Industrial Plants in Lake Charles now on generators

Postby GDN01 » Sun Oct 02, 2005 2:39 am

In the Lake Charles, La. area, there are many petro-chemical plants. While they didn't sustain much damage during Hurricane Rita, they were all shut down due to having no electricity. My sister's husband is a chemist in one of the plants and they have just this weekend called him back to work. He was one of the last ground crews to be evacuated, and the first to be called back.

My sister sent an email saying the plants are running on generators, and her husband's lab has one generator that holds 1200 gallons of gasoline, and uses 100 gallons per hour. That is just for his lab. I can't imagine what it is taking to operate the entire plant, and all the plants in the area.

There is still no electricity in the city of Lake Charles and no idea when it will return.
