Australian FMSF board member sexually abused a client

Postby biaothanatoi » Fri Sep 15, 2006 3:56 am

I was a little startled to find that Robb Stanley, a long-standing member of Professional Advisory Board of the Australian False Memory Foundation, was de-registered in 2000 for "infamous conduct" with a client:

Quote:
(a) From in or about January 1994, during the course of his professional relationship with Ms M, and in the context of professional consultations, he engaged in acts of physical intimacy with Ms M, including hugging and kissing.

(b) From in or about April 1994, he had a sexual relationship with Ms M which involved acts of sexual intercourse and physical intimacy.

(c) From in or about January 1994, he failed to terminate the professional relationship when the fact or possibility of sexual, romantic or emotional attractions between himself and Ms M became apparent.

(d) To the extent that these matters took place after the termination of that relationship, they occurred within an inadequate period of time thereafter.

He sought to be re-registered in 2003, and his application included a statement of "good conduct" from Graham Burrows, the head of the AFMA Professional Advisory Board.

Thank God, he was turned down. His application included instances of "false memories" all of his own, such as:

“[In August 1994] she let herself into my room in the middle of the night ... I was somewhat intoxicated, woke up to find her in my bed. Once a sexual relationship had started there was very little I could do to retrieve the situation.”

He also alleged that she broke into his office in 2000, "stole key documentation, and forged other materials" to set him up. The board found this an "extraordinary story" which was "significantly inconsistent" with the account provided to them in 2000 by the woman in question, and established via cross-examination. She is now deceased, the board doesn't say how.

The board found that Stanley "continues to exhibit serious flaws of character incompatible with being a registered psychologist." Luckily for him, it's not incompatible with being on the board of the AFMA, or holding the position of senior lecturer at the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne.

Edited by: biaothanatoi at: 9/15/06 1:58 am

Just discovered -

The sexually abusive FMSF psychiatrist in question, Rob Stanley, was co-editor of the "International Handbook of Clinical Hypnosis" with the head of the Australian FMSF, Graham Burrows, in 2001.

Wow. Do you feel safe?
