Hey Bradley,

A few questions and comments:

Quote:

Hamlin asserted that just before his arrest her father and other satanic cult members plotted to kill him because he is a Christian.

Can you give us some idea of your brother's religious background? In case Richard is being manipulated also, I'd be curious to know about this.

And, I hate to say it, but I wonder if Richard is setting himself up to defend himself with an unproveable theory here? Would it not be equally..maybe even far MORE probable that if they plotted to kill him it was for the simple reason that he'd found out about their activities?

Quote:
At this point, Hamlin played a tape recording of Susan Hamlin made by detectives on February 26, 2004 in which she confessed to many of these matters in some detail. At times Susan Hamlin sobbed as she confessed. In between sobs her voice sounded normal and rather low pitched, but then broke into the high pitched voice of a young girl.

I'm quite familiar with an adult suddenly speaking in a child's voice. Happens around here ALL the time. Unless this ENTIRE THING is a scam, it really sounds to me like Susan is DID and at one point believed that her story about abuse was true.

I recommend this article. The evidence that Susan believed that she'd been abused by her Dad seems rock solid to me. Diary entries. Letters.

What about this scenario? Susan and her dad were abusing the kids. She admitted it to Richard. Richard said, "we have to report this." Susan refused. Richard snapped.

In other words, there is a theory of the case available to the prosecutor that is not weakened by proof that Susan had abused the kids in the past.

Keep us up to date.

I believe that most states now require that investigations involving interviews of minors who are reported to have been abused be videotaped. Those videotapes will be very important to the case, I would think. Any investigator worth his/her salt will not ask leading questions.

We had a great band before my drummer-daughter ran away, on her 16th birthday... Years ago, when my then-17-year-old daughter came back home after 1 1/2 years and told me of her stepfather's sexual abuse of her and her foster sister, I took her to aall the places we'd lived since it started (when she was 8!) Most PD's didn't even have a female officer to take the report; it was done by whoever was there. That was 1990.

I found the diary of my youngest daughter in 2000, describing the actions of the next stepfather, and immediately picked her up from school and hauled her down to make a report. In those ten years, there had been tremendous changes. First, the officer specializing in child sexual abuse cases was called in, and she looked like someone's grandmother. Then, as she explained only to me, the interview was under a hidden video camera.

Nothing ever came of either case, though, because there was no corroborating witness. In the first case, my foster daughter could have witnessed, but she was In Love with my ex-husband and had his child soon after I left with my other two children (she had just turned 18.) She lived with us since she was 11. I was the kind mother she didn't have before (and completely bamboozled by what was going on behind my back.)

If anyone has any suggestions... if only I could get that former foster daughter to talk to me or answer my emails (I found her; she's still playing sax in a band in Portland, OR.) My ex is raising that baby boy, who's now 16. --MaryK

Hi. Thanks for mentioning that "Christian" quote. It was the only line that bothered me in Virginia's article. I don't recall Richard saying that, and it puts too much emphasis on something that's pretty irrelevant. Richard played a tape of Susan's confession to the police. On that tape Susan says something about Richard being a "trophy Christian" but, ultimately, it was without a doubt, Richard's harassment of Sid Siemer that brought about the retaliation, if that's what it was. Richard was really egging Sid on. Sid didn't need cult involvement to have motive for Richard's removal. I definitely believe Susan was abused, and therefore, whether Richard ever hit her or not--I believe she is, at least in part, presently lying.

Re Child Molestation

I do not want to interfere with the other discussions on this important thread, but I have to ask am I wrong to see this specific post as quite disturbing?

Quote:
We had a great band before my drummer-daughter ran away, on her 16th birthday... yeah, let's not make the thread about marykmusic, but mary....I'd get YOURSELF into therapy first. That's a lot of crap to deal with and if you have continued to have these men in your life there's some issues to be dealt with for sure. A good therapist can help you with next steps..and this probably isn't a good place to deal with all that. I recommend this strongly. Get a therapist familiar with sexual abuse issues.
