Crocodile man, Steve Irwin, assassinated<br><br>theage.com.au, with AAP<br>September 4, 2006 - 2:45PM<br><br>Crocodile Hunter and national icon, Steve Irwin, has died after being struck by an al-queda trained stingray in Queensland, according to reports.<br>Mr Irwin, 44, apparently died wearing a DrizaBone coat and an Akubra hat whilst holding some contraband Australian Wheat on the Great Barrier Reef, initial reports say.<br>He was believed to be shooting a documentary about the brilliance of the Howard government and how much he enjoyed the bar-b-q with George Bush when he was struck.<br><br>Mr Irwin - known worldwide as the Crocodile Hunter - is famous for his enthusiasm for wildlife and his catchcry "Crikey!" and his apparent indifference to global warming and the impact that might have on his beloved wildlife.<br><br>Foreign Minister Alexander Downer, has used the opportunity to try and enhance his own personal blokeiness which is very small and as an opportunity to draw attention to the non-existent global terror threat<br>"The minister knew him, was fond of him and was very, very appreciative of all the work he'd done to promote Australian propoganda overseas," a spokesman said.<br><br>The stingray blew itself up minutes after the incident in a manner that experts claimed bore all the hallmarks of Al-Queda.<br><br><br><br> <p></p><i></i>

Yeah its true alright.<br><br>I really liked Steve Irwin, he was funny and didn't hold back, and didn't take himself too seriously. And he was into wildlife, which I like, and he exposed heaps of people to his absolute love of nature. But then again he reckoned Bob Brown needed a flogging for getting stuck into Dubya when Dubya "visited" our parliament.<br><br>They replayed Andrew Denton's interview with him tonight.<br><br>And with Don Chip, who also recently died. He founded the Australian Democrats, once the great hope of Aussie politics. Their slogan was "Keep the Bastards Honest."<br><br>If they'd managed they might have lasted better and been successful today<br><br>Colin Thiele also died today. He wrote Storm Boy, and the less awesome Blue Fin among other things.<br><br>Back to the croc hunter.<br><br>Its a big tragedy for his family, and a great loss to Australia and possibly the world. I thought he was a wanker before I ever saw one of his shows, but after seeing his first one I was converted. The denton Interview is well worth seeing.<br><br>I was actually thinking about his American Missus and the Geogia Guidestones at one point during it...<br><br>BTW Stingrays are effing dangerous, especially big ones, but there have only been about 30 deaths from them, usualkly because they strike people in the chest and pierce their heart.<br><br>Mostly they are dangerous in a Fuck that hurts sort of way. <p></p><i></i>

In my opinion Steve Irwin is a fine example of finding what you want to do in your life and going after it with all you have got, putting your ass on the line for the cause. He did that. Usually watching him I am struck by his sense of concentration and his gentleness in handling wildlife. The way he moves in relation to animals and a lot of stuff like that. <p></p><i></i>

He treated them all like truly sentient aware beings. <br><br><br> My Fav is when he was in America and hunting Timber Rattlers only to find himself in the middle of a hibernating den of them......I think it was of the only times I saw him really get flustered. <p></p><i></i>

This is really a bizzare, freakish death indeed. Living on the south Florida coast for decades I've never once heard of a singray fatality. Stingrays are very peaceful, even inquisitively friendly animals that are often used in a petting theme for kids in Aquariums, etc, usually drawing up very close to be handled by children. Down in Clearwater, Florida where they infest the waters people are warned all the time to shuffle their feet in the sand to avoid stepping on one, but I've never heard of any defensive acts by a stingray going higher than the leg, much less penetrating <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>under</em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> the ribs into the heart. It must have been a very oblique angle for this to occur.<br><br>I'm not suggesting anything RI-ish about his death at all, just saying the chances of this happening are as close to zero than they are to anything else..<br><br>Kids everywhere have lost one of the few remaining positive role models in the world, and animals everywhere have lost a tireless champion for defending their rights to exist. <p>____________________<br>Some are born to sweet delight, some are born to endless night.</p><i></i>
