More than 350 children are said to have been sexually or physically abused in that period.
~snip~
The latest figures are the result of a two-year trawl through church archives. Last October, at the conclusion of an earlier government inquiry into abuse cases in the Catholic diocese of Ferns, the archbishop's office in Dublin said it was aware of accusations against 67 priests.

The sharp increase revealed in this week's report - which says the true figure is at least 102 priests - is in part due to the inclusion of complaints against members of religious orders working for the diocese in Dublin. The personnel files of 2,800 priests spanning the period 1940to 2006 have been examined. Allegations were said to have been made against 91 priests and suspicions raised about another 11 clerical officials.

"These figures include new allegations and information which have been brought to the attention of the diocese as a result of the independent review, the publication of the Ferns report and ongoing work by the Child Protection Service," the report said. "They do not include allegations and suspicions made regarding priests who carried out ministry within the ambit of their own religious order." Eight local priests have been convicted of abuse. No cases are pending.

the priests seem most interested in their own human rights, at the very least this seems a bit insensitive..

www.ireland.com/newspaper...IESTS.html

Quote:
'Over-strict' abuse guidelines anger priests
Patsy McGarry, Religious Affairs Correspondent

A growing number of priests are protesting about "over-strict" interpretations by bishops of Catholic Church guidelines on dealing with those accused of child sex abuse.

They believe priests are too often stood aside from ministry - and their reputations irreparably damaged - on the basis of flimsy allegations.
~snip~
Meanwhile, the Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, was confronted repeatedly by "angry and very upset" priests on the issue at meetings in the archdiocese in recent weeks. Priests expressed anxiety that they appeared to be without any rights in the context of allegations.

A meeting on the issue at Clonliffe College in Dublin, called by one of the 16 Dublin deaneries for February 19th last, was attended by more than 100 priests. Barrister Ed Morgan told them that in the bishops' document on child protection, "there is little to indicate that the rights of the accused have been materially and substantially accommodated".

Mr Morgan said: "It is perhaps regrettable that the only reference to human rights [in the document] is child specific."
~snip~
Writing in the current issue of the Furrow magazine, Fr Connolly said: "The suspicion is that in the past, victims [of clerical sex abuse] were sacrificed on the institutional altar, and now it is the turn of accused clerics, even those who vehemently assert their innocence, and that policies can have as much to do with episcopal protection as child protection."

He warned that "just as the [sex abuse] scandals have seriously damaged trust between priests and people, the danger now is that the bond of trust between priest and bishop will become likewise undermined".

so if we have 102 priests with accusations against them out of 2,800 priests examined that is quite a high percentage. Not sure if one can then project this figure onto the whole population....

Bet they never get the #1 satanist and his monstrous helpers. That would be a Stan Fortune, sadistic warlock who loved destroying innocence. When a satanist gets control of the seminary, the good priests get sent packing. I know I'm a broken record, but this is the counterfeit church. May God have mercy on the kids those _______s have harmed.
