The Waterford Incident
Aired May 7, 1978

A strange sighting is reported by several students at Waterford Military Academy, headed by Col. Max Delany. The boys claim a saucer flew over their school, discharging strands of an 'angel hair' substance that turned their hands green when they touched it, and the military school becomes enveloped in a strange web-like substance left behind by the UFO. Gatlin and Fitz investigate the incident, and also a case told to them by astronomer Dr. Virginia Paulson, who puts them in touch with Darryl Biggs, a young man who sighted a triangular-shaped vehicle in the woods while hunting. Afraid of losing his job because of his bizarre story, Biggs reluctantly tells Gatlin and Fitz how an unearthly alien robot emerged from the ship and attacked him.

It's pretty damned easy when you use rigour and intuition. We might not be right, but we are here.

Who was that joker with the fucking lines on Mars? There was also some clown trying to get us to bite on some kind of thin threads falling from the sky, I think in Texas. It would be funny if at least it wasn't.

Er... There were some kind of anomolous thin white threads falling from the sky in Austin Tx a few years back. Super sticky stuff, too. In some parts of Austin it covered everything , for several months, in a layer of nearly unwashable gunk. The papes reported that the build up was due to an unusually high amount of tree pollen, but I wasn't buying it. No clue what it could have been, but nearly everyone I talked to about it agreed that it was strange and unprecedented. So, not sure what sort of theories the poster you are refering to was trying to pitch, but it may not have been entirely meritless. It's not the sort of thing I'd normally bring up here. Or anywhere, for that matter.

Star Jelly and Angel Hair mythology definitely pre-date chemtrail theories, and both are associated with UFO phenomena. Both wikipedia entries give a nice attempt for skepticism but most examples lead to more questions than answers.

There was s good chapter on angel hair in one of my mother's paranormal research books dating from the 60's or early 70's, I wish that information was available on the internet.

So did you keep samples? Did anyone? Have there been chemical analyses? What's the point in speculating when you can find out exactly what it is?

In the new RI, I'll continue mainly to look benevolently on the Sasquatch and frog-rain stuff, from afar.

Well, I never saw any and I've generally been convinced by the mainstream explanation of these as spider webs; except when the incident occurs in the presence of another unknown like a "UFO" ...

And I think most of these were sighted in north Texas. And I aint goin to fuckin Dallas for freakin spider webs!

Back in November my wife and I were at a local park just walking around and while in the parking lot my attention was drawn upwards to something glittering in a treetop ... it was a spider's web (tell-tale pattern) either glistening with moisture or just catching the light on its own.

Then I noticed a similar glinting from the sky above and that's when I noticed that there were occasional "clouds" / "whisps" of what looked like identical spider webs floating through the sky.

I should have gotten pics ... I didn't see any coming down or any stuck to anything nearby.

Anyway, just noticed this article / vid at infowars which ... sure looks like spider webs to me:

And here is the CBS story page with video...

'Mysterious' fibers in Chino Valley are biodegradable gauze (Video)

By Greg Argos

CHINO VALLEY, AZ (CBS5) -
An Arizona woman who spotted mysterious fibers falling from the sky in Chino Valley contacted CBS 5 News looking for answers.

"The fibers were so long. They looked like 50- to 60-foot-long solid raindrops," said Marie Snow. She said she spotted the fibers on Nov. 5 in the mid-afternoon after noticing three military planes in the sky.

"It's thicker than a spider web. It's very strong, but I wouldn't touch it with my bare hands. I'm frightened. I want it to be tested by a lab," she said.

CBS 5 News brought three samples to the Forensic Science Lab at Grand Canyon University. Melissa Beddow, the director of the lab, tested the samples.

"(This device) sends some infrared light into the sample and looks at what essentially comes back. With this instrument, we can get a unique chemical fingerprint of that sample."

The samples were analyzed under 40 times magnification.

It turns out the fibers are a mixture of wheat, gluten, flour and bacitracin, an antibiotic.

Beddow's theory is the fibers are part of biodegradable gauze used on nearby cattle farms.

"With the bandage on an animal like that, it would be best designed if the animal could consume it and it wouldn't hurt the animal in any way," she said.
