To whom it may concern,

It is with some dismay that I see that the National Weather "Service" has produced yet another hurricane. While I'm well aware that work on hurricane Episilon started well before the end of the official hurricane season, it shows a lack of attention to deadlines that diminishes the overall quality of the Weather Service.

Quite frankly, I'm not really sure why, with all of the hurricane projects undertaken this year, there is a need for such a long season. With the costs associated with each hurricane so high, it is a wonder that the season isn't shortened by a month or more. Certainly, hurricane projects spanning the busy Thanksgiving holiday are really not needed, give that a simple rainstorm can have a great an impact, and I question the wisdom of hurricane events when winter storm planning is clearly the best use of weather service resources at this time of the year.

My tax dollars support this government service, and I expect accountability, not excuses. Quite frankly, the 2005 hurricane season, while a success in quantity for the Service, was hardly a success in terms of innovation. To launch projects in and around the Gulf, over and over, while ignoring the more challenging northeast is a sign of laziness, as far as I'm concerned. Sure, a northeast project requires more planning and resources, but a good amount of my tax dollars go toward the weather service, and I expect to see results.

The 2006 season is upon us. I can assure you that I have high expectations of the Weather Service, and I, like other taxpayers, will be watching the actions of the Weather Service closely.

(Signed)
Sven Golly, Esq.
632 Broadway
18th Floor
New York, NY 10011
