Ex-FBI agent, daughter charged with murdering woman's husband
Published January 05, 2016

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/01/05/fo ... r-two.html

A North Carolina woman and her former FBI agent father have been charged in the August murder of the woman's husband.

Molly Martens Corbett, a 31-year-old former model, and her father, retired FBI agent Thomas Michael Martens, were charged with second-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter in the death of Corbett's husband in August, according to grand jury indictments unsealed Monday.

“It was an extremely thorough investigation,” Davidson County Sheriff David Grice told The-Dispatch newspaper Monday. “We are pleased with the decision of the grand jury."

Authorities found 39-year-old Jason Paul Corbett, of County Limerick, Ireland, with fatal head injuries when they responded to a 911 call about an assault just after 3 a.m. on Aug. 2 at Corbett's Davidson County, N.C., home.

According to police reports obtained by The-Dispatch, the caller, believed to be 65-year-old Martens, told a Davidson County 911 operater he had been in an argument with his son-in-law and struck him with a baseball bat.

Corbett and Martens, of Knoxville, Tenn., were immediately identified as persons of interest in the case.

Jason Corbett had two young children from a prior marriage. His first wife, Margaret Fitzpatrick Corbett, died in November 2006 of a sudden asthma attack, according to the Winston-Salem Journal. Corbett married Martens in 2011.

Corbett's death caused a bitter custody battle between Molly Martens Corbett and her late husband's family in Ireland. The children’s aunt and uncle in Ireland ultimately gained custody, according to multiple media reports.

Mike Earnest,, Molly Martens Corbett's uncle, told UTV Ireland that the two are expected to claim self-defense, arguing their actions were necessary and justified.

Earnest released a statement to the media Monday, saying, “I have known Tom Martens for 44 years and Molly since she was born 32 years ago; there are no finer people

A volunteer civilian review board would
set and enforce standards for the Criminal Justice
system.

This board would be comprised of voters and
taxpayers who would decide how their
taxes would be spent for community safety
needs.

The board would completely change every three years.

The Washington Post is the official Public Relations firm representing the FBI
in Wasington DC.

After all that is where deep throat went to exposè Watergate when Nixon
passed him over for promotion.

Also note the Washington Post and the rest of MSM Nain Steam Media
were conspicously absent from covering the 1999 Memphis Trial of the Century
where attorney William Pepper was able to convince the jury FBI agents had murdered
Martin Luther King.

Yes FBI agents also assassinated President Kennedy
and his brother Robert Kennedy.

Shhhh! Don't let any of the Militia Groups and
Patriot Groups hear about this.
The might occupy the men's room at Disneyworld in protest.
Besides they are busy now working for the Koch brothers

FBI agents place their lives on the line for Americans

Regarding Frank Askin’s Jan. 1 Washington Forum commentary, “Thanks for the surveillance, J. Edgar”:

The FBI gained greater authority to investigate civil rights matters with the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. After the law’s enactment, investigations revealed that the Soviet KGB, using the Communist Party USA, had infiltrated the civil rights movement in an effort to disrupt U.S. domestic stability and negatively influence U.S. foreign policy.

FBI special agents dedicated their lives to ensure that the movement was not deterred nor covertly influenced by foreign intelligence services; I would have sacrificed my life to further the movement’s cause. Under the leadership of FBI director J. Edgar Hoover and directors after him, FBI special agents did and continue to place their lives on the line every day to guarantee the constitutional rights of all Americans without fail.

An unassuming single mom from New Jersey who’s never worked in law enforcement cracked the case against Lindley DeVecchio, finding the mother lode of evidence that led to charges against the ex-FBI agent.

Brooklyn prosecutor Michael Vecchione introduced Angela Clemente, 40, following a sensational press conference last week announcing DeVecchio’s indictment. The former G-man helped rub out rivals of mob kingpin Gregory Scarpa Sr, prosecutors say.

Vecchione privately credited Clemente for sparking Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes’ probe.

“See that woman over there. She’s the Pandora’s box,” Vecchione said, pointing to the unlikely gumshoe who opened a treasure trove of dirty secrets about DeVecchio and Scarpa.

But the woman of the hour turned away from the spotlight.

A Mafia Captain Turned Informer Gets a Reduced Prison Term

JAN. 5, 2016

During their hour-and-a-half outdoor sessions at the super-maximum security prison in Florence, Colo., Gregory Scarpa Jr. struck up a friendship with an important prisoner: Terry L. Nichols, the co-conspirator of the Oklahoma City bombing.

At the time, in 2005, Mr. Scarpa was eager to reduce his sentence of 482 months (40 years). The Colombo captain, a gangster whose father was a violent enforcer for the crime family, had been convicted in Federal District Court in Brooklyn of a racketeering case that included charges of conspiracy to commit murder, tax evasion and illegal gambling. Mr. Scarpa’s prison yard conversations with Mr. Nichols led to a cache of hidden explosives, an embarrassment for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and a chain of litigation that resulted in a decision on Monday by a federal judge in Brooklyn. The judge, Edward R. Korman of United States District Court, shaved 10 years off Mr. Scarpa’s sentence in a decision that castigated both the F.B.I. and the United States attorney’s office in Brooklyn for its “implausible, contradictory, and factually unsupported reasons” for opposing a lighter sentence for Mr. Scarpa.
Document: Letter From Terry Nichols on Hidden Explosives

Mr. Scarpa did not have a great track record as an informer. Years earlier, he had provided information on a jailmate Ramzi Yousef, the chief organizer of the 1993 World Trade Center bomber, but the government said nothing came of the disclosures. At Mr. Scarpa’s sentencing in 1999 in the racketeering case, a prosecutor said the tip about Mr. Yousef was “a scam” that resulted in “wild goose chases.” A judge sentenced Mr. Scarpa to 40 years, on top of the 20 he was serving for another racketeering case.

In 2005, Mr. Scarpa said, he told prison officials he knew that Mr. Nichols had stashed explosives in his old house. Nothing happened. Mr. Scarpa told agents from the F.B.I. Nothing happened.

It was only after private investigators contacted by Mr. Scarpa sent multiple letters to congressional representatives and to the National Security Council alerting them to the information that the F.B.I. acted on the tip, according to court documents. Agents had already searched Mr. Nichols’s house multiple times. This time, they found the explosives in a crawl space, right where Mr. Scarpa’s tip indicated they would be. News coverage called it a “new embarrassment to an F.B.I. already burned by missteps in this case,” and a congressional inquiry ensued.

Mr. Scarpa got the information through a “sting,” as he put it, according to notes from, and interviews of, Mr. Scarpa summarized by one of the private investigators. Mr. Scarpa said he would pay Mr. Nichols for revealing the location of the explosives, and pass that on to a private investigator, who would examine the material for fingerprints and DNA. Mr. Nichols thought the evidence would link a man who testified against him, Roger Moore, to the bombing.

“I have kept my word — TLN” reads one letter Mr. Scarpa said Mr. Nichols wrote to him. The letter, dated March 2005, describes a crawl space in the basement of Mr. Nichols’s house, with two piles of rocks. “Under the south pile is my ammo can. Under the north are the 2 cardboard boxes wrapped in plastic. Simply remove the rocks,” it says.

