htm>
Eastlund HAARP Patent <http://www.bariumblues.com/haarp_patent.htm>Electromagnetic Radiation <http://eastlundscience.com/currentd.html>Eastlund Scientific Enterprises Corporation <http://eastlundscience.com/aboutcompany.html> "completed a contract with the European Space Agency to review the weather modification potential of the HAARP facility in Alaska and to perform numerical simulations of tornado suppression with high power electromagnetic radiation produced with Solar Power Satellites." There is growing evidence that we are swimming in the stuff. So lets review some facts about a substance we may be eating, drinking and breathing in large quantities.

Leading chemtrail researcher Clifford Carnicom has completed a series of impressive reports citing evidence that our atmosphere is now saturated with barium compounds as a result of the military's on-going weather and atmospheric modification projects. The presence of metallic alkaline salts in rainfall samples collected nationwide indicates that the atmospheric pH is being rapidly modified -- most likely by barium.

Barium facilitates weather mod projects because it can create cloud formations at extremely low humidity, when natural clouds cannot form. Barium oxide (a salt) is a desiccant (drying agent) and can be used by the military to de-humidify clouds and dry up unwanted precipitation. Have your skin, mucus membranes and eyes been very dry lately?

Barium occurs naturally in two primary forms, barium carbonate and barium sulfate. Both of these metallic substances are mined. Many compounds of barium can be developed in a chemical lab, such as barium titanate, a combination of barium, titanium and oxygen. Radioactive barium is a uranium fission product produced when the nucleus of a U-235 atom is hit by a neutron.

We know that America's military-industrial complex has been spewing various forms of barium into our atmosphere for years. The University of Alaska has propelled barium into space in order to study the earth's magnetic field lines. The military used barium salts over enemy territory in Libya, Panama and Iraq, reportedly to make the population sick. A recent report from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base confirms that the Air Force has been spraying barium titanate across the United States to facilitate advanced radar studies.

Chemical handbooks state that barium is highly toxic to human beings. The officially “safe” levels of barium in the environment are quite low, on the order of 1-2 parts per million. The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry warns that humans who ingest high levels of barium can develop problems with the heart, stomach, liver, kidneys, spleen and other organs. It also confirms that ingesting high levels of water soluble barium compounds can cause:
difficulties in breathing
changes in heart rhythm
increased blood pressure
stomach irritation
brain swelling
muscle weakness
Soluble salts of barium can stimulate all muscles of the body, producing contractions of the skeletal muscles and spasms of the smooth muscles of blood vessels, bronchi, stomach and intestines. These salts can radically increase the force of the heartbeat, a potentially lethal situation for the elderly and the chronically ill. In toxic doses, these salts can cause high blood pressure, asthmatic attacks, burning sensation in the stomach, nausea, vomiting and convulsions. One chemical directory advises that barium be kept out of the reach of children. Great stuff to be spraying over the civilian population of our nation, is it not?

When barium reacts with water to form barium hydroxide, as it would in the moist atmosphere, it liberates much heat. This could explain why, on heavy spray days in warm weather, people complain about the abnormal, almost microwave-type heat they feel. If our benevolent government really cared about global warming, would it spray the atmosphere with heat-generating compounds? Is the government's secret chemtrail aerosol project being used to increase atmospheric heat in order to perpetuate the global warming crisis for the cash cow that it is?

One troubling question not yet answered is: Would the military dare spray us with the radioactive form of barium? If so, it would not be the first time our government has deliberately exposed hapless Americans to radioactive materials which later produce illness and death for countless unsuspecting victims.

For more information go to http://www.carnicom.com/contrails.htm. Re: Chemtrail

The dispersal method is not the problem. If a passenger jet, which is a frequently inspected machine, can be covertly modified to disperse chemicals into its engine exhaust so can a KC-135 Stratotanker or an Evergreen Supertanker sitting in a restricted hangar.

Chemtrails/persistent contrails are huge. They are tens if not hundreds of kilometers in length and have substantial cross sections. To disperse any chemical, even at very low concentrations, into that kind of volume must represent a lot of mass for an aircraft to carry.

To get an idea of the levels of mass being discussed, consider the very interesting article Starman quoted above about dissolved pollutants in rainwater. Though rainwater contamination would not seem like a likely purpose for chemtrails (and I know that was not Skyman's point of posting the article either), it provided me with some hard numbers that I think are still useful in demonstrating my point about the scope.

I first made a baseline of the mass of material needed to reach 1mg of contamination per liter of rain water in 1cm of rainfall over a 1km sq. I figured that the total volume of the rain water would be 10,000,000l from 1,000,000m sq. x .01m is 10,000m cu and multiplied by 1,000 for the number of liters in a cubic meter. 10,000,000mg is 10kg. Granted, that's not a lot, but this is a pretty limited baseline.

To put enough material in the air to achieve even something as modest as 2mg of contaminants per liter of rain water over 400 square kilometers in just over an inch of rainfall (3cm) at a ratio of 50% material dispersed to rain water contamination (which still seems a bit optimistic to me) would require 48,000kg of material.

The problem to me, is how to get all that mass up into the air. Supertankers operating out of restricted areas of military air bases, supported by small crews gagged by DoD classification and motivated by believing they are somehow saving the world is a much easier secret to keep than any alternative system I can think of using commercial passenger airliners.
