Alert - CIA closed Bin-Laden Unit LAST YEAR!!!!

BECAUSE HE'S BEEN DEAD FOR 5 YEARS!

It's all soooo fake phony and obvious.

CIA closes down unit that was hunting Bin Laden
07/03/2006 @ 10:08 pm
Filed by RAW STORY

The CIA has closed down a secret unit that for a decade had the mission of hunting Osama bin Laden and his top lieutenants, intelligence officials said Monday, the NEW YORK TIMES will report Tuesday, RAW STORY has learned. Excerpts:

The terrorist tracking unit, known inside the spy agency as "Alec station," was disbanded late last year and its analysts reassigned to other offices within the CIA's Counterterrorist Center, the officials said.

The decision is a milestone of sorts for the agency, which created the unit before Osama bin Laden became a household name and bolstered its ranks after the Sept. 11 attacks, when President Bush pledged to bring bin Laden to justice "dead or alive."

The realignment reflects a view that al-Qaida is no longer as hierarchical as it once was, intelligence officials said, as well as growing concern about al-Qaida-inspired groups that have begun carrying out attacks independent of bin Laden and his top deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri.

CIA officials said that tracking bin Laden and his deputies remains a high priority, and that the decision to disband the unit is not a sign that the effort has slackened. Instead, the officials said, the realignment reflects a belief that the agency can better deal with high-level threats by focusing on regional trends rather than on specific organizations or individuals.

DEVELOPING....

www.rawstory.com/admin/db...story=2416

This story was first carried by NPR and the New York Times.

That means it is most likely a carefully marketed psy-ops story as part of a campaign to push emotional buttons in those whose buttons are still pushable by military-industrial-media.

I'd say this is meant to make the Osama-hating public anxious while moving away from the image of one boogie-man towards the more generalized anxiety of 'many Osamas' and thereby insulate the GOP from the election year accusation that they hadn't caught 'Mr. 9/11.'

Here's more from the NYTimes and note the revived reference to another old boogie man used to discredit hippies back during Vietnam and the CIA's Operation CHAOS attacks on domestic groups, Charles Manson. Spooks used him as a front for their own murderers to generate blood-soaked news stories.

The fog of mixed messages: The NYTimes characterizes the Osama Unit as having a reputation as "crazed alarmists."
Ow ow ow, my head. What am I supposed to think?! lol.

Another linguistic tactic: personalization.
The unit is said to be named after a member's son and the responsibility for closing it is ascribed to one man. Very compartmentalized accountability.

www.nytimes.com/2006/07/0...r=homepage

Quote:
Established in 1996, when Mr. bin Laden's calls for global jihad were a source of increasing concern for officials in Washington, Alec Station operated in a similar fashion to that of other agency stations around the globe.

The two dozen staff members who worked at the station, which was named after Mr. Scheuer's son and was housed in leased offices near agency headquarters in northern Virginia, issued regular cables to the agency about Mr. bin Laden's growing abilities and his desire to strike American targets throughout the world.

In his book "Ghost Wars," which chronicles the agency's efforts to hunt Mr. bin Laden in the years before the Sept. 11 attacks, Steve Coll wrote that some inside the agency likened Alec Station to a cult that became obsessed with Al Qaeda.

"The bin Laden unit's analysts were so intense about their work that they made some of their C.I.A. colleagues uncomfortable," Mr. Coll wrote. Members of Alec Station "called themselves 'the Manson Family' because they had acquired a reputation for crazed alarmism about the rising Al Qaeda threat."

Intelligence officials said Alec Station was disbanded after Robert Grenier, who until February was in charge of the Counterterrorist Center, decided the agency needed to reorganize to better address constant changes in terrorist organizations.

Edited by: Hugh Manatee Wins at: 7/4/06 1:40 am

This will only cause more howls of "TREASON!" from the ranks of the Bush Cultists. Nevermind the implication that bin Laden is dead.
