Boxer ESG Enters 5th Fleet Area of Operations
Story Number: NNS061109-12
Release Date: 11/9/2006 4:07:00 PM

By Mass Communication Specialist Seaman Derek R. Sanchez, Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/ Commander, U.S. 5th Fleet Public Affairs

USS BOXER, At Sea (NNS) -- USS Boxer (LHD 4) Expeditionary Strike Group (BOXESG) entered U.S. 5th Fleet’s area of operation Nov. 8 during a deployment in support of maritime security operations (MSO).

“I think we’re extremely ready for what the 5th Fleet has to offer,” said BOXESG Commander Capt. David Angood. “It’s a testament to the flexibility, tenacity, and the seriousness of Sailors and Marines in the strike group. If anything significant were to happen in a real-world environment, BOXESG would handle it very well.”

During its deployment, BOXESG is prepared to operate alongside coalition partners and conduct MSO under international maritime conventions.

MSO help set the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment, as well as complement the counter-terrorism and security efforts of regional nations. These operations deny international terrorists use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other material.

BOXESG includes Boxer, USS Dubuque (LPD 8), USS Comstock (LSD 45), USS Benfold (DDG 65), USS Howard (DDG 83), and USS Bunker Hill (CG 52). BOXESG also includes Amphibious Squadron 5, the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), the Coast Guard Cutter Midgett (WHEC 726) and Canadian Frigate HMCS Ottawa (FFH 341).

U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet is headquartered in Manama, Bahrain, and is responsible for about 2.5 million square miles of water including the Persian Gulf, Arabian Sea, Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Gulf of Oman, and parts of the Indian Ocean.

Another Holiday War?

Postby Hugh Manatee Wins » Mon Nov 13, 2006 3:03 pm

Another Holiday War? The military uses the loosening of social ties as cover for attacks.

When work and school goes on holiday the social ties are loosened that spread bad news and create a consensus of awareness and condemnation.

Israel attacked Lebanon when campuses were closed for the summer since that is where much condemnation of militarism comes from in a society.

So like the Friday news dump of bad news, the summer and other holiday are now times for Evil Deeds.

Look out on this coming Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day, July Fourth.

returning home. When the Eisenhower left a few weeks ago, some of the poor troops sent a panicky message to ret. Col. Sam Gardiner that Congress had not been consulted. Dennis Kuchinich has information on the October emergency hearing on bush's possible war on Iran with Col. Gardiner testifying.

some terrible israeli propaganda:x
* for some reason the beeb is showing some terrible israeli propaganda on repeat today - a full hour of israelis saying that they need to attack iran. bibi sez 'ahamdinejad denies the holocaust. the only reason he'd do that is because he wants to commit a holocaust.' (i guess that explains why Hastert pulled the Armenian genocide resolution.)

Iran: Why and How Iranians Must Be Attacked

....Me too. I really want to be wrong.

I put off writing this diary for over a week, waiting to see how things shaped up during the election. While it's a hopeful sign that the Enterprise is heading for home, I'm very nervous about the rhetoric coming out of Israel and the agitations of the neo-cons. I also suspect that the Iraq Survey Group and Robert Gates in particular are pursuing the PNAC plan by partitioning Iraq and blaming Iran for a lack of progress in the region.