There were several other letters that Mr. Scarpa said were from Mr. Nichols, discussing, among other things, the pronunciation of Mr. Nichols’s first and second wives’ names; how to use acupressure to handle pain; the mislabeling of “non-dairy creamer” in the prison; his view that “God is a vengeful God”; and a complaint of “a big gap of communications between you and I.”

In March 2005, Mr. Scarpa met with one F.B.I. agent, then two. An agent said that he “can easily see that all these notes are from one person (me),” according to the investigator’s summary of Mr. Scarpa’s comments. “He said it’s some kind of scam.”

Mr. Scarpa turned to private investigators. Throughout March 2005, those investigators contacted congressional representatives and staff members with the information. By the end of March, one congressman pressured the F.B.I. to investigate Mr. Scarpa’s tip, according to Judge Korman’s decision.

On April 2, F.B.I. agents searched Mr. Nichols’s house. The Associated Press reported that they had searched the home several times before and had missed the explosives.

Mr. Scarpa’s campaign for a lower sentence began then, and continued until Monday.

Usually, prosecutors recommend reducing the sentence of a defendant who has helped the government. However, Judge Korman wrote that is subject to judicial review, which he did with some vigor in his opinion.

Prosecutors had opposed a reduction of Mr. Scarpa’s sentence, arguing that he had obstructed justice in the past by lying on the stand at his trial, “through his alleged ‘sham’ cooperation in the Yousef case,” and by embellishing the information about Mr. Nichols, Judge Korman wrote. These claims, he wrote, were “vague and not supported by the facts.”

The judge asked an F.B.I. agent who interviewed Mr. Scarpa in March 2005 to provide an affidavit about what happened. Some of what the agent, who was not named, wrote is “flatly incorrect,” the judge found. For instance, the agent said Mr. Scarpa’s tip had not provided the basis for an F.B.I. warrant, yet the search had been a consent search and there had been no warrant.

Judge Korman also criticized an assistant United States attorney working on the case, Patricia E. Notopoulos. This is, he wrote, “an apparent case of the AUSA relying on faulty and inaccurate information provided by the F.B.I. to deny Scarpa sentencing relief based on his substantial assistance.”

“It is difficult to ignore the fact that the information Scarpa provided embarrassed the F.B.I.,” he wrote.

Nellin McIntosh, a spokeswoman for the United States attorney’s office, declined to comment.

STARTLING evidence that Adolf Hitler faked his own death and fled to the Brit-favoured holiday island of Tenerife has been revealed by a former UN war crimes investigator.

Working from 700 pages of newly declassified FBI files, respected investigator John Cencich has concluded the Nazi leader did not commit suicide with new wife Eva Braun in the Führerbunker as previously believed.

Carl Jung: OSS Spy #488, 1942-1945
Iona Miller, (c)2015, Illustration by Iona Miller

In Allen Dulles: Master of Spies (1999), James Scrodes mentions his professional and personal involvement with Swiss psychologist Carl Jung. Deidre Bair reported further on Jung's covert affairs as Office of Strategic Services (OSS) Agent #488 in Jung, a Biography (2003).

During WWII, Carl Jung was recruited by Allen Dulles, through OSS spy Mary Bancroft, to provide strategic psychological profiles on Hitler, Mussolini, and the German psyche for the Allies. She published her Autobiography of a Spy in 1983.

Dulles, who ran the proto-CIA, met on several occasions with Jung, who provided valuable insight into the workings of Hitler's mind. They shared other interests and knew personal secrets about one another. Jung may have sparked an interest in ESP, handwriting analysis and psychic drugs in Dulles, even UFOs.

Jung was an architect of a dynamic model of the psyche that helped him frame actors and potential outcomes. His psychological intuitions and nationalistic heuristics and unique ability to assess HUMINT (human intelligence sources and reports) were useful to the espionage establishment. Human nature is crucial to running assets.

Raw HUMINT has to be process for the intelligence community and battlefield. HUMINT is essential preparation for working in and on cultures as well as character studies and differentiation of subject types for selecting potential sources. Social sciences are critical to cultural intelligence.

Who knows how much crucial information Jung may have imparted to Dulles in their casual talks? Rapport, defenses, and projection are a few of Jung's subjects that may have helped structure modern tradecraft, agent operation and propaganda. Powerful information is created by knowing which archetypes are in play and the primal responses they generate in the targets.

HUMINT has shaped foreign policy decisions throughout history, so insight on how humans operate is useful in recruiting, interviewing, interrogating and debriefing, as well as assessing authenticity, intentions and motivations. General Eisenhower read Jung's report before the final invasion of Germany, when Hitler's machinations, delusional systems, and paranoia were driven by a cocktail of mindbending drugs. Jung successfully predicted that Hitler would kill himself. Jung's profiles of Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini are in C.G. Jung Speaking, Bollingen Press (1978).

We can use Jung's method to free associate about the meaning of Agent 488: Conspiracy-minded qabalists and symbologists might note the Jewish gematria of 488 includes "Truth," "The Mark of the Beast," and "The Great Dragon," "Serpent's Head," "Satan Speaks," "Lord is rising," "Time to break free," "Ancient Bloodlines." It also implies "to open, to throw open, to untie, to loosen or opening, entrance, doorway, gate, portal," etc. All that makes some symbolic sense in relation to Jung's advocacy of the nature of the Collective Unconscious. He certainly opened that portal to the vast Unknown conceptually and experientially, with all its gods, ghosts, spirits and devils.

Curiously, the #55 assigned to Dulles reads, "Everything Comes from The One" which it certainly did in OSS/CIA. It is also the number of the Elohim, the endtime Elijah, called Elias for those with a biblical view. Adding them yields 543, curiously the number for I AM THAT I AM. The less psychological could see the hand of God at work. Naturally, such ruminations might turn your brain to hyperdimensional jello.

Rather than gathering clandestine information, Jung was a profiler, debriefer, and analyst producing assessments of foreign leaders (motivations, capability, plans, and intentions) and political situations for policy makers, targeting opportunities for intelligence operations. Today that would be called Counterterrorism. Bair also reveals that one of Hitler's doctors entreated Jung to observe Hitler in Germany to declare him insane, so he could be ousted by opponents.

Framing Jung

If we "profile the profiler," we find visionaries and spies share some of the same traits that ultimately mold worldviews and events. Jung's introverted thinking and intuition somehow mirrored that of Dulles's powers of observation and analysis. Both mercurial personalities shared the Promethean temperament and were adept at prognostication, quick and accurate anecdotal evidence and network analysis with fast rational solutions to manipulate and define the perceived reality. Both worked sub rosa, beneath the veil of professional confidentiality and realized the occult, or at least belief in the occult, was one key to world events.

Both opportunistic tricksters enjoyed building systems and theoretical frameworks, including vulnerabilities and risk management. "Keying" a strip of activity facilitates its transformation into another pattern. "Fabrication" supports the intentional exploration of scenarios with specific outcomes to manage activity and induce false beliefs about what is going on. There are "benign" and "exploitative" frames in espionage and psychopathic manipulation. By its very nature, espionage creates real and fabricated frames. "Keyed frames" are subject to failure through perceptual errors, intervening natural events, and ambiguity. If the deceived discover the frame they may reorganize their covert activity. The expanded threat frame leads to countermeasure -- counterintelligence.

