In addition to losing the computer, prosecutors have now misplaced copies of the images that were supposedly on the harddrive. Also, from the pic it looks like Karr's being represented by Elivra's mom.

So, in the weeks since Karr was captured:

1. It was revealed that he was not a DNA match for the killer.

2. The government of Thailand falls in a(n unrelated) coup.

3. Now, Karr may be a free man since his child porn charges have been dropped. J. Karr can now live as a free man or woman without punishment or the scrutiny of being a registered sex offender.

If Lee Harvey had lived, I wonder where he'd be today...

Too right rain. There's a massive problem with it.

Its interesting that the presumption of innocence is one of the things thats gone the way of the dodo.

Individual people seem to assume guilt in others rather than innocence, so I guess it was there to protect against that tendency in society.

At least that mob in Meringur waited till the bloke had been convicted (5 years probably out in 2 and 1/2) before they burnt his house down.

Being convicted of a crime means that it has been proved to a court beyond any reasonable doubt. Well thats the theory anyway.

There is a tradition stretching back 800 years, or there abouts, where people have (in Common law nations, ironically some of the oldest common law nations are the coalition of the willing) tried to limit the arbitary power of the state.

To allow the systems of power to be more than just a conquerors enforcement machine. Thats what all the fuss about everything to do with the war on terra is about - the dismantling of centuries of work to limit the arbitary power of the state. To give a framework of rules to follow, I spose thats ultimately another socialist plot...

It is a bit sus that everyone assumes guilt the moment the term child sexual abuse, or anything similar, is mentioned. Karrs a classic case.

He is probably a pedophile. He looks sus for a start, and he was in Thailand so that just confirms it. (WTF are you serious Joe?)

No.

That would be my inclination to - say thats probably the case,

but

its no where near enough proof of the crime he was charged with for me to say he is guilty of it and deserves to be on an offenders register. So until proven otherwise he is considered innocent. The moment we stop thinking like that we become the same as Bush, Ruddock and all the nazis, fascists and totalitarian power hungry control freak asrseholes throughout history.

Personal proof is one thing, and acting on it is fine, but expecting the state to indulge in your own personal vengence trip is another thing completely.

For gruds sake the prosecution lost the goddamn evidence (if it ever existed). How can you allow a case to procede without evidence. If people don't understand that aspect of habeas corpus perhaps they don't deserve it.

Presumption of innocence? Evidence doesn't go "missing" without a reason.

There was an RA case down here in Melbourne in 2004 where the evidence that went "missing" from the evidence locker was a video tape of men dressed in police uniforms sexually abusing children from a daycare centre that was shut in the mid-1990s after allegations of ritual abuse.

And here we have a dead child beauty queen, a pre-op trannie with an interest in child porn and information about the murder that wasn't released to the public, and when the murder connection falls through, his collection of child pornography disappears as well.

As a result, he'll never take the stand. I wonder what he would say if he did?

This is exactly what I am talking about.

Bio you may well be right, but still with everything you said, you can't expect the state to act without evidence unless you also support the incarceration of David Hicks, and all of the bullshit thats gone with Ruddock's anti terrorism evil, i mean legislation, and the dismantling of the rule of law. They are the limits of the state. Evidence goes and therefore no conviction can be recorded. I would rather that than the falsification of, or absense of evidence required for a trial any day.

"A pre-op trannie" I am glad you said that...

But regardless of how you or I feel, if we want to give up the limits of legal violence in a democracy in favour of the police state, then by all means, whack him on a sex offenders list.

Just don't call for the same thing in Australia in my name.

BTW - Re the day care centre did it have anything to do with Pharan police?

Sometimes evidence goes missing cos it was never there (maybe not in Karr's case. But I am not the one to judge that).

As i said bio you may well be right. But that is beside the point when talking about the limits set for judging a case in a half decent legal system. If there is corruption of that system, please don't use that as an excuse for getting rid of whatever was good about it.

I question just how much "bungling" we are seeing

An interesting except from the Wayne Madsen Report
www.waynemadsenreport.com/

In the Sep. 30/Oct. 1 edition of WMR, it was reported: ". . . WMR has learned of possible connections between GOP lawmakers and former school teacher John Mark Karr, who was arrested in Thailand and deported to the United States after he claimed, falsely, that he killed six-year old Jon Benet Ramsey at her Boulder, Colorado home in 1996. After Boulder prosecutors declined to prosecute Karr for JonBenet's death, he was transferred to Sonoma County, California to face misdemeanor child pornography charges. However, U.S. intelligence source report to WMR that the high degree of interest shown by U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. intelligence officials in Karr -- including having one CIA officer in Bangkok intercede, along with DHS Bangkok attache Ann Hurst, with Thai law enforcement authorities after Karr's arrest -- was due to Karr's knowledge of the involvement of top U.S. government officials in a major pedophilia ring."

He is so obviously ill, it does not take a lot of imagination to believe he could have been a child victim of the same pedo rings JonBenet was. Was he trying, in his roundabout way, to expose just what happened?

Where is the laptop he brought back from Bangkok? I think the Boulder DA has it. What was on it? Will we ever know?
