Quotes:

"If you want to make enemies, try to change something..."

"The year is 2027, it is a time of great innovation and technological advancement, it is also a time of chaos and conspiracy..."

"Corporations have more power than the government. Everyone's fighting for power, for control."

Summary:

The video shows a lot of symbolism, like the games before it. The beginning shows Adam Jenson, the security officer you play as, having a nightmare where he is Icarus trying to fly away, only to have his wings burned off. Much of the tone and technology in the game is similar to the Cyberpunk Dystopia like Ghost In The Shell and Bladerunner, dealing with the ethics of cybernetics and transhumanism. If we make it past 2012, I think this is a highly plausible future in terms of technology. Much of the "conspiracies" that were present in Deus Ex 1 & 2, reflecting on real world, present day events are still very much present. Jensen says, "Corporations have more power than the government," and the trailer splices that with the all-seeing-eye, the pyramid, and "in god we trust," from the U.S. 1 dollar bill. The games before it introduced factions like MJ12 (The Majestic 12) and The Illuminati. There are also mass protests shown in Detroit where civilians are killed in cold blood by the police. A very dark, a dreary future.
