On another front, 7 have died, 5 of whom hold the Canadian citizenship, in a southern village, Aitroun, by Israeli rockets.

Update 2: 20 dead now in the Tyre massacre. EU envoy Javier Solana will very soon be making a public address. He has met with PM Seniora, Parliament Speaker Berri and MP Walid Jumblatt. Also a residential building in Tyre has been destroyed, with reported of about ten dead already.

Addendum: It was a painful decision, but I have decided to block comments for now. Though this blog is a public forum and I believe in freedom of speech, but I don't believe it's the time for sarcasm and caustic comments when on both sides of the border people are dying. Lebanese citizens are being killed by the dozens; it hurts too much to overanalyze such realities. I will continue to update the blog regularly for all the Lebanese (and others) abroad who are concerned about what is going on inside Lebanon.

Update 2: Hizbullah's Secretary General Sayyid Nasrallah has just addressed everyone. Israel has asked its citizens to be on alert in Tel Aviv. The IDF has been hitting and has increased its shelling of southern villages and of the southern suburbs of Beirut. The death toll in Lebanon has increased tremendously, beyond the 100+ as of yesterday night. Israel has asked its citizens to be on alert in Tel Aviv.

Saudi Arabia has pledged $50 million for aid to Lebanon.

The Lebanese government is stepping up to its duties by being on alert humanitarian wise. What's fascinating about these blogs is they represent the first time I've ever seen people from both sides of an engaged conflict address one another in real time in an open forum visible to the world.

I think it's important to allow the comments as they have potentially historic significance.
____________________
Oderint, dum metuant

the yoof in Lebanon and Iran seem to really have it together, compared to the West. They are over the violence and although they don't like what the West is doing they can see as many flaws in their leadership as some of us see in ours.

In the last 12 months SBS television has showed a few TV shows on the situation in Lebannon since their former pm or pres was killed, by what seems to be Syrian inteligence. Most young people on both sides of the religiouds divide just want a life. they are sick of war.

And jjj had an interview with an aussie girl who went to Iran and made a movie, but basically lived with young people, ie under 25 not involved in the political machinations of their society.

It was during the fuss and rioting in Iran over those cartoons.

She said most people couldn't care less, described Iran as run by Criminals, according to its young people, and she even said that it was the Iran version of the Neo cons that organised the protests and riots re those cartoons. No one else really gave a flying firetruck.

Basically she said the Iranian population were as alienated from their leadership as we are in the west.

Anyone seeing a pattern here?
