AL, I think it's starting to sink in with most people in the beltway that Bush is finished. Even disregarding Fitzgerald and the GJ, his aproval ratings have been lingering around 40% for many months, and everything is pointing to the Dems retaking the House next year, after 11 years of Republican majority, so the GOP may have decided that it's time to distance themselves from Bush/Cheney in time for the elections. The radical neo-con agenda run out of steam the moment people started to realize that the Iraqi elections didn't mean the troops would come home, or that a democracy would be established, or the violence would subside. Short of impeachment, or assassination, Bush isn't going anywhere, but he isn't going to accomplish much either, for the rest of his term, with his own party against him.

I'm sure there are lots of rumors circulating about the things Fitzie is looking into, as well. It seems likely now, that Rove at least will be indicted.
Qutb means "axis," "pole," "the center," which contains the periphery or is present in it.
