I wanna say something poignant here, but I don't really know how to convey it. I'm grateful at the least that someone's still paying attention to the Anthrax issue, imo, one of the most transparent things about 9/11..
____________________
Some are born to sweet delight, some are born to endless night.
Edited by: et in Arcadia ego at: 8/2/06 2:21 pm

Curiouser and curiouser. Probably more marketing effort goes into thinking up a company's name than into anything else. Sound, sense, denotations, connotations, etc. , etc., etc.... it's all chewed over and considered at length, the prime consideration being: Does this name accurately convey our company's philassoffy?

Here's more about Margaret Attwood's Gilead (and note that "The Handmaid's Tale" is a very well-known modern North American novel):

"The Republic of Gilead is ruled through biblical propaganda and rigid enforcement of social roles. Most citizens have been stripped of their freedoms. All religions, except the official state religion, have been suppressed. wow indeed. shameless.

I had the feeling that some Israelis are involved in the sending of the envelopes during that anthrax scare. well, the same ones that I thought were alligned with cheney/rumsfeld/Bush as of the first iraq war. Havanagilla, do you have any idea what Amos Gilead was up to in the mid-80s? And did Rumsfeld - or the founders of Gilead Sciences - have any contact with him at that time?

Just brainstorming here. Major-General Gilead's name may be no more than coincidence, of course. And beyond Google, I have very little idea how to research such things.

But I can't believe they were unaware of Attwood's recently-published book when choosing that name for their company. Even if they never read the novel, it was a pretty prominent public event.
