FBI probing 'nuclear info leak'

BBC / Peter Bowes | October 29 2006

The FBI is investigating whether information from a US nuclear weapons laboratory was found in a police drugs search of a New Mexico trailer park.

Police said that material recovered during the search appeared to come from Los Alamos National Laboratory.

The lab, one of two US sites that carry out classified nuclear research, has a history of security breaches.

The owner of the mobile home which was raided is said to be a former employee of one of the lab's sub-contractors.

Drug paraphernalia

Police visited the mobile home park in response to reports of a domestic disturbance.

They then carried out a search of the mobile home and a man was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

The authorities say they also discovered possibly classified information from the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

In a statement the police said during the course of the search, officers realised that some of the items seized appeared to belong to the cutting-edge centre for nuclear weapons research.

According to the head of the energy department's national nuclear security administration, investigators want to find out how the possible security breach could occur despite extraordinary efforts in the last three years to put strong security procedures in place at Los Alamos and other weapons facilities.

Los Alamos was the home of the Manhattan Project which created the first atomic bomb in the 1940s.

The lab has a history of high-profile problems, including breaches in security.

The Governor of New Mexico, Bill Richardson, said the lab had made efforts to improve security - but apparently not enough.

Something to consider about false-flag terrorism.

They have to prepare for the effects of false-flag terrorism even when they are not in on it, too.

We aren't the only ones who know it happens. So imagine those Homeland inSecurity and CIA-types who know that they have their own rogues at home who create boogie men for them.

Like
>WTC bombing #1 in 1993
>OKC bombing in 1995
>TWA800 shootdown in 1996
>Atlanta bombing days later in 1996 (probably)
> 9/11/01, the Big One.

What a conundrum because they can't tell the public "uh, we're preparing for the probability that our own people will unleash something from Fort Dettrick's bioweapon lab or make one of our preparedness excercises go 'live' again."

NORAD can't admit that they can't control their own systems as was shown on 9/11 when wargames were hijacked right under their noses. They just can't create that psychological schizophrenia in their own people when they work so hard to motivate them to defend against 'outside' enemies.

But if they have any brains they know what we know and have to prepare for it.

This may sound rather juvenile but

my antennae went up when a new TV series began this fall -- "Jericho". It's about a small town that is trying to survive a nuclear war -- all the major cities have been hit, and each episode is another step in their ability to grasp the situation and cope with the loss of their technologies. It's not a great show but I've been watching it to see how inaccurate it is. (Reminds me a bit of "Alas, Babylon" but not as involving.)

I suppose it's just another TV series along the lines of "Survivor" and "Lost", but a series about surviving a nuclear war bothered me. Why such a series NOW and not such a TV offering during the Cold War? (I don't think movies would count, and I'm referring to "On the Beach" and "The Day After" and all those horror Sci-Fi flicks about giant ants and stuff.)

Of course, it has it's happy feel-good moments when the town folks figure out how to share and get along with each other... .

Dear Persons This is my DEBUT. I never knew how to post replies! But I do publish articles a-plenty. Please see my discussion relevant to this nuclear thing at www.smirkingchimp.com/thread/2251
I am begging for a comment on it. Thank you. Mary Maxwell, Ph.D.

The gist of it is that presidents acting ultra vires lose their governmental immunity from criminal prosecution. Underlings, too.

brains

"But if they have any brains they know what we know and have to prepare for it."

I keep hearing the "incompetent" excuse everywhere I go(not here so much, of course and I know that is not what you are saying in your post).

The reason I mention this in this context is that I am seeing more and more of this on other messageboards.

It's quite discouraging to see people excusing the gov. because they claim they don't know what they're doing on the job.
