Pro life nation: What we can expect:

From the NYT, a truly appalling look at what we can look forward to if the present trends here (as in South Dakota and Miss. continue) Abortion police state. Long article go here for full read. Not for the weak stomachs. www.nytimes.com/2006/04/0...ref=slogin
In this new movement toward criminalization, El Salvador is in the vanguard. The array of exceptions that tend to exist even in countries where abortion is circumscribed — rape, incest, fetal malformation, life of the mother — don't apply in El Salvador. They were rejected in the late 1990's, in a period after the country's long civil war ended. The country's penal system was revamped and its constitution was amended. Abortion is now absolutely forbidden in every possible circumstance. No exceptions.

There are other countries in the world that, like El Salvador, completely ban abortion, including Malta, Chile and Colombia. El Salvador, however, has not only a total ban on abortion but also an active law-enforcement apparatus — the police, investigators, medical spies, forensic vagina inspectors and a special division of the prosecutor's office responsible for Crimes Against Minors and Women, a unit charged with capturing, trying and incarcerating an unusual kind of criminal. Like the woman I was waiting to meet

I could barely read that article. How does their society benefit from putting a mom with 3 children in prison for having an abortion? How does their society benefit from forcing women to the point of death or infertility over ectopic pregnancies? When did an ectopic pregnancy gain more rights than it's host, a living, breathing woman? I can scarcely bear where this is all going; and please, no howling from the side that says "It won't go that far here". On a state-by-state basis, it will. How can anyone that buys into this mentality honestly say they love and care for their female family members?
The worst of the article to me were the women willingly being "gatekeepers" on other women: judges, doctors, prosecutors that are women sending other women off to prison, or death, or acting as "vaginal inspectors". What about their sisters? Their daughters? Will they look without mercy on their kin as they send family away?

I look for any form of birth control to be outlawed eventually, even here in the US, if the Supremes find a way to undermine Roe. Did anyone notice how politicized the Vatican's agenda became this past election? It's not just the Jewish "neo-cons", or the Pat Robertson Christians, or the Moonie Christians putting their mark on American politics. With four of the ultra-conservatives on the Supreme Court being ultra-Catholics, I expect to see the footprint of the Vatican stamped on our politics for decades to come.

For example:

www.newsmax.com/archives/...0532.shtml
Priests Should Refuse Communion to Kerry, Leading Catholic Says

www.lifesite.net/ldn/2005...51805.html
Pope Makes Bishop of Priest Who Said He’d Deny Communion to Pro-Abortion Politicians

www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/eu...can.kerry/
VATICAN CITY (CNN) -- Just hours before Sen.
