Been Lurking; Howdy!

Postby Starman » Thu Aug 18, 2005 4:21 pm

Heyia Nashvillebrook;

Welcome to RI. Always good to see new folks with well-considered perspectives and informed opinions join in the discussions here. Your point about Bush moving the seat of Government is I think a valid one -- If, as some folks argue, it's a non-issue, then what if the percentage of time in Texas vs. Washington DC were flipped, ie, 58% vs 42&?

It seems in Bush's case, he's pushing the envelope of what's acceptable and 'proper' as per past precedence. What if he spent 75% of his time at the 'Ranch' (and man, if THAT whole farcical charade about him being a 'good-ol'-boy' Rancher ain't a piece of male-cow-doo-doo constructed as a cheap PR stunt to put a 'common-man' face on who/what is a spoiled-child titular-heir to an oiligarchic dynasty with extremely insidious tentacle-ties to some of the biggest corporate-criminal rackets going, in the energy/aerospace/military-defense/intelligence/security/communications/
pharmaceutical/R&D/banking/smuggling sectors,

As is self-evident, Bush's relative invincibility to accountability and legal obligation extends from the inordinate wealth, power and influence of his primary clients, the corporatocracy (world's biggest and/or most extensively-intricately connected/influential banks, combines, companies, associations, criminal syndicates, partnerships, etc.) who have essentially bribed, blackmailed, intimidated, co-opted, converted, or bought-off the mainstream media, Federal Courts and Law-officers/officials, members of Congress, and almost anybody else in a position to challenge the Bush Adminstration's legacy of extra-legal priveleges, abuse of power, corruption, fraud, duplicity, misfeasance, cover-up, distortions, racketeering, obstruction of justice, war-crimes, criminal negligence, treason, sedition, influence peddling, conspiracy to defraud, etc.etc.etc. -- AND hold it (them) accountable.

Most of us (reasonably well-read, concerned and interested and active in being aware of REAL contemporary history, parapolitics and current-events) know or at least strongly suspect much/all of this and even more, but it's too-often unacknowledged or by-passed -- as so many people focus on the person of Geo Bush --and perhaps some of his closest advisors and public officials-- as the sole source of the mess this nation is in and the many atrocious decisions that have consolidated wealth and power into tighter-and-tighter control by special interests, drastically reduced civil rights and Constitutional Protections, obscured Government decision-making and made the business of Government impenetrable to oversight or accountability, weakened environmental protections and regulatory authority, increasingly Militarized both Domestic and Foreign Policy, horribly mismanaged economic policy by accumulating vast additional unsecured Federal debt-obligations -- and on and on and on.

Ooops -- I don't mean to preach to the Choir - we all (here) have a pretty good idea of the serious problems and issues this nation, and the world, are faced with, which it sure seems like the Bush Gang -- and the Corporatocracy he represents -- have done hardly anything to help find meaningful, substantial long-term real solutions, and instead in many/most instances has arguably exacerbated major problems -- from ongoing ecocide and genocide, global violence, autocratic regimes and weakened democratic institutions, overdependance on oil resources, to resource-wars of exploitation, human rights abuses, human trafficing, drug/arms smuggling, ecosystem degradation, political corruption, low-intensity conflicts, and the cynical/manipulative and essentially fraudulent wars of drugs and terror.

The point is -- the whole system in which Bush is a self-important ego-driven unimaginative and relatively uniformed front-man, is thoroughly rotton and illegitimate, reflecting NONE of the attributes or characteristics embodied in the Constitution or Bill of Rights -- It's all become a massive hypocritical fraud, THAT'S the reality beneath the facade of 'normalcy' the Bush Gang strives to perpetuate.

In another thread, this is referred to, quite accurately, as the enormous grotesquery of our age.

Again-- Pardon me for stating the obvious. I guess the point I'm circling in on is -- That in light of how pervasive and endemic the modern issues of imbalance, denial, fraud, irresponsibility, unawareness, disenfranchisement, ignorance, futility, frustration, apathy, and narrow self-interest of people in society that confounds working collectively towards addressing the serious problems of our times, that the initiative and inspiration of Individuals is the CORE of the popular citizen's movement its gonna take to make viable, progressive change to the way we think and do 'business' -- basically, the Revolution is YOU (me, and US).

I'm real suspicious and leery, and downright critical of seemingly well-intended prescriptions or formulas for what "they" or "we" should do -- from, 'we shouldn't focus on this issue', 'that is gonna make us look stupid', 'we'd only be wasting our time talking about this', 'they're gonna use that as a platform to discredit us', 'we should do 'X' this', and so on and so forth -- Kinda like some of the criticism I read about on DU, and esp. on the Western White House thread there -- so typical of an assumption that the anti-Bush, anti-war, anti-status-quo, anti-Globalism, etc. movements are one cohesive, inified, core 'group' -- instead of a what it really is, a polyglot loose association of similiar (but not identical) values working on a BUNCH of identified common interests -- But with a LARGE number of ideas and motivations and unique qualities, as that's the strength of People Power -- that they can't be manipulated or controlled, allowing the unique contributions of individuals to create a very dynamic form to the expressions and actions people take. Perhaps a good analogy is -- Trying to Herd a group of Cats. It's probably one of the key attributes of people's movements that is the biggest headache to the status-quo, elites and rightwing Fascists, who at all times try to paint the opposition as a stereotypal single-identity Entity that they can then paint and target.

