musical suspects

Postby friend catcher » Wed Apr 05, 2006 2:41 pm

Well, today a man was hauled off a plane as a suspected terrorist. He aroused the suspicions of a taxi driver for playing Led Zeppelin and the Clash. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/4879918.stm

Any help compiling a top ten suspicious playlist will be appreciated,

Where to begin?

Postby thoughtographer » Wed Apr 05, 2006 7:08 pm

If Led Zeppelin and The Clash are setting people off, being from the '60's and '70s, respectively; where the hell would you even start with the music of today?

I was listening to Bad Brains (also a band founded in the 1970s) in the car today, and got a pretty good glare from a flag-waver in a big pickup truck. I'm willing to bet that he'd do more than glare if he could actually understand the lyrics.
"A crooked stick will cast a crooked shadow."
Edited by: thoughtographer at: 4/5/06 5:11 pm

Re Jordan Minnesota

Postby OpLan » Thu Apr 06, 2006 2:09 am

Heres an interview with Steve Albini

www.petdance.com/actionpa...ck/jordan/

Interviewers: Is that fictitious, or is it...

Steve: Oh no. You ought to look it up. Jordan, Minnesota, 2 years ago, there were 26 indictments handed down by a district attorney for this group of people, which is literally about a third of the adult population of this town, Jordan, Minnesota, who were involved in this elaborate kid fucking ring. They would play these weird games, they'd play spin the bottle, they'd get to fuck each other's kids, and they'd take each other's kids home and things like that. It was really absolutely staggering, right? All these parents got big-ass lawyers, and the district attorney was afraid that these kids would collapse under cross examination, like have nervous breakdowns. With domineering adults screaming at them that they're lying, of course these kids are going to flip out. So, they dropped all the charges. Which means all these kids are going back to their houses, and the exact same shit has got to be going on. Nothing has changed, basically. I mean, you guys hadn't even known it had happened- that shows you how much publicity there is about stuff like this. And now all these kids are back in their houses.

Interviewers: And it's all the kids now, because the parents are the people they're supposed to respect.

Steve: A four year old kid, he has no cognizance of his own personality yet. He doesn't even know he's a distinct person from everybody else in the world, and here he is being taught, basically, that the way people interact is by fucking each other's kids.

The interviewer researched the story..this quoted from a dead link..

www.vix.com/pub/men/false...lrasc.html

Another early case (known as the "Scott County case") occurred in Jordan, Minnesota in the early 1980s. It began when a trash collector caught molesting young girls, accused their parents of running a child sex ring in order to gain a light sentence. After the parents were arrested, their friends protested. Then they in turn were accused and arrested. At one point 24 people were accused and many children spent months in foster care. During coercive interviews some children were told they could return to their parents if they described the abuse (this I found in Scalia's dissenting opinion in Craig vs. Maryland 1990). Ultimately the trash collector admitted to making up the accusations to obtain a generous sentence; two parents were tried and acquitted; and Kathleen Morris, the prosecutor, lost her next election.

this is also from a broken link..which worryingly redirects to a porn site..

From "The JET Report"

All the defendants in the Jordan, Minnesota trial were also acquitted but not before they had been financially ruined and everybody who believed them innocent (including the Deputy Sheriff and his wife) had been arrested so that a total of 24 people were eventually prosecuted. The prosecutor was subsequently reprimanded by the State Board of Professional Responsibility. In the hysteria that spread rapidly across the country in the months and years after the first accusations in August 1983 children alleged sexual abuse in graveyards, crypts and cellars, said that they were involved in rituals requiring the use and often ingestion of blood, that they had seen human bodies being eaten and abuse connected with burned or cooked babies (Chicago and Bakersfield).

theres a book linked to which Jeff may find useful,

Satan's Silence: Ritual Abuse and the Making of a Modern American Witch Hunt
www.amazon.com/gp/product...7?n=283155

From Publishers Weekly
Journalist Nathan and lawyer Snedeker, both involved in debunking ritual-abuse cases, have produced a thoughtful investigation of how and why such cases have led to "moral panic" over the past 15 years. They trace how emerging theories about sex abuse?which proclaimed children's truthfulness?led to a situation in which social workers supplanted police as investigators, and how changes in family and gender relations (including victimology feminism) fueled social preoccupation with demonology. They look closely at several cases, including the notorious McMartin case in California, which led to paranoiac attitudes toward public child care and to a growing "ritual-abuse industry."

..the 'terrorist' which inspired this thread lives across the river from me..and around the time of 'Jordan', we had two doctors proclaiming widespread child abuse in this area..one completely innocent dad lived in my street..I can't remember now what they were doing wrong,it might have been confusing nappy rash with abuse marks..but they devastated a lot of families before they were stopped.

I never saw big black live, but I saw Rapeman,Dinosaur Jr, and the Band of Susans at leeds university..the students union had tried to stop the gig,but messed up and it went ahead..only they wouldn't staff the bar..and they wouldn't let us out to drink and return...it was one of the best concerts I ever saw..seeing the mosh pit fight over the dozen beer cans he threw them out of pity was very funny...a hardcore feeding of the five thousand..jeez..20 years ago man..where does the time go..

Thanks for posting that. I had forgotten about that interview.

Rapeman, Dinosaur Jr. and Band of Susans; weird, but great lineup -- would have been nice to be there. I missed Big Black when they played in a local basement because I was too young to drive at the time. Rapeman ended way too soon. "Budd" is a downright haunting song, especially when you consider the subject matter. The machinery that lead to Budd Dwyer's televised suicide is still rolling along to this very day -- and as it is, people barely even remember the spectacular image of a state politician eating a bullet on a televised press conference, so what's the hope of seeing the forces that lead to it seeing the light of day?
"A crooked stick will cast a crooked shadow."
Edited by: thoughtographer at: 4/6/06 12:32 am

musical suspects

Postby friend catcher » Thu Apr 06, 2006 9:24 am

Many thanks for the suggestions, some I know well, some I vaguely remember and a few are new. Info from another site is that the clash's London Calling for which the suspect was suspected, so to speak, is the song of choice for the Police Riot Squad. They play it in the van before kick off to get the blood going.

Shields, sticks, and a thumping tribal beat.Old as the stone age, almost nostalgic.
