We are all spies now.

How do you build brand loyalty? You bring them in a little, let them have some safe fun. "Come on in kids, we're not so scary, in fact, we're kinda nerdy but that's cool these days. In the mid-1950s my elementary school class took a trip to Washington, DC. We saw the usual places: the Smithsonian, various memorials, money being printed, etc.

There was also a perfunctory stop at FBI headquarters which consisted almost entirely of every single child being fingerprinted. ("Hey, kids! This'll be fun!")

I can't claim to have had a conscious grasp of why something about it felt wrong, but it did. The vibe was skewed; an agenda could be sensed.

check out the music

Postby Corvidaerex » Mon Aug 14, 2006 1:50 am

I've been "enjoying" that site for a while now.

First, it appears to be an incredibly crude & retarded ripoff of the beloved Web cartoon "Homestar Runner."

Compare & contrast:
www.homestarrunner.com/main1.html
www.nrojr.gov/NROjr/index.htm

(Make sure to mouseover the menu items, with your sound turned On.)

Second, the music is a farkin' outrage. There's the Brian Eno vs. Ry Cooder "Paris, Texas" loop (or maybe it's just a Calexico ripoff) -- from "Main Menu," click "Art" then "Picture Making" and then "Next." It's worth it. (Or, it's horrific.)

If you can stand it, click "Music" from the main menu and enjoy the jukebox of Hell. I dunno if I love "American Pride" or "I'm a Little Satellite" best ...

The good news is that I can't imagine a kid ever coming across this shit website. Somewhere in the NRO's gazillion-dollar budget, there was a $800 line item for "Kidz Outreach Online" or something, and here's the result.

The kids with computers are playing Sims and whining to their emo friends on News Corp.'s MySpace and spending hours a day on NeoPets. This NRO thing is at least proof that the Rumsfeld/Cheney crowd has NO IDEA how to deal with wired kids.

Even Murdoch has no idea how to deal with them. The purchase of MySpace proved it.

I shouldn't type and talk on the phone at the same time.

Missing first sentence of my previous post should've said, "And check out the National Reconnaissance Office's kidz page: www.nrojr.gov/NROjr/index.htm "
