FAA: no shots fired

Oh My God.

This is TOO unbelieveable -- a readymade excuse to gain another day, waiting for the situation to 'resolve itself'?

If the FAA, which you would sure EXPECT to have acurate info, is correct, the implications are too horrible for words. CNN and FOX, anyway, has been making much of sniper-shots interfering with evacs, and reporters have commented on, and we've seen, a reduction in air-flights today, whether from high-winds or?

Is anyone realistically expecting the waters to recede on their own? Again (and again and again and again), they need at least 500 busses out a day to put a dent in this tragedy. What is so hard to grasp that they still don't get it -- unless it's being impeded on-purpose? People need to keep asking these critical questions -- why no boats or trucks? Cuz all of Louisianna's high-water equipment is in Iraq!?
Damn ...

To a huge extent, this tragedy is aggrvated by this nation's lack of Universal Health care, as hospitals don't want to accept indigent refugees needing medical treatment. What a fucking indictment of a once-proud, vigorous nation.
Starman

Fed agencies (Coast Guard, Army) are not known to duck and run for cover in the face of domestic opposition, especially when it compromises the mission. That is unless the commander directs that it be so.

Chertoff.

Mission not to be accomplished, by order of the CO.

no shots?

Postby robertdreed » Fri Sep 02, 2005 1:30 am

That needs to be followed up on. Somewhere in the hierarchal bueaucratic chain- in the government or the media- something was fed into the system that had no business being there.

And how about this bit of elemental wisdom from George "Skull and Bones" W. Bush:

{i]“It’s devastating. It’s got to be doubly devastating on the ground.”

Yeah, that's George W. Bush, bestriding the Earth, like a colossus.

That's either the limit of his empathetic and compassionate abilities, which is really bad.

Or he's actively laughing at his victims, who include any ordinary citizen who stilll believe in him, which is worse.

"What keeps a man in bondage?"

Edited by: robertdreed at: 9/1/05 11:41 pm

They are building the case of urban violence and civil unrest and it'll be a prophecy which will soon become reality if they keep feeding the information.

I got the impression from reading DU that the people are ready to storm the Bastille. We have seen much outrage against the Bush administration, but the last couple of days are even more extreme, the people have had enough.

Let's throw in my favorite quote (used a number of times before)

Quote:

The Third Option is not to have peace in the world, and not to have a full-scale world war. WoW -- Helluva comment, DrDeBugDU -- Very chilly.

Some comments below that directly relate to this, from an excellant DKOS thread I've been posting pieces around that speak to and of my tumbled thoughts better than I can right now.
God, I'm HOPING we can change the evil Bush Inc. path of planned chaos.
Starman

From: cindysheehan.dailykos.com...1040/36581

This is not America
This is HELL.
This is DC politics amok.
This is utter DC disconnectedness squared.
This is proof that DC pols don't have a clue about Public Service. This is proof that this is a government of, by & for Multinational Corporations. This is about American Citizens without representation in Our Government. We have no representation.
We are ALL the People of NOLA on the dark streets. We Are All without food & water for going on 5 days. We Are ALL THOSE PEOPLE!
They are Us.
I am a well fed, comfortable in a dry house Starving Dehydrating Dying American on the desolate streets of NOLA.
I am drained. Dear God, take me now. What has become of us?
The concept of war is outdated. Dalai Lama
by x on

maybe this is an exemplary case
establishing a new norm of governmental irresponsibility. and just like when Operation Iraqi Liberation established the doctrine of pre-emptive war, the focus of the administration is on obfuscating the terrible edge of what is occurring, so as not to provoke a contrary response. help is 'on the way,' while the apocalyptic nature of the situation does its work of establishing the new norm of lowered expectation.
There ought to be a science of discontent.
by dreamsign

There's a word nobody's using and it's easy to understand why. It sure looks like the administration 'deliberately' dragged it's feet, given the two day advance warning but what did they or anyone else stand to gain by doing so?
Record prices at the pump? Is anyone that callous?
It will be slow going putting the oil rigs back into operation but the human toll...there's just no excuse, or rational explanation...unless the administration is 'suddenly' concerned about adding to the deficit.
Superb diary!
Parties divide, movements unite.
by Gegner

it's done
The federal response to this situation has been catastrophic - the authorities were completely paralyzed during the most critical hours of this disaster. There has never been such a failure of leadership in a time of crisis - not once in our nation's history has this happened.
There is no excuse for this kind of a systematic collapse in authority, organization, or leadership. Not only was the possibility of this event a virtual gauarantee that everyone knew of beforehand, but we also KNEW that this particular storm was indeed the worst-case scenario before it even made landfall.
This is absolutely unforgivable. If there is not a moment of accountability, if heads do not roll in Washington and elsewhere for this, then I say we take a lesson from the people of New Orleans and take matters into our own hands instead of waiting for the bureacracy's bullshit to save us.
by Richard Carlucci

sic transit gloria mundi
Frankly, I don't think this entire country can be brought back to, say, the level it enjoyed in the 90s no more than Russia could return to its former stature once the slide had begun.
Too little, too late.
This rat left the sinking ship earlier this year and never felt so preescient.