A frame describes the principles of organizations that govern events and our subjective involvement in them against the spatial and temporal field. Framing, an operational theory, is essential to analysis, as political framing is to espionage. One social framework can transform into others. You must to have a grasp of the threat landscape to frame the right questions. Framed strips of activity feed into tracks or channels of a main story at the center of the frame. Subordinate paths include concealed, overlaid and overlooked lines. Frame analysis can also be viewed as concentric layers, like an onion skin -- a metaphor Jung employed to describe the depths of the psyche.

According to Bair, when Allen Dulles entered Switzerland in November 1942 he was secretly working as an “advance man” for the U.S. Office of Strategic Services (OSS) in Switzerland. (Dulles would later head the CIA.) “For some time, Jung became Dulles’s ‘sort of senior advisor on a weekly, if not almost daily, basis.’” The following year, “Jung became ‘Agent 488’ in Dulles’s reports to OSS offices in Washington and London, and 488’s dispatches were considered fact and figured prominently in the agency’s operational policies.” Dulles said Jung “[understood] the characteristics of the sinister leaders of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. His judgment on these leaders and on their likely reactions to passing events was of real help to me in gauging the political situation. His deep antipathy to what Nazism and Fascism stood for was clearly evidenced in these conversations.” In fact, Jung constructed the first in-depth psychological profiles of political enemies such as Hitler. “By 1945 […] Jung’s views on how best to get [German] civilians to accept defeat were being read by the Supreme Allied Commander, General Dwight D. Eisenhower. Jung’s analysis of Nazi propaganda was that it tried ‘to hollow out a moral hole with the hope of eventual collapse.’” Ibid., pp. 492-494. http://www.tygersofwrath.com/00jung2001review.htm

http://clinicalpsychreading.blogspot.co ... agent.html
During World War II, Allen returned to the Bern embassy, putting his mistress's psychoanalyst, Carl Jung, to work for the Allied cause, recruiting a senior official of the German foreign office, tapping into the ill-fated conspiracy to kill Hitler, and playing a part in the surrender of the Nazi armies in Italy.

Mary Bancroft (October 29, 1903, Boston - January 10, 1997, New York City) was an American novelist and spy and a member of the Bancroft family, which at one time owned Dow Jones & Company. In 1942, while living in Switzerland, Bancroft was recruited by the Office of Strategic Services, and both worked and had a romantic relationship with Allen Dulles. Her most important work was with Hans Bernd Gisevius, a German military intelligence officer who supplied her with details of the 20 July plot to assassinate Hitler. After the war, Bancroft settled in New York and became a novelist. She moved to Zurich, Switzerland in 1934, where she learned excellent French and German, and became a close friend and student of Carl Jung, who cured her of chronic attacks of sneezing.

Bancroft, despite appearing to be exceptionally extroverted, suffered silently from asthma and violent sneezing fits. She suspected they were psychosomatic and brought on by emotional turmoil. She sought out the celebrated psychologist Carl Jung, who cured her through analysis and became a lifelong friend. Her relationship with Jung was summarized in her New York Times obituary: "To Jung … her appeal was textbook obvious. In his scheme of things she was an extroverted intuitive, one who had experienced such fierce inter-family battles for her affections as a child that power had become her natural element. She had such an instinctive knack for wielding it, [Jung] told her, that men seeking or holding power would cherish her advice, as indeed they did." The list of Bancroft's male consorts over time included film director Woody Allen, Time, Inc. CEO Henry R. Luce, and Allen Dulles, who laid the foundations of what would become known as the Central Intelligence Agency. Bancroft's interactions with Jung fostered a lifelong interest in psychology, and she often lectured on Jung and others in his field when she had the chance. She also became a trustee of the Jung Foundation in New York after his death, and a contributing editor and writer for Psychological Perspectives , a Jungian academic journal.

Dulles once impatiently told Mary, “I don’t want to go down in history as a footnote to a case of Jung’s!” In 1944-45, Henry Hyde took four trips to see Allen Dulles in Switzerland to loan Dulles, a POW Czech radio operator named Wally, for Operation Sunrise. On one of these trips, Hyde traveled from Lyon to just inside the Swiss border where he was met by car by Mary Bancroft. Mary got out of the car; kissed Henri on both cheeks, and drove off in another car with a man. Hyde drove Mary’s car to the Geneva Airport, picked up Paul Mellon (O.S.S.-MO) who had just flown in from England. Hyde drove Mellon to a beautiful old hotel overlooking Lausanne where Jung was waiting for him upstairs in a hotel room. Mellon's mission was to hear Jung's psychoanalysis of Hitler's mind and the German collective unconscious. Hyde waited for Mellon in the hotel lobby, then drove Mellon back after his meeting with Jung. Paul and Mary Mellon had been patients of Jung’s since 1938. Mellon wanted to see Jung again during the war; family therapy revisited. Paul and Mary, husband-wife patients of Jung, had raved to their brother-in-law OSS Station Chief London, David Bruce, who had married Paul’s sister Aisle, about Jungian psychoanalysis."

Famed attorney Alan Dershowitz has retained former President Bill Clinton’s FBI director to help show Clinton was not present at alleged sex orgies thrown by his former client, a convicted pedophile and close Clinton friend.

Clinton’s friendship with a convicted child sex predator, Jeffrey Epstein, again is coming under increased scrutiny, thanks in part to a recent civil lawsuit for defamation filed in Florida against Dershowitz by representatives for two of Epstein’s alleged victims. Dershowitz served as Epstein’s lawyer during Epstein’s criminal criminal.

Not only has Bill Clinton’s name come up in the court proceedings, but Dershowitz, one of the key figures in the case, says that he cannot conclusively deny that Clinton was present at lavish sex orgies thrown on a Caribbean island by Epstein. What’s more, one of the victims said that Bill Clinton in fact was present at an Epstein island orgy.

Epstein pleaded guilty in 2008 to soliciting prostitution from a minor. Though he was represented at trial by Dershowitz, he still had to serve 13 months in prison on an 18-month sentence.

Flight logs also connect Clinton as they show he made multiple trips on Epstein’s private plane, including a September 2002 jaunt to Africa with actor buddies Kevin Spacey and Chris Tucker. So does Epstein accuser Virginia Roberts, who claimed that she was used as a sex slave by Epstein and his friends, said that she met Bill Clinton on one of his trips with Epstein when she was only seventeen, but that she did not have sex with him.

Super-lawyer and Clinton and Epstein pal Dershowitz recently testified in circuit court in Broward County, Florida. Transcripts of his testimony reveal that Clinton administration FBI chief Louis Freeh has been called in to run interference. Freeh served as FBI director from 1993 to 2001, during almost the entirety of the Clinton presidency.

Freeh is representing Dershowitz , who recently has been at the center of civil claims involving allegations that he had sex with underage women on Epstein’s private plane and at parties on Epstein’s private island, including at times when Clinton also was on the island.

