Israel's Foreign Ministry provides Free Internet

Israel's Foreign Ministry provides Free Internet Tool to online activists

The following letter was sent by Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to a variety of pro-Israel organisations, so-called 'hasbara'-groups and other supporters of Israel.

Dear friends,

Many of us recognize the importance of the Internet as the new battleground for Israel's image. It's time to do it better, and coordinate our on-line efforts on behalf of Israel. An Israeli software company have developed a free, safe and useful tool for us - the Internet Megaphone.

Please go to www.giyus.org, download the Megaphone, and you will receive daily updates with instant links to important internet polls, problematic articles that require a talk back, etc.

We need 100,000 Megaphone users to make a difference. So, please distribute this mail to all Israel's supporters.

Do it now. For Israel.

Amir Gissin

Director Public Affairs (Hasbara) Department
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jerusalem
Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs understands that today's conflicts are won by public opinion. They mobilize pro-Israel activists to be active and voice "Israel's side to the world." The Megaphone desktop tool, built by Giyus, which means "mobilization", sends desktop alerts on key articles on Israel and surveys, online polls where activists could click on the button to support Israel and click alerts to easily voice pro-Israel opinions.

The tool tracks down online articles and polls that members should act upon. After installing the tool, members receive alerts on those articles. With this tool Israel's Foreign Ministry obviously thought it would help Israel's fight in cyberspace. However, having used this tool, for others, it is quit useful as well. There is also a weblog and a forum.

To download Megaphone Desktop Tool click here.

mparent7777.livejournal.c...38822.html

A poll published by Israel's Maariv daily newspaper on Thursday, has 82% saying they back the continuing offensive and the number saying "Israel's reaction to Hezbollah attacks is justified" remained unchanged at 95%.

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world...219360.stm

I posted the same letter on a recent AIPAC thread. I followed the link and found all sorts of action alerts and a message board. Apparently the site was launched on 19 July.

It is being used as a way to generate grassroots support especially on a religious level. The Standwithus site is linked to a large assortment of Jewish and Evangelical groups. By appealing to people's base instincts and identities, they are sowing the seeds for a holy war/crusade/jihad (though the Judeo-Christians deny it, at least the Muslims are honest about it.)

Well, everybody can download the thing. Why not do your part?

I know quite a few forum communities filled with people that enjoy nothing more than a good bout of trolling and hedonistic tricksterism. From subtle derailment of conversations into all-out DOS attacks of stupidity like this: www.webpost.net/di/direst...TSSPAM.png

(They're not really mysoginists... mostly... but they'll take any position for fun.)

yeah, i checked the link myself, but didn't download "the thing" (who know what it might really have in it), and it appears real. i wonder what was the spam alert all about. (the person who invited to join it is the number 1 spammer in israel, so I guess this was the conclusion by bloggers, that its a scam). if someone did download it, tell us what you get ?

I have not installed the program, however news orgs often offer similar notifiers. The fact that a government is offering it is a bit creepy.

I took a poll or two from the links which they provided and noticed that each external click may have been recorded by GIYUS. My browser's recent history tree was strictly listed as GIYUS and not aol or cnn. There were also no GIYUS frames after I clicked through.

In Israel, they did a pretty thorough job of limitting the scope of dissent via bloggosphere, and still do. targetted are mostly
left leaning women...
we had a bit of a storm in my web-host the last two days, and the harassers were named and pinpointed, but it led to nothing. there is a bunch of right wing/security/pc types around who do some psychwarfare/sabotage campaigns. they work in small groups, 4-5 coordinated, to increase the effect. it succeeded quite significantly. I, for instance, stopped posting about the war in my blog, i didn't post at all, untill today (about antipsychiatry and feminism blah), nothing about the war. the others had to block responses and then later almost stopped posting about the war too.

they can't do it outside of israel, but are focusing on large websites (MsM blogs, surveys etc,), and bringing in more "pro war" backtalks. had all this energy been spent on other things...more positive..but i guess this is not how things work during war when the energy is focused in destruction.
