ok... you know these pics have been photoshopped... don't you?

The dogs flying in the air have no shadows.

Yes, there are starving dogs and livestock, and it is horrific. But these pics appear to be fake.

hey DB!

I downloaded and zoomed in on the 4 pics, and the 1st and 3rd show definite signs of being tampered with - the dogs in the air have pixels missing or smudging - at least in my non-professional opinion!

I don't see this on the 2nd and 4th pic. Not sure what to make of it... Why doctor some pics so blatantly if there are legit pics to post?

Thumper - what is the source for these pics?

Compression!!!

The internet has too many 'analysis' of images whereby people simply blow up compression artifacts and claim they prove image tampering/ruins on mars etc! I often wonder whether these people have ever taken a photo, used photoshop or converted a photo to jpg for the web?...

Pretty harsh photos anyway... poor creatures.

I don't see any reason to suspect they've been faked tho. And anyway if the army/government/whoever really needed to manufacture some photos of dogs fighting a bull for some arcane reason it'd probably be easier to do it for real.

I have no comment on the conversation, only the pictures.

In my semi-professional opinion and analysis, I believe these photos to be genuine.
Reasons:
* immaculate matching of shadows both in the pics and on the animal bodies.
* perfect focus matching for all foreground and background objects
* all colors consistent in each scene
* I see no signs of tampering (smoothing, blending, etc), other than the pics were saved in Adobe. That's not unusual, as Adobe can import directly from a camera and many people use the feature.
The only possible suspect is in the first pic, where the doggie's back "knee" appears to be missing 4 pixels.. but it's right in sync with the like-colored background and often happens with .jpg compression.

If this was faked, the faker has god-like chopping skills.

It's amazing how high that little doggie can leap if you've never seen it before. The behavior is totally natural; dogs love beef and instinctively know how to hunt to survive.

(one personal credential)

Edited by: ZeroHaven at: 10/2/05 9:09 am

I still believe the 1st and 3rd photo's have been altered. That isn't a shadow on the cow's backside, it is the color of his hide - it remains constant even when there is no dog flying over him.

For what it's worth -- I think these photos are genuine.
The third photo shows what looks to me like the larger bulldog having just been shook off from his hammerlock bite on the bull's lip, and is flying to through the air on the cow's rightside -- so any shadow would be on the ground, obscured by the cow's body -- except what might be a tiny forward edge of the dog's muzzle or head can be seen on the ground next to the cow's chest.

I'm really surprised, tho, by the cow's seeming ability to kill or severely injure the dogs -- unless they were shot by the cameraman or crew as a compassionate act. Could the cow have stunned and then kicked the dog's head sufficient to cause the amount of bleeding shown on the roadway edge?

BTW: In the one image, what is the object alongside the tail -- could it be the cow's rectum ripped out?

I don't think the Astrodome or Convention center were quite as brutal as these images suggest -- certainly not total dog-eat-dog anarchy. I've heard there was quite a lot of organized sharing of available resources, although there was much too little and some more ruthless thugs did exploit and commit violence and mayhem -- some of which was harshly dealt with by semi-organized crowds. That's not to say conditions WERE horrible. How could FEMA and the Feds et al. NOT know that desperate crowds tend to do desperate things? Gad dammit-- They Knew! It's the hyper militant-police attitude of us vs. 'them' writ large. 'See, they're ANIMALS.'
Starman

Re: backside = wrongside

GDN01 - just to kill this point, take a good look at picture 3

look at the cow's shadow in relation to the cow.. now, slowly look up the CHEST of the cow. look at the grass along it's chest, and you see the shadow of the ear of the flying dog.

Like I said, godlike skills and attention to detail would have made someone add that shadow.. unless you're claiming that the dogs are real and the cow has been added later.

Mentally most people with average depth perception would calculate the dog's shadow to be a bit further to the right (no compensation for ground slope).. but as physics has it, it appears on the ground behind the cow's body just like it should...
and again no visual clue of tampering.
If anyone thought the shadow should be on the cow's back you may want to practice some depth-perception excercises. that's sincere advice.

------
NOW I will comment on this premise. These pictures DO reflect the situation in the Astrodome.. but not in the way you've all been talking about it. (dog eat dog does not equal dog attack cow and lose)

A small group of "little guys" try to attack the "big guys" in charge. They put up a hell of a struggle trying to get attention, trying to get some food in their bellies.
In the end they are defeated.

Not all were defeated, not all died, but if you look at it as a struggle for survival and the defeat of two little ones... well then shit yeah it fits.

I didn't mean it in a negative sense on the part of the survivors. I'm just saying that's how the elites WANT US to act, especially when they withold our basic necessities for survival. How else should people act without food or water for five days?
