Daily Kos

Postby sln70 » Fri Oct 13, 2006 9:08 pm

I'm not sure how this will be greeted, since.. well since everything discussed on here would naturally be verboten on Daily Kos. However, I'm posting it anyway, for the sake of discussion.

Daily Kos routinely eliminates posts (diaries) that have anything to do with 9/11 truth, among other things. One of those 'other things' used to be election rigging, but they've since relaxed that policy. (Probably because RFK is getting so much press about his exposé)

Censorship is abhorrent to me (although I have a serious problem reconciling this with my feelings about child porn literature). I guess I am just dumbfounded at the so-called progressives in the US - that they would condone and support censorship and that they will NOT allow themselves or anyone in their presence to question whatever they awnt to question.

this is sort of rambing, i know. But what is it that makes Americans tick ? Why, if the left is so convinced of A. Their government's capacity for lies; and B. their superiority, do they get so threatened by questions or statements that they think are absurd. Why not just man-up and let each person stand on their own??

Quick definitions (dilemma)

noun: state of uncertainty or perplexity especially as requiring a choice between equally unfavorable options

Yep, I think what you're talking about is a very complex dilemma. On the one hand, you have what has been discussed here previously, namely the religiosity of some conspiracy believers, who tend to flood sites that allow them to have their say, over and over and over again. On the other hand, you have the population of wanna-be high school kings and queens, grown up, even grown old, whose egos won't allow them believe that there are people who can be so brazen as to do such outrageous things right in front of their eyes. And then there's the rest of us who like to see the arguments both ways, find the arguments very informative. Problem is, if a balance can't be kept between the two competing groups, usually what you end up with is a bunch of kooks agruing with themselves or a bunch of gray-haired cheerleaders. Which is why I hated to see Qutb leave. He was important to that balance, even if he did let himself get tripped.

Edited by: chiggerbit at: 10/13/06 9:23 pm

Kos is primarily concerned with winning elections for Democrats. As such, parapolitical narratives interfere with the stated mission because they make the site appear not to be "serious".

I realize that the social and linguistic boundaries delineated by the word "serious" are constructed to the advantage of elites in such a way as to discourage certain subjects from being discussed or even contemplated. Nevertheless, those who have immediate pragmatic goals (winning elections) need to respect these boundaries.

The fact is, most people can't handle the "truth".

good points ...

I would add that Kos -- both the person and his underlings -- suffers the same disease of conceit as all of those drawn to politics these days.

He is paid to write books, give speeches, etc. His site makes more than $15,000 a month in "blog ads." He has a legion of volunteers who work for free writing "diaries" -- there are literally 20 diary posts for every post by Kos.

I don't know him and have no reason to think he's evil or whatever, but he is clearly in love with the idea of being a "political power broker." This means following the unwritten yet well-known rules. And one of the big rules is Thou Shalt Not Bring Up Anything Really Horrible and/or Dangerous.

KOS

Postby steve vegas » Sat Oct 14, 2006 12:31 am

is an opportunistic weenie, just listen to him on the sam seder/majority report radio show, he usually turns up on tuesdays...he's a "former" republican and army man...i'm all for democrats winning elections (some of them really are slightly better than republicans, really, although the thought of nancy pelosi as house majority leader gives me chills) but i really don't think KOS gives a poop, his blog biz will probably do better with a democratic minority...just chiming in because KOS irritates me to no end...

I was "banned" from Kos. Here's how it went:

I stood up to defend one of the postings that slipped through merely asking questions about 9/11. The people who post such musings often don't defend themselves, or do a (conveniently) shitty job of defending themselves, especially when they're simply asking questions.

Nevertheless, the usual (easy-to-list) clique of "anti-Conspiracy" Ridicule Mob showed up to identify themselves as the "Kos Police" and tell me that I needed to shut up.

When I challenged them to do something about "shutting me up," one eager East German Police Informant petitioned to have me locked out and banned.

Funny part is, I was a long-term member, well-rated, and I had earned a "Troll-Rate Button" which is given to "responsible and upstanding members" of Kos.

But it appears that you don't even need to ask questions about 9/11 -- simply defend someone who is.

Kos himself, I don't know anything about him.

But the Kos System is a feast for Operation Mockingbirders & COINTELPRO & such... and Kos isn't stupid or naive enough to not know that.

Daily Kos is very creepy due to its willfully-ignored security holes.

true

Postby sln70 » Sat Oct 14, 2006 11:41 am

it's clear that he's in the business of Democratic politics, and loving the attention he's getting. It's also true that there would be those who would flood the site with their views if given a platform.

However, if there are that many people who want more information on 9/11 - if there are that many people for whom the issue is of importance, shouldn't that automatically become part of the political agenda?

It makes me think about how women must have felt during the suffrage movement - ridiculed, told that they weren't worthy of being included in the debate, ignored, etc. Creepy that Kos would participate in this and that many of the people there act like his gestapo.

BTW I was banned for the same reason - I came to the defense of a diarist who posted about 9/11. I didn't even realize I *had* been benned until a couple of days after it had happened. It gave me the willies when I realized that I'd been neutralized.. I could still look but not reply. I could read but not write. spooky feeling, really.
