again

Postby AnnaLivia » Mon Jun 12, 2006 4:52 pm

(Sorry I disappeared. My mom is doing better after her sudden attack and surgery, resting now. Want to go back to the RA report that baio posted, soon, to touch on an important point there.)

Wondering aloud: do many males here avoid these discussions? Is that my imagination? Or because I get to read few threads, I’ve missed their intense concern? Don’t have any official tally, but seems to me it’s always the women who dare tackle these horrors…

We’ve established the immense difficulty of determining “fitting justice” in the RA cases, since perps are frequently survivors, too, so coercion exists there and demands we be cautious. But here’s another case of just plain scum being INVITED to do it again and again.

(mother, don’t even read this. Just skip it and give your kids an extra hug today.)

www.timesonline.co.uk/art..._1,00.html

What the hell is IN a judge’s head who gives a life sentence… and in the same breath makes it possible/assured the already-repeat offender gets out in a matter of months? What good is law that allows this? It’s as useful as stupidity!

So, ok, homo sapiens sapiens’ true human nature is seen in the fact that these cases cause almost all ordinary people to become outraged. Even the fact that we want limits on punishment even for degenerate scumbags, shows that people are at least as good as bad.

Some days that’s all I have to cling to.

And I truly am more and more convinced by the day that what keeps the people from exerting their (good) will, is the inequitable distribution of wealthpower. Yes, I very honestly believe with all my mind and heart that murdering the idea of having wealthpower giants would have great impact even on THIS issue.

One more time – wishes for healing to all the survivors. I feel I am doing all I can to strike at the root that is cause of most human unhappiness, including this kind. The people will never have their voices back and listened to, while we have wealthpower giants. Never. No matter what else we do.

Ok I am male, and I just realised I have the ez board account from last century or something, so I can reply.

1 "maybe we oughta redefine judge from meaning one person, and replace them each with a panel of five people who didn't go to law school."

Then we may well end up with 5 people who are taking their personal grievances out on whoever is put in front of them...

Like the cop in the arnie movie "True Lies". He says when he finds out about his wife leaving him or whatever, that you get on with yer job and take it out on the next poor schmuck you bust.

(Tho Juries of 12 people seem to work ok sometimes.)

Emotional responses to legal and justice issues are pointless. They may give the person venting them some small relief, for a short while, but how do they address the issue?

2 Capitalism is a rapist mentality

and the threat of rape in jail is always implied when considering incarceration...

Is it right to wish the same thing on someone where their original crime inspires outrage in you.

Believe it or not I understand this pain that victims feel. But what is gonna really solve it.

The original situation that inspired this post...

Suppose this guy had got the maximum sentance for what he did...

... then next week some sick fuck comes along and does something worse, like rape his baby then cut her fingers off or some .. I don't like thinking about this shit...

How do you punish that person more, when the maximum sentence has already been used, shouldn't the victim of the (hypothetical) more violent crime get more consideration because of the additional suffering?

Personally I don't see that one can distinguish between worse crimes when talking about child abuse.

I think that once that line is crossed there should be no distinction of degrees of badness.

But in other crimes, like ordinary assault, there has to be the flexibility to recognise some actions are worse than others, for example, belting an old lady for her pension check may be considered less acceptable or understandable than punching someone in the face cos they called your mother a whore.

Its one thing to have a justifiable emotional reaction to something that causes you pain, but if you cannot stop the emotional response, or at least regulate and control it you'll end up perpetuating the cycle.

Personally, I'm all for shooting the fuckers. And I will do it myself, not get the state to murder on my behalf.

But I am not ignorant or arrogant enough to think that is anything remotely resembling justice. That is me inflicting my will on someone else cause I know what the results of my actions will be and I want those results. (IE protecting my community which gives me personal satisfaction).

That is no different to a child rapist inflicting his will on someone else cause he knows the results of his actions and wants those results.(IE Personal Satisafaction).

I guess when it comes down to it there is no Justice.

Just us.
