Just looking at that photo makes my neck ache. I might believe it if their arms were very long, so they could walk on their hands and legs without all that (agonizing, I would think) pressure on their lower back. Also, their poor wrists! Just try bending them backward like that, plus putting all that weight on them every time you want to walk.

And, that family would have to keep their neck stretched backward, again very painfully, otherwise they'd be walking and staring at their own genitals.

In the absence of physical abnormalities that would make such contortions more comfortable than walking upright, of which the photo shows no evidence, I would have to say this article is a plant. Either that, or we're talking about a family of sado-masochists who loooove pain.

Gee, Jeff, you think it might be a hoax?

Curious. As a child I used to climb stairs on all fours. I sometimes continue to do so if I'm alone, the stairs are clean, and I've nothing to carry. It just feels more natural, and I can climb *way* fast that way. My posture is generally with my body held not quite parallel to the incline of the stairs, with a great deal of flexion in the hips. I'm pushing forward with my legs, while supporting my weight with my arms, more or less, rather than doing both jobs with the legs.

That being said, the posture of the people in the picture looks painful, especially having to hold the head so far back like that. I can't imagine that that would be an efficient or comfortable method of getting about.

-Sepka the Space Weasel
