Oldest image of a Crop Circle?

Postby Asta » Wed Jan 25, 2006 6:14 pm

This has to be one of the most interesting, if not entertaining, mysteries I've run across in a while. The story involves a man named Tucker Darby who, while rummaging through a box of his childhood treasures (we all have junk boxes like that in our parents' house, no?) re-discovers an old painting he bought when he was a kid.

That he didn't readily identify it as a crop circle beats the hell out of me, but the story about how he got it back home (you'll love airport security even more after this) and the pains he's taken to find out about the artist make for a great tale.

The painting was done in 1913.

If you wish to read the story, please begin with the link on the right that states: Jan. 5, 2006, Over the Holidays I found this strange painting.

And if anyone here knows who Benjamin Stove is, send Tucker an email before he gives himself an ulcer figuring this mystery out.

Also for discusion purposes here, do any of you agree that the formation is that of the ethanol molecule? Check out the forums...some fun reading.

on edit: Dumb me, I forgot the website:

www.whoisbenjaminstove.com/

(I hope you all enjoy the mystery as much as I am. It's a nice distraction from all the scary stuff going on right now.)

P.S. I still cannot upload an image, so if someone can come to my rescue and upload the crop circle painting image, it would be wonderful!!!!

Edited by: Asta at: 1/25/06 3:20 pm

The oldest image of a crop circle I'm aware of is an old wood cut of a devil or demon with a scythe cutting crops in a cornfield. It certainly doesn't show any geometric patterns or symbols most modern circles show, but it's certainly interesting. I'll try and find the image or a link.

the crop circles form a molecular diagram of the drinking type of alcohol.

I suspect it's ground work for a new whisky or beer marketing campaign. Adds for the site all over the place. I was sucked into the site for awhile one evening too.

Edited by: anotherdrew at: 1/25/06 5:11 pm

Anotherdrew, I did a lot more reading and I have come to believe that you're probably right. It's a marketing ploy.

Clever one, though.

Has given me an idea for a short story.

I'm still hoping maybe it's a game and not an advertising scheme.

Viral

Viral marketing efforts seem to be showing up all over the place. The "flying car" below I believe is viral marketing from Google.

p216.ezboard.com/frigorou...2824.topic