“Well, we have made a Freedom of Information request,” Dershowitz testified. “My — my attorney in New York, Louis Freeh, the former head of the FBI, has made a FOIA request for all information

Transnational Gangs
Part 2: Countering the Threat with Strong Partnerships

01/11/16

At the start of the FBI’s recent Central American Law Enforcement Exchange (CALEE) program, participants from U.S. police departments and their counterparts from Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Belize, and Panama were strangers, but they shared one thing in common: a commitment to make their communities safe from violent gangs such as MS-13 and 18th Street.

By the end of the three-week program, the men and women had overcome language barriers and become friends as well as partners—and they were armed with new resources to fight the transnational gang threat: a network of intelligence sharing, expanded contacts, and access to FBI-led task forces throughout Central America.

“There’s a synergy between the gangs that helps them grow and become stronger,” said Special Agent Jason Kaplan, the FBI’s legal attaché in El Salvador. “As law enforcement, we need to develop that same relationship with each other, because the gangs are doing it, and if we don’t we are going to fall behind.”

CALEE was developed in 2009 with that spirit of collaboration and partnership in mind. This year’s group of nearly 40 participants traveled to Los Angeles and Houston before spending a final week in El Salvador, where the MS-13 and 18th Street

Overview of FBI Documents on SOAW

Click here to view the released documents that we obtained from the FBI.

Read articles about the FBI spying on SOA Watch from Telesur English, the National Catholic Reporter, Alternet, KGNU Radio, LA Information, and blogger Nancy Wheeler, and watch a video interview with Hendrik Voss by the Real News Network.

Summary of obtained FBI documents

What was requested: At our request, Washington DC justice lawyer Mara Verheyden-Hilliard made written demand on the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), for copies of all FBI records on the School of the Americas Watch organization (SOAW).

What was produced: Over 420 pages of documents were produced by the FBI covering the period from 2000 to 2010. Over 75 pages of documents were withheld by the FBI.

What did the FBI documents show? For years, the FBI reported and compiled annual files on the SOAW protest while at the same time repeatedly describing the event and the organization as peaceful. For many years, these reports were sent to the Counterterrorism division of the FBI. The FBI sought out and used undercover informants to seek information about the group and its actions. The FBI had undercover FBI agents in attendance for at least two years. The FBI reports demonstrate a close working relationship with Columbus Police Department, Muscogee County Sheriff’s Department and Georgia State Police. The reports also show the annual protest was designated by the FBI as a Special Events Readiness Level (SERL) event which involved coordination of law enforcement with the US Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security.

Next steps

SOAW is appealing the FBI’s withholding of responsive material from the public including additional documents as well as redactions and deletions in the materials provided. The FBI response indicated that U.S. Army Intelligence also participated in this surveillance operation and we are filing a relevant FOIA request for responsive material. These documents also indicate there are a large number of documents in the hands of local law enforcement as well and this will be followed up.

What is the importance of these documents? FBI agents, including Counterterrorism agents, have for years been surveilling, reporting and gathering intelligence on First Amendment protected political speech and actions of the SOAW movement. This is despite the fact that the FBI repeatedly describes our actions as peaceful. The FBI and its Counterterrorism Division have surveilled SOAW just as they have members of the Black Lives Matter movement, the Occupy Movement and various parts of the peace and justice movements for years. SOAW will not allow the government to intimidate or silence our movement for human rights. We call on Congress to review these actions, hold the FBI accountable, and take corrective action. We stand for justice and human rights with our sisters and brothers across the world and like them we will not be silenced.

Highlights of Documents produced by the FBI

2000 – July 10, 2001. The FBI opened a case file on the SOAW in July of 2000 after thousands of people entered onto Ft. Benning pursuant to a nonviolent protest in fall of 1999. The FBI report of the Atlanta office states: “It is hereby recommended a case be opened and maintained as part of an ongoing process at Ft. Benning. The protest has been building for the past ten years. At times the participants have caused damage to government properties. The leadership of this organization have promised a non-violent protest at any organized event.” A report on November 20, 2000 indicates an unnamed source advised the FBI that people associated with the World Trade Organization protests planned to attend the protest and “if attacks were to take place, the planning would be at a gathering a quarter of a mile from the main gate on Saturday November 18, 2000.”

From 2000 – 2010 FBI officers reported on each SOAW protest. Reports demonstrate close working relationship with Columbus Police Department, Muscogee County Sheriff’s Department and Georgia State Police. Reports included estimates of the numbers of people attending the protest and the names and numbers of those arrested.

2001 – Correspondence between various FBI offices about Oberlin College student arrested at protest.

November 13, 2001 FBI Pre-protest report that Columbus Police Department (CPD) and Muscogee County Sheriff Office (MCSO) “have collected uncorroborated, non-sourced intelligence that allegedly anarchist elements will travel to Columbus to cause problems.” Discussion of anthrax hoax preparedness. Request that “all agents contact appropriate sources regarding travel to this event by known criminals regarding any planned actions in conjunction with the protest.” A FBI note on November 15, 2001 states “This is being forwarded to the Atlanta Bomb Techs as the possibility of a hoax device or bomb threat also exists. Local and military assets are available to handle same…”

2003 – In 2003, the FBI started to report on the event to the COUNTERTERRORISM DIVISION. On October 14, 2003, in a memo designated PRIORITY, the FBI reported on the protest to Counterterrorism Division “The leaders of the SOA Watch have taken strides to impart upon the protest participants that the protest should be a peaceful event.” The FBI report also noted “The primary issue of the protest is the funding and training by the Department of Defense (DOD) and the Department of State of Latin American military officers at the Ft. Benning, GA military installation. This event draws protestors who object to human rights violation conducted in these countries, and more specifically, to the event in which a group of Catholic missionaries were murdered in Central America.” FBI Headquarters and Counterterrorism were requested to provide the Atlanta FBI office “with all intelligence relevant to the SOA, so that this information can be provided to local/military law enforcement agencies.”

October 23, 2003 in another memo to FBI Counterterrorism, the Atlanta FBI requested that the Miami Division of the Domestic Terrorism Intelligence Squad, provide any and all information on Anti-Free Trade area of The Americas Anarchist Movement protest. The FBI was “concerned that factions of a radical cell will travel to [the protest] and may implement or instigate violent and destructive behavior.” If contained in Miami, “this may encourage factions of the protestors to travel to Columbus/Ft Benning to assert themselves in what may be viewed as a softer target of opportunity.” The past has been mostly peaceful. Any advance warning to the CRA of a group or groups of more aggressive protest participants …is imperative.” Representatives of the Columbus Police Department and the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office went to Miami to see how police there handled protest. The memo concludes by saying “The Columbus Police and military authorities have successfully controlled approximately ten thousand, mostly peaceful protestors in past years. Any advance warning …of a group or groups of more aggressive protest participants planning to continue their acts of civil disobedience in Columbus/Ft. Benning is imperative.” The FBI after protest report to Counterterrorism, dated December 29, 2003 noted “Other than the cited compliant trespassers, the even was peaceful. The arrestees did not resist being taken into custody. It has been and apparently continues to be the agenda of the SOA Watch to use the court system as the platform for furthering their cause. ..Overall the crowd was peaceful in their actions and the SOA Watch leadership appear to foster that type of environment.” They also noted the Columbus Police videotaped the entire event.

