Jeff,
I wondered, is there a limit to the number of forums you can create?

If each one can only hold twenty pages, then perhaps you could divide them by topic, such as you have done with the posts and links on your blog.
PW

Sweejak, would you like me to move

Postby Rigorous Intuition » Mon Jul 25, 2005 9:33 pm

the "Nazis, Muslim Brotherhood and the CIA (Must Read)" thread?

Project Willow, that's not a bad idea if ezboard were a long-term solution, but I don't think it should be. If we had a spamming attack, it would take little effort to erase everything on open forums. The security is awful, considering posts can get bumped into the abyss.

Edited by: Rigorous Intuition at: 7/25/05 7:34 pm

solutions.

A big problem for me right now is time. If there are some tasks I can delegate, as I learn what tasks arise, I may ask for some help.

I wish I could help, just not savvy enough computer wise. Maybe I am? Anyway I do know people who run phbb forums and they have two administrators that manage the forum, one in Switzerland and the other in Peru. So this idea of sharing can certainly be done. I am sure they would be free with their advice. contact me if you want an introduction.

Alpha forum

Can you move Open Discussion #2 up to the top of the list in place of the first Open Discussion?

In addition to being top of the list it would then be in a white box rather than a grey one.

budget hosting shouldnt cost more than ezboard (as they have a strange business model/pricing structure).
Shared hosting (ie not your own personal server) in the 10 Euro range equates to about 250,000 views of a single plaintext page a month,to give you a ball-park example.
These types of hosts can have slow-ish response times but i doubt its as bad as ezboard. The advantage is you have total control and backup/restore should be "trivial"
May i suggest that when chosing a host you pay attention to the physical location of the host. That way you get to chose which legal system applies to your "free speech".
ISP's that actively protect your rights to "free speech" (and protect you from hackers) are often (much) more expensive than the budget hosts, but you can consider backups as your protection against hackers.

I can offer some time, and above average computer knowledge, but i'm no replacement for a real expert.

colors

Postby Ferry Fey » Tue Jul 26, 2005 11:12 am

Jeff, while you are tinkering perhaps you might want to give some thought to changing the color scheme of the forum postings?

Alternating cream and white backgrounds with black lettering would be a whole lot more readable than this dingy grey and government surplus dingy aqua background (er, "dusty teal"?) that you are currently using.

The postings here are pretty information dense, and their optimal readability is important. There's a reason most books are printed with black type on white paper, and that's because it's a lot easier to read that way.

I'm really having trouble with this white background could you try silver, Jeff ?

wdvl.com/Graphics/Color/color2.html
Color

Background Colors, Images and Textures

When choosing a background for Web pages, keep in mind that ease of reading the textual content of the page is most important. Black text on a white background is what we are most familiar with and it provides the best contrast for reading. The white of a computer monitor, however, is harsher than white paper and may cause eye strain after prolonged reading. A white background can be toned down by using a very light gray or pastel color. When a colored background is desired, consider your overall color scheme. Avoid bright primary colors—very pale or muted colors, especially cool colors and natural/earth tones are good choices for backgrounds. Be sure to provide a good contrast between the text and the background.
www.heritage.nf.ca/guide/color.html

www.webmasterworld.com/forum83/6885.htm

Edited by: seemslikeadream at: 7/26/05 1:00 pm

posts not advancing?

Postby Dreams End » Tue Jul 26, 2005 3:38 pm

I'm finding on the new forum that threads with the newest posts are not moving to the top...I like that feature, since I follow so many of the threads. Is it me or a setting on EZboard's end?