So: Keep ON with your personal takes on what IS important, don't let people distract you or put you down for not thinking with Group Mind focus, or to follow their X.Y,Z program of 'This is the way it should be done.'

In the People NOW Revolution, EVERYONE is a Leader.

And I still think, We Need Cindy Sheehan as President!
Regrdz;
Starman

i think it's an encroachment of corporate ethics into statesmanship and it's wrong wrong wrong. scary that people are too young or uneducated to know the diff. sure you don't harass the BOSS when he takes a month vacation during the busy season, or tell him to the face that 2-hour lunches are pissing everyone off. but chimpy ain't the boss of me. he's MY servant.

i read way too much nietzsche and marx for my own good -- but i've got a real chip on my shoulder about slavery. i don't like being made a slave. i want to tap people with slavish notions and say, "hey, yer off the clock, man." chill.

there is no democracy in the modern workplace. people think the modern workplace is the blueprint for how everything works. i've got news for them -- it doesn't even work so well in the workplace. this dominator model has to go.

what you point out about his monarchical swagger -- people get this. there's some mileage here about The People not gonna be taking it anymore. it's like the evangelicals have been doing for so many years: "oh, we are so persecuted. didn't you see the mel gibson movie? do you KNOW what they do to us!"

well, we are being taken out and flogged by a scurry monarch. we are fighting the same battles as 225 years ago. it's a rematch. don't bet on the monkey this time.

i loved everything you wrote -- and i started in on enoromous grotesquery. your writing reminds me of my ex-roomie, lisa (elizabeth on our blog.) here's something she just submitted to Metaphilm:
johnsoncity.blogspot.com/...-news.html
this will take you to her intro.

i still haven't read the new RI post all the way thru. i swear i didn't set out to cause so much trouble today.

Are you kidding me? You think trying to cast yourself as a victim supports your argument?
snip
You seem to be confused. It is you that has posted one bad legal argument over and over again along with things like a picture of Cindy Sheehan and a quote from the declaration of independence, neither of which even address your argument.
snip
Now you are just spinning like a top. What King George did is not in any way shape or form the same or similar to what Bush is doing. That is a false comparison. Also, Bush hasnt moved the seat of government. And we can access Bush just as well in Crawford as we could in the White House.
snip
Nowhere in our laws does it say all state business must be done in the white house. went thru and checked the profiles of some of the disrupters. 82cubsfan (whatever) claims to be a young dems leader. the reason i didn't join young dems (when i was young), and don't do county dems now, was/is that there are too many know-it-alls who couldn't apply democracy in face-to-face life. maybe he's a dem -- but he's an ass-dem (he has an assface, to quote Guffman). one of those devil's advocate people who think they do us a favor by having to fight for every detail of our frame.

but after the flamewar last nite i'm thinking it might not be so outrageous for someone to play nice for a 1000+ posts and get ruffled on something that otherwise wouldn't be controvsersial. i'm sure it's happened before.

i got into a frau with someone with the handle ProfessorGAC who compared feminism to rascism. the thread was on the Greatest page, "why has Feminism become a term of derision." i had a feeling that he didn't mean what he said, that it was just sloppy use of language. he PM'd me for a while which was creepy.

bottom line is this thread was super interesting b/c it i'm assuming (for the time being) that it outed some fair weather FRiends. interesting.

Re: Can we keep him, Mom? Can we?

Postby elsiecow » Fri Aug 19, 2005 3:05 pm
Guys, here is what is going on at DU:

Some of the people who appear to be the bad guys are not the bad guys at all. What they are doing is trolling to help catch the bad guys (and girls). For example, I got into a flame war with someone who turned out to be a really good guy. This is because the spies and even media types read the boards...it's like putting on a little show for them and setting a trap all at once.

The really nasty SOBs at DU take care to hide their obvious treachery.

Also, some people have outright stolen identities on that board - I know this because I know some people on the board, and I know that they would never say the things that were posted in their name. Screen name ID theft appears to be pretty rampant across the 'net right now - it's some right-wing corporate thing - they get script kiddies to do their dirty work for them. It has happened on nearly every board I've gone to, and in more than a few cases, someone has used a friend's name to say things that this friend of mine would never say! Forgery is old hat on usenet of course, so it's easier for usenet veterans to recognize. So that was yet another problem on DU - I'm not sure if they're still having it.

Does DU have a 'nanny' problem? I don't know, but it appears to have a 'ninny' problem, although I think it's getting better of late - the hate level and screeching on certain threads has abated considerably. That's how you know your board has been infiltrated - when people spend all of their time screaming at each other. Read up on the sixties movements - this is exactly what they did : they infiltrated and used provocateurs to foment conflict.

It's an old, old story in my family.