2004 – In September 2004 the FBI communicated with a confidential source in the Northeast US more than once about SOAW. The informant told the FBI that “SOA Watch has called out for more individuals and affinity groups to attend this year’s protest.” The source also shared a “compiled manual for affinity groups, with telephone number of Legal Advisor from Loyola University (Louisiana)” and provided the FBI with the names and email addresses of relevant contact persons associated with the SOA Watch group.

On October 8, 2004, the FBI asked Counterterrorism to prove “any and all intelligence particularly from any inside sources who are involved in the protest planning. This information will be provided to local authorities for their planning purposes.”

A FBI memo to Counterterrorism dated November 30, 2004 stated “This year’s protest was peaceful as it has been for the most part over the past fifteen years. The only change of note was the inability of the police to use hand wands to check for metal and weapons. The Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals had ruled this was a violation of the protestors’ constitutional rights.”

2005 – On September 8, 2005, there is a FBI report by Confidential Informant who said SOAW wanted mass crossing the line in nonviolent cd to overwhelm the base resources and tie up the judicial system. The CI identified one person: “Individual identified BLANK as an organizer intending to cross the line. BLANK was said to belong to a group called “Witness for Peace.” Individual said that BLANK is, or was a Maryknoll nun.” Informant also reported much of the organizing is originating from Twin Ports SOA Watch and gave the name and address of organizer who was schedule to speak at Oxford College on September 20, 2005.”

October 3, 2005, the FBI requested that the SOAW protest be designated a Special Events Readiness Level (SERL). SERL events involve coordination between local law and state law enforcement, the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency with the US Secret Service designated as the lead agency.[1] The memo states the FBI and others will provide intelligence to local police and military personnel that may impact the security of the event. The FBI also requested intelligence regarding the SOA and promised to provide intelligence to the Columbus Resident Agency. “The peaceful intentions of the SOA Watch leaders has been demonstrated over the years. The concern has always been that a militant group would infiltrate the protestors and use of the cover of the crowd to create problems. At this time, there are no specific or known threats to this event.”

2006 – October 10, 2006 FBI report to Counterterrorism contained information on threat assessment from intelligence and open source reporting and BLANKED OUT. Report dated October 12, 2006 indicates the FBI talked with confidential informant who reported “there was a group organizing direct action and there were individuals committed to taking their cause to the close the SOA directly onto the base. International and national organizing in other places was also reported including Fort Huachuca and Colorado. Individuals from all over the US are planning to attend plus a large contingent from Canada.” In the FBI report on the 2006 protest, they noted that the Army blasting of music to interfere with the protest, led the police to complain that they could not hear each other.

2007 – October 3, 2007 FBI report to Counterterrorism noted the captioned event as a Special Events Readiness Level. Appears to follow the 2005 report promising to provide intelligence to local police and military, noting the peaceful intentions of the SOA Watch leaders and admitting there were no specific or known threats to this event.

2009 – On November 13, 2009 the FBI reported “There have never been any significant incidents of violence or widespread property damage in connection with this event.” They also noted that undercover FBI agents will be in attendance again. “As in 2008, a small contingent of FBI personnel, acting in an undercover capacity, will be present to monitor the activities of predicated subjects of FBI-Minneapolis, who are expected to attend. These subjects have never expressed or exhibited a propensity for violence at any time….Due to the nature of this investigation and the fact that undercover employees need to maintain their cover, local and state law enforcement will not be notified in advance of their presence at this open and public event.”

Exposed: FBI Surveillance of School of the Americas Watch
by Mara Verheyden-Hilliard of the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund

FBI used counter-terrorism authority to track pacifist human rights group for 10 years

For a decade, the FBI flagrantly abused its counter-terrorism authority to conduct a widespread surveillance and monitoring operation of School of Americas Watch (SOAW), a nonviolent activist organization founded by pacifists with the aim of closing the U.S. Army’s School of the Americas (now renamed) and ending the U.S. role in the militarization of Latin America.

Hundreds of pages of documents obtained by the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund, on behalf of SOAW, once again reveal the FBI’s functioning as a political surveillance and intelligence operation and its use of its domestic terrorism authority against peaceful protest in the United States.

SOAW organizes annual protests in Fort Benning, Ga., the site where the U.S. Army has trained many of the military leaders and dictators in Latin America who were responsible for massacres of opposition forces and the creation of torture centers, among other

Police Intimidation: From Dalton Trumbo to Deep Green Resistance

http://www.counterpunch.org/2016/01/13/ ... esistance/

2016-01-12

Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Homeland Security agents have contacted more than a dozen members of Deep Green Resistance (DGR), a radical environmental group, including one of its leaders, Lierre Keith, who said she has been the subject of two visits from the FBI at her home.

The FBI’s most recent contact with a DGR member occurred Jan. 8 when two FBI agents visited Rachael “Renzy” Neffshade at her home in Pittsburgh, Pa. The FBI agents began the visit by asking her questions about a letter she had sent several months earlier to Marius Mason, an environmental activist who was sentenced in 2009 to almost 22 years in prison for arson and property damage.

Neffshade told CounterPunch she refused to answer any questions from the FBI agents. Based on the line of inquiry, Neffshade concluded the FBI agents were not necessarily looking into gathering further information about Mason. “It seemed like they were pursuing an investigation into me, but who knows? I didn’t answer any of their questions,” she said. “It’s important to remain silent to law enforcement as an activist. It is a vital part of security culture.”

DGR, formed about four years ago, requires its members to adhere to what the group calls a “safety culture” in order to reduce the amount of paranoia and fear that often comes with radical activism. On its website, DGR explains why it is important not to talk to police agents: “It doesn’t matter whether you are guilty or innocent. It doesn’t matter how smart you are. Never talk to police officers, FBI agents, Homeland Security, etc. It doesn’t matter if you believe you are telling police officers what they already know. It doesn’t matter if you just chit chat with police officers. Any talking to police officers, FBI agents, etc. will almost certainly harm you or others.”

Keith, along with Derrick Jensen and Aric McKay, co-authored a book published in 2011, Deep Green Resistance, on which the DGR group is largely based. DGR describes itself as an “aboveground organization that uses direct action in the fight to save our planet.” On its website, DGR states there is a need for a separate “underground that can target the strategic infrastructure of industrialization.”

In the “Deep Green Resistance” book, the authors ask, “What if there was a serious aboveground resistance movement combined with a small group of underground networks working in tandem?”

“[T]he undergrounders would engage in limited attacks on infrastructure (often in tandem with aboveground struggles), especially energy infrastructure, to try to reduce fossil fuel consumption and overall industrial activity,” the authors write in the book. “The overall thrust of this plan would be to use selective attacks to accelerate collapse in a deliberate way, like shoving a rickety building.”

In speeches and writings, Jensen, a co-leader of DGR, often ponders this question: “Every morning when I wake up I ask myself whether I should write or blow up a dam.” He also has argued about the necessity of using any means necessary “to stop this culture from killing the planet.” Jensen said he has not been questioned by the FBI about his involvement with DGR. He is also unaware of any DGR members who have been arrested for their work with the group.

