polk trial - weirdness continues

Postby mxmendo » Thu May 18, 2006 4:28 pm

there is really a media circus atmosphere about this one, everyone seems amazed that she is pursuing a self-defense strategy rather than insanity.

And then the defendant, who claimed in her opening statement to be psychic, told the jury she predicted the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, thwarted a papal assassination and heard her husband, whom she has claimed was an Israeli intelligence agent, discuss the death of San Francisco Mayor George Moscone weeks before his assassination in 1978.

She also described having a vision of former Secretary of State Colin Powell "as the anti-Christ marching off to Armageddon."

....

Polk read from several letters she'd written over the years, including one she said she wrote in March 2001 and tucked away in a safe in case her husband ever killed her.

In them, Polk documented what she called her husband's abuse and described how he once drugged her and prompted flashbacks that led her to remember he had sexually abused her under the guise of psychotherapy.

But she never told anyone about it early in the relationship because, she said, "I thought telling someone would precipitate me getting killed" and she remained in the marriage because "I kept thinking I could fix it."

But her husband "wanted someone he really could control and dominate," she said.

"He wanted a doll. No resistance was tolerable for him. No individuality. There was nothing left for me," she said, crying. "It was like having my life hijacked."

Maybe she should use the twinkie defense, like Dan White did after he shot Moscone and Harvey Milk.
Worked for him.
