As fun as it is, I hate citing GLP, but I found this video on this this thread over there tonight. As far as I know, the video is only compatable with Real Player. The story behind it can be read here.

I'm not making any claims for it, but it's...interesting.

According to the story on Rense, one of the problems with this encounter is that the alien is hiding behind a lamppost that isn't really wide enough to hide behind... my answer to that would be, this is some kind of (possibly temporary) portal or wormhole. It looked to me like the being was trying to grab David and pull him in; sounds like it, too, from what I can pick up on trying to translate their slang (some I nderstand, some I don't, but he was shocked and alarmed for sure.) This comes out in the above written story as well.

I believe this is a real deal, an attempted waking abduction. That creature does NOT look like the classic small grey; there are many other possibilities. --MaryK

intentional disclosure...?

Next question:

Just supposing that might be a real alien beaming through a porthole just in time to try to yank soccer dude through some wrinkle in time....wouldn't said alien likely be aware of being on candid camera?

If so, was that the whole point: to get some serious alien airplay?

Was this, in other words, a calculated alien-engineered act of "disclosure" -- to go public?

If so, why?

Are things heating up on someone's timeline? Time to get busy?

Who's on candid camera: us or them?

Just askin'...not believin'...yet.

I'm thinking that the boys-with-cellphone-camera is not a big enough platform for an intentional disclosure. But this happened many months ago... how long? Was it part of the evacuation last summer, of Bad Aliens? Were they merely grocery shopping for their long trip? And, of course, as any hunter or fisherman knows, sometimes they get away... --MaryK

this doesn't look like an abduction attempt.

Like so many accounts of entities, men in black, phantom clowns and "social workers," the "snatch," if it can even be called that, is a half-hearted gesture. To me, it appears as though provoking a powerful emotional response - fear - was more likely the intent.

Interesting, if you watch the beginning of the video while they are just playing soccer and everything appears normal there seems to be a very brief motion from behind the lampost, like the entity is peeking their head around it. This happens at between 0:05 and 0:06...cant figure out how to copy the frame....mx

Hokay. Buncha kids out at night, playing football. Fine so far. One of them filming it on his phone. Well, okay.

Break in film, light changes. Spooky head appears, spooky arm reaches out. Kids run away.

I don't really care about the lack of quality, only in so far as it makes the "alien" harder to see and therefore easier to fake.

Yes, I suppose it could be an alien entity stretching through a multi-dimensional portal, but it could also be just a bunch of kids doing that fake alien thing again. Given that it looks like a fake alien, and given they're a bunch of kids out at night with a camera phone!

Good point, Pants.

So is there something about this might communicate authenticity, despite the possibility of hokum?

For me, it's the movement of the alien dude. The gestures seem authentic: truly creepy.

I know that's not saying much.... A camera phone for chrissakes!

"Were they merely grocery shopping for their long trip? And, of course, as any hunter or fisherman knows, sometimes they get away..."

--thanks for the laugh, MaryK.

The video will play in quicktime 7, for me anyway...

Hmm, strange how the footage when the alien appears is so much lower quality and framerate than the beginning bit...

No way to deduce anything whatsoever from such a tiny clip really, but assuming it's fake, probably viral marketing. That seems to be a safe bet these days with any 'weird' video on the internet!

Any diagram with the labels 'Alien', 'Large Arm' and 'Soccer Ball' is OK with me tho!

i don't really know how camera phones work, but the image quality might suffer if the kid changed the "digital" ISO of the image. ISO is like speed of the film. the faster the speed/bigger the number, the less light needed for an image to form on the negative/sensor. when you use fast film in traditional cameras, you get grainier images. when you set high ISO with digital cameras you lose picture quality/accurate color rendering.

those cuts before the alien appears each time seem strange, but maybe that was the phone automatically adjusting the ISO? dunno. creepy tho.

Why are there two soccer balls?

The person is going to pick up the soccer ball that is resting near the pole with the "entity." Between seconds 25 and 30, if you look to the left of the video, near the base of the steps (about halfway between the middle of the screen and the top of the screen) you can watch another soccer ball clearly rolling and changing directions.
----
The best way to keep a secret is to tell everyone.

That's one half of the equation.

The other half of course being that...well...for some of us ...we don't know.

Between the two, place your bets.

Me -- I'll be tucking this puppy away for future reference.

Time might come when it will have paid to keep an open mind, with a side of Occam, of course.

what's the story on the 'cut' before the alien scene?

PostPosted: Fri Jan 13, 2006 12:41 am
by glubglubglub
that cut is going to doom it for credibility imho, regardless of the contents; that the contents are easily dismissable as-is settles this video's evidentiary value, although personally I'd like to see a touched-up version...

I used to know a guy who could do the following:
i) run through a stabilizer (to lose the jitteriness)
ii) slow-down + frame average

ii) is key: by averaging out noise over several frames more of the 'real image' pops out, esp. on noisy systems like this cameraphone's video system. I'm no longer in touch with that guy -- anyone got a pal doing postproduction work that can do a stabilize and take-down to 1/6th speed, say, w. each new frame a 5-frame average?

alien encounter caught on camera?

Well, looks like, what ever it is, is coming from between two buildings to me...ya know, an alley way. The pic isn't clear enough to tell what it is. I'm not believing or disbelieving...I've seen to much weird shit to discount stuff like this out of hand...but I just can't tell one way or the other if it's real or fake.