In late 2014 and early 2015, the FBI contacted about a dozen DGR members either by telephone or through in-person visits. Max Wilbert, a professional photographer and one of the founding members of DGR, said the FBI contacted him on his cell phone during this period. “I immediately said that I wasn’t going to answer any questions and hung up the phone,” Wilbert told CounterPunch. “This is the best way to deal with this sort of government repression. As soon as they know that you will answer questions, they will keep coming after you.” If activists refuse to answer questions, the FBI or other police agencies are more likely to leave the person alone, he said.

In September 2015, Wilbert was among a group of DGR members detained at the U.S.-Canada border as they were on their way to attend a speech by author Chris Hedges in Vancouver, British Columbia. The group was eventually denied entry into Canada.

Wilbert said the Canadian border guards seemed to be searching for a reason to deny the DGR members entry. After focusing on some women’s self-defense gear in the car (some people in the vehicle were planning to offer a free class on self-defense in British Columbia), the border guards’ questions started turning to each person’s activism.

Making sure he was honest with the officers, Wilbert told the Canadian border guards that he had volunteered to take photographs of Hedges’ scheduled speech. “They said that they suspected I was entering the country to work illegally,” he said.

After getting turned back by the Canadian guards, the vehicle’s occupants faced additional scrutiny by U.S. border agents. At the U.S. border, the questions became much more political in nature. The U.S. guards asked Wilbert and his colleagues about the groups they belonged to and the ideas that these groups promoted. “Officers from the Canadian side even came over and spoke with the U.S. officers about us,” he said.

U.S. border guards confiscated Wilbert’s laptop computer. “Under U.S. law, they can legally copy your entire hard drive and keep the contents for something like 30 days,” he said. After a few hours, the border guards returned the computer. But Wilbert chose to get rid of the laptop after the search because he was concerned the government agents had tampered with it.

The Department of Homeland Security also has demonstrated an interest in the environmental group. DGR member Deanna Meyer, who lives in Colorado, was asked by a DHS agent during a visit to her home if she would be interested in “forming a liaison,” according to a Sept. 30, 2015, article in Earth Island Journal. The agent reportedly told Meyer he wanted to “head off any injuries or killing of people that could happen by people you know.” Meyer refused to cooperate with the DHS agent.

Wilbert views the federal police agencies’ ongoing actions against DGR members as harassment and intimidation. “It makes a mockery of free speech and democracy. We may advocate for radical and revolutionary ideas, but our work is legal. We are nonviolent. We are peaceful people,” he said.

The federal government’s treatment of DGR members is similar in some ways to how political activists were treated during the Red Scare era of the 1950s, contended Wilbert, who noted that Nicola Trumbo, a daughter of blacklisted Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, is a member of DGR and a friend of Wilbert’s. Nicola Trumbo’s childhood was marked by government surveillance, blacklisting and intimidation, he said. Pointing to Dalton Trumbo and other victims of the McCarthyite period, Wilbert emphasized these tactics are not new.

“This government uses intimidation and violence because these tactics are brutally effective. For me and the people I work with, we expect pushback,” Wilbert said. “That doesn’t make it easy, but in a way, this sort of attention validates the fact that our strategy represents a real threat to the system of power in this country. They’re scared of us because we have a plan to hit them where it hurts.”

The police scrutiny of DGR members is continuing at the same time local and federal police agencies maintain a hands-off approach to the takeover of a federal government installation in eastern Oregon by an armed right-wing militia. Some of the militia members claim they would be willing to kill if police attempted to end their occupation of the federal wildlife refuge.

If environmental activists staged an armed occupation of a coal-fired power plant, coal export terminal, or hydroelectric facility in the Western United States, they would be subject to an intense and immediate response by police agencies, Wilbert said. “The federal government doesn’t really give a damn, by and large, about what happens in the open West, at least when it’s wealthy white people doing the occupying,” he said. “But any occupation that actually threatened their power would see swift retribution. That is one of the main jobs of the police: to protect the rich and business interests against the people.”

DGR has learned that the “Deep Green Resistance” book is part of the FBI’s library at the agency’s offices in Quantico, Va. “They’re definitely aware of us. We have filed a Freedom of Information Act request to find out what kind of information the FBI is gathering,” Wilbert said. “But those requests were denied because they involve active investigations.”

When FBI agents visited her home in Pittsburgh, Neffshade said she felt fear during the questioning. She tried to remain calm. “I felt pressure to respond to their questions because, hey, I’ve been taught that it’s rude to just stand in silence when someone is speaking to you,” she explained. “I maintained silence long enough to gather my thoughts about which phrases are appropriate to say to law enforcement. After they left, I felt shaky and had to fight off feelings of paranoia.”

Before they left, the FBI agents handed Neffshade a business card and said, “If you change your mind, here is contact information.” Neffshades immediately contacted members of DGR to let them know the FBI had showed up on her doorstep.

While the FBI visit will make her more careful about what she writes in letters to prisoners, Neffshade said she has no plans to retreat from her involvement with DGR.

MONTGOMERY, Ala -

Federal prosecutors say a former Alabama police chief has been convicted of selling ammunition to a man who was living in the country illegally.

Authorities said in a statement Monday that former Franklin police chief Michael Clements ran a side business selling electronics and more from his home while he worked as police chief.

Prosecutors say the FBI and Auburn Police began investigating Clements after receiving information that he was selling stolen property and firearms.

Prosecutors say a confidential informant bought a stolen laptop from Clements and got video of Clements selling a firearm and ammunition to a Mexican national.

I first met William Weyland Turner at a political conference, in a hotel bar in Los Angeles. He was 71, and Parkinson’s disease made his every move a staggering, slow-motion effort; walking, taking a sip of a drink, even laughing. Yet his brain remained sharp.

We bonded immediately over our distaste for our hotel. The rooms, all bad angles and David Lynch lighting, had allegedly been designed with feng shui in mind. Rooms of absurd discomfort resulted, with tiny nonsensical chairs and televisions that were propped up six inches off the ground and facing the window, as if for the benefit of local birds. The elevators were bathed in ominous red light; when moving between floors, they produced ominous whispering rather than Muzak.

Most importantly, neither of us could turn on the overhead lights in our rooms, so we were forced to rely on the closet light for illumination. “I’m a smart guy,” Turner said. “You’re a smart guy. And we still can’t figure this out.” I ordered another $15 cocktail, unhappy about the tab but happy with the company.

William Turner – or, forever after, Bill – was in the final chapter of one hell of a life. He started off as the embodiment of one of those pragmatic, respectable, square-jawed men celebrated on mid-twentieth century American television, but wound up among hippies and conspiracy theorists. And the damndest thing about it was that the progression actually made perfect logical sense.

Born in 1927, he enrolled in the Navy at age 17, and was assigned to the Pacific shortly before the bombs were dropped in Japan. Returning home, he played semi-pro hockey, at one point flirting with the New York Rangers of the NHL.

But the FBI paid better – back then anyway. He stayed with the Bureau from 1951 to 1961, becoming increasingly dubious about its tactics and the curious obsessions of its leader, J. Edgar Hoover. When he finally left the FBI for good – he had tried to leave in 1957 but was assured that changes were in store – he didn’t go out, as he put it, with “the customary hearts and flowers routine.”[1] Instead, he decided to file suit for violations of his free speech rights, and although it was unsuccessful he did manage to get some negative assessments into the public record from other agents.

