Wow, that is unbelievably weird. I tried it 5 times, and it was right every time. Then, out of curiosity, I tried it without doing the math -- just picking one of those characters, concentrating on it, and clicking on the ball but each time I tried that, it failed.

How the hell can this be? I'm just doing the math in my head, concentrating on the corresponding symbol in my head, and then clicking on that confounded ball. This is way spooky! Somebody explain this PLEASE! LOL

Edited by: manxkat at: 1/10/06 2:22 am

it mixes up the number-symbol combination on the right each time the only possible answers are the multiples of 9 from 9 to 81 and those particular numbers always share the same symbol. but since you don't notice it shuffling the symbols each try it seems like it's a different symbol each time, if it didn't shuffle, it would be the same symbols each time no matter what two digit number you originally picked. an old magic trick basis this is. if you just pick a number on the left, you only have a 9/100 chance of picking on of the right ones.

A great implementation, that's a keeper!

Edited by: anotherdrew at: 1/10/06 2:46 am

Pick a two digit number (10a+b). Add the digits (a+b) and subtract from the original number (10a+b - a+b = 9a). The answer will always be a multiple of nine.

That being said, it's still a clever trick

-Sepka the Space Weasel