Turner had become increasingly uncomfortable with the director’s focus on rooting out a largely illusionary Communist threat, the beginnings of COINTELPRO (a program that targeted mostly black organizations, such as the Black Panthers, as well as Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King), wiretapping and illegal “black-bag” jobs. In Turner’s opinion, the FBI seemed to be little more than the church of J. Edgar Hoover, which was dangerous for national security. As Turner himself jocularly relates in his autobiography:

…Hoover projected an image of perfection…An example of this is the story about the New York agents who cornered a fugitive at a subway entrance. A shootout ensued, and one agent was taken to the hospital with a leg wound. The next morning Hoover appeared with his civic group as scheduled. “Gentlemen,” he began, “I am with you this morning even though my heart is heavy, for last night in New York one of my agents was killed in a gun battle.” When the Director’s words reached New York, agents drew straws to see who would go to the hospital and finish off the wounded agent.[2]

Turner realized he was at a crossroads. He had served in the Navy and spent ten years investigating and prosecuting crime as one of Hoover’s finest. So what would he do? He would become a journalist, and not just any journalist – he would wind up as the editor of Ramparts magazine.

Along with Paul Krassner’s iconoclastic The Realist, Ramparts was one of the most radical magazines of its time: an ostensibly Catholic publication that was in practice a leftist attack on the status quo. Typical articles probed government surveillance or CIA infiltration of liberal groups. Authors included members of the Black Panther party .

In the 50s, every red-blooded American kid ran around with a Junior G-man badge; in the next decade, the FBI would be seen as yet another arm of an oppressive state. And somehow Bill Turner had moved from one to the other. It was like television star Donna Reed suddenly appearing in a West African dashiki.

The fact is, Turner had stayed true to his principles. He was a patriot, but he wasn’t a fool – and when he saw the FBI as part of the problem, he didn’t hesitate to join the other side.

As editor of Ramparts under publisher Warren Hinckle, he produced some of the most radical writing of the period, as well as giving voice to what was labeled the New American Left. This was a reaction to the Vietnam War, the emerging surveillance state, the presidencies of Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon, and the major assassinations of the Sixties – John and Robert Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Malcolm X.

In many ways, Turner was ahead of his time. One example is an article he wrote in the January 1967 Ramparts about the right-wing militia called the Minutemen. In words that could scarcely be more relevant today, he berates the FBI for spending all its time chasing the ghosts of Communism when a real American threat grows within our own society – disenfranchised white men violently opposed to racial change.

The article gained credence coming from someone who had recently been involved in the very organization he now criticized. Although offended, Hoover’s outfit realized that confronting Turner was pointless. An internal FBI memo notes that “Due to Turner’s attitude toward the Bureau, it would be useless to contact him to set him straight…No further action is necessary as this article merely represents another of Turner’s attempts to smear the Bureau.”[3]

That same issue of Ramparts played an important role in history for quite another reason: it contained William Pepper’s scathing anti-war article, “The Children of Vietnam.”

FBI Redactions regarding William W. Turner and Ramparts Magazine Photo credit: governmentattic.org

After reading Pepper’s piece, Dr. King asked the author to speak to his Atlanta congregation. This relationship spurred the civil-rights leader to turn his attention to the Vietnam war, which he condemned in his famous April 4, 1967,speech. (King would be assassinated exactly one year after that speech.)

Meanwhile, Turner’s Minutemen article attracted the attention of New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison, who asked Turner to help him investigate the assassination of John F. Kennedy.[4]

A key figure in this investigation, dramatized in Oliver Stone’s 1991 movie, JFK, was a New Orleans businessman and CIA contract agent named Clay Shaw, whom Garrison accused of conspiring to kill Kennedy.

Turner agreed to help Garrison, and almost a year later wrote a cover story in Ramparts: “In my opinion, there is no question they have uncovered a conspiracy.”

One aspect of the case that Ramparts magazine focused on in the early going was a cluster of mysterious deaths of people involved in some way with the assassination.

An FBI memorandum, dated 10/27/1966, notes that in previous articles the magazine “…focused on at least 10 persons known to have been murdered, to have committed suicide, or died in suspicious circumstances since the Kennedy assassination…” Then there is a space and one remark: “The Director asked, What do we know of [REDACTED].”

A most intriguing redaction.

Turner himself wrote about some of these suspicious deaths, including that of Gary Underhill. Underhill had been in military intelligence in World War II, before working for the CIA and serving as an advisor to LIFE Magazine publisher Henry Luce, who controlled the famous Zapruder film of the Kennedy assassination .[5]

Several days after the JFK assassination, Underhill told a friend that he knew a drug-running faction of the CIA had killed Kennedy, adding, ominously, “they knew that he knew.” Underhill would later be found shot dead, with a pistol under his left arm. His death was ruled a suicide, despite the fact that Underhill was right-handed.

Turner wrote:

J . Garrett Underhill had been an intelligence agent during World War II and was a recognized authority on limited warfare and small arms. A researcher and writer on military affairs, he was on a first-name basis with many of the top brass in the Pentagon. He was also on intimate terms with a number of high ranking CIA officials – he was one of the Agency’s “un-people” who performed special assignments. At one time he had been a friend of Samuel Cummings of Interarmco, the arms broker that numbers among its customers the CIA and, ironically, Klein’s Sporting Goods of Chicago, from whence the mail order Carcano allegedly was purchased by Oswald.[6]

Having spent so much time aiding Garrison on the latter’s doomed investigation of President Kennedy’s assassination — Shaw was eventually acquitted of involvement — Turner would find himself investigating the murder of another Kennedy, John’s brother Robert, shot to death in June 1968. The resulting book (written with Jonn Christian), The Assassination of Robert F. Kennedy: The Conspiracy and Coverup, continues to be one of the key volumes written on the case, along with Shane O’Sullivan’s Who Killed Bobby?

The general public is mostly unaware of the evidence for a conspiracy in the death of RFK, even though the physical evidence is easier to understand than in the JFK case. Although witnesses saw Sirhan Sirhan shoot at RFK while facing his front, the Senator’s wounds are in his back and the rear of his head, from a gun fired at point-blank range.

An astonishing story in its own right, complete with a Girl in a Polka Dot Dress, a “Walking Bible,” and mind control, the RFK assassination narrative is too complex to relate here. However, Turner and Christian must have done something right, because Random House destroyed 20,000 copies of the book rather than publish it, allegedly in response to the threat of a lawsuit by a known criminal with an FBI rap sheet.[7]

Turner would go on to write more books, including an autobiography. Although slowed in later years by his Parkinson’s, his ailments did not affect his mind. He continued to write and research, and remained as passionate as ever about exposing the truth behind government obfuscations.

Bill Turner died on December 26, 2015.

I worked with him numerous times over the years, helping him deliver his speeches at the yearly Coalition on Political Assassinations (COPA) conferences, and he was always flexible, polite, and pleasant. (This may not seem like much, but when you work with dozens of remote speakers from all over the world, an affable and cooperative manner truly matters).

In a research “community” too often characterized by cut-throat competitiveness, Bill made himself a lot of friends for his gentle spirit and his kindness. His memory, as well as his work, will live on.

Boston Globe Freaks Over Jeb’s Accidental Deep Politics

Here’s a slightly complex one with a very simple message:

The Boston Globe just ran an item implicitly questioning the judgment of a Super PAC supporting Jeb Bush. The basis? The PAC ran an ad featuring Ben Swann, a newscaster who has doubts about the official Boston Marathon Bombing story. The Globe has no beef with the ad itself, which like many others takes Marco Rubio to task for missing Senate votes. Instead, it is who is shown mentioning Rubio’s record that has the Globe up in arms: a newscaster who has publicly expressed skepticism about the Boston Bombing, along with 9/11 and several mass shootings:

In 2013, while working for Cincinnati Fox-affiliate WXIX, Swann suggested that the FBI knew about the Boston Marathon bombing before it happened — even questioning if the government recruited and trained the perpetrators. On his YouTube channel later that year, Swann raised the notion that the FBI executed Ibragim Todashev, a suspected friend of the Tsarnaev brothers.

The Globe refers to Swann as “a Boston Marathon bombing conspiracy theorist.”

The paper contacted the Super PAC for an explanation, and it dodged that “bullet.”

The Globe of course never actually says what is wrong with questioning the version promoted by the FBI and government, nor addresses the huge number of known anomalies with the official account. Instead it relies on cheap McCarthyist tactics of discrediting anyone simply because they do not easily fall into line with what we’re told to think.

Highly unlikely but…. Could Jeb Bush’s supporters be so desperate to save his dying campaign that they are even willing to seek the support of the very demographic that believes his family, their cronies, and the military industrial complex fully capable of almost anything to maintain and consolidate power? Or, in this case, regain power?

Almost certainly not–most likely the Ben Swann item on Rubio was just one the advertising people ran across, and grabbed. But if there were more to it, the irony would be tremendous.

In any case, anything of depth on this would totally be lost on the Globe. Pity the poor, simple, traditional media. They miss everything, and make a big deal out of nothing.

Fears that the popularity of a Swedish far-right anti-immigrant party would soar persuaded police to suppress details of migrant involvement in crime, officials have admitted.

As anger grows over the country’s open-door refugee policy, the Sweden Democrats party is believed to be benefiting from claims of cover-ups of migrant crimes, most recently over sexual assaults by a group of young Afghan men on teenage girls at a Stockholm festival — for the second time.

State Man Seeks Asylum In Sweden
An Activist Claims His Efforts To Start A Civilian Review Board For Police Ignited A Campaign Of Harassment, But Swedish Authorities Have Denied His Request.
October 18, 1998|

It sounds like one of those ``News of the Weird'' column items: A Connecticut man is hiding in Sweden, where he seeks asylum, because he thinks U.S. police are out to get him.

The things is, it's true.

The asylum part anyway.

Richard ``Ritt'' Goldstein, 47, became the first American in years to apply for asylum when he moved to Sweden last year. He said his activism in pushing for a statewide civilian review board for police resulted in daily harassment from police in Connecticut and other states.

Goldstein's asylum request was rejected by the Swedes last month, and since then he has been living a refugee's life, supported by private citizens and European human rights groups.

``I live underground,'' he said, during a phone interview Friday. ``The thing is, very fortunately, there are those who looked at the work I had done and looked at the overwhelming evidence that I brought with me. Initially, there was a little skepticism, but here, unlike other places, they were not burdened by believing it can't happen. . . . Law enforcement wasn't a sacred cow to them.''

Whether Goldstein is characterized as a kook making false claims or a legitimate poster boy for the crusade against police brutality depends on who is doing the talking.

Just last week, Amnesty International launched a new campaign calling attention to human rights abuses within the United States, citing ``widespread and persistent'' police brutality as one of the top problems.

Former Norwalk Mayor William Collins said Goldstein had a strong commitment to his work, which included arranging a hearing at the state capitol last year on forming a statewide police review board.

Goldstein also headed a group called the Standing Committee on Law Enforcement Development. ``I found him very dedicated to his cause, which I supported very strongly,'' Collins said.

Connecticut police don't share that view.

Goldstein has made harassment complaints to several police departments, including Danbury, Norwalk, Wethersfield and Cromwell. His complaints date back to the 1980s, when his activism began.

The complaints seem to have a pattern: Goldstein told police his car or home or self was sprayed by chemicals or pepper spray, usually by someone in plain clothes

What happens when you survive a police shooting in Baltimore?

There’s no dispute that police shot Keith Davis but as he nurses his wounds 200 days later from jail – and awaits trial – he’s fighting against criminal charges

Keith Davis was the first person to be shot by police after Freddie Gray died in police custody in April. But whether or not Davis committed crimes that day remains in dispute.

On 7 June 2015, Baltimore was still reeling from the unrest that had put thousands of citizens at odds with battalions of police dressed in riot gear in the aftermath of the death of Freddie Gray. May had been the city’s most violent month since the 1970s. More than 40 people had been murdered in the city and more than 100 others non-fatally shot in the month since the hopeful day when state’s attorney Marilyn Mosby told the city that she felt its pain as she announced she would press charges against the officers tied to Gray’s death in the back of a police van.

Residents and police alike were expressing confusion and fear, as some claimed officers were in the middle of a “slowdown” in retaliation against city leadership. So when reports of a shoot-out between a suspect and officers came out, no one was surprised – or particularly outraged. The local newspaper ran a story based on the police reports, which said that the man, Keith Davis Jr, had robbed an unlicensed cab driver with a pistol and fled from the police to a garage, where he refused to give up his weapon and was shot at numerous times before being hit in the arm and the face and surrendering.

But unlike many victims of police shootings, Davis lived to provide his own account of what happened that morning – he says he didn’t have a gun and was misidentified as the suspect. He is now fighting criminal charges against him and has been in jail awaiting trial for more than 200 days, while nursing his gunshot wounds behind bars.

Well, excuse me! Look at big money trail for Clinton pardons
'Too powerful to jail'? Hillary and Bill still raking in cash 15 years after scandal

On Sunday, Hillary Clinton said there should be “no individual too powerful to jail,” and the author of the explosive book alleging Clinton used the State Department for favors to Clinton Foundation donors says that rule should apply to the Democrat front-runner as well.

Clinton-Cash“Clinton Cash” author Peter Schweizer told WND and Radio America the Clintons are also still profiting off the pardon of Marc Rich, one of the ugliest – and last – acts of President Bill Clinton in 2001.

In a debate hosted by NBC and the Congressional Black Caucus Institute, the Democratic Party White House hopefuls were asked about their differences regarding Wall Street reform. Sec. Clinton scolded Sen. Bernie Sanders for being critical of her and President Obama for accepting campaign donations from Wall Street, but he also highlighted where their positions are similar.

“There is no daylight on the basic premise that there should be no bank too big to fail and no individual too powerful to jail,” Clinton said. “We agree on that.”

Hillary for prosecution, not president! Join the sizzling campaign to put Mrs. Clinton where she really belongs

Clinton is under FBI investigation for conducting all of her State Department business through a home server and possibly breaking the law for how she handled classified and top secret information. Last week, reports revealed that the FBI expanded its probe of Clinton into whether she used the State Department to reward donors to the Clinton Foundation
