nope. never even considered doing standup. I'm a liscensed stage magician tho', so i've some experience with handling groups of people.

i'm not actually very funny, just filled with hate.

Finally got a legal copy of the Dark Knight. Good thing too, cause my bootleg was shitty.

The preview for Watchmen is gorgeous. I've had that song in my head ever since. Appropriate too, the music feels inevitable and is topically relevant to the Story (it is about apocalypse). Way better than the first movie it was used for.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, if you don't know Watchmen, if you've never read it, you have three months. (3/6/9 release in the states) I've been wondering for years now whether they could actually do it. A friend of mine assures me that not only can they do it, but that they have. I hope so. If they did, the world you live in now will not be here in six months. Maybe our culture will get the nudge it needs to finally get out of the damned twentieth century.

it'll be slick and pretty as hell either way. that i know for certain already.

Smashing Pumpkins -- The Beginning is the End is the Beginning

Send a heartbeat to
The void that cries through you
Relive the pictures that
have come to pass
For now we stand alone
The world is lost and blown
And we are flesh and blood disintegrate
With no more to hate

Is it bright where you are?
Have the people changed?
Does it make you happy
you're so strange?
And in your darkest hour
as our secrets fade
We can watch the world
devoured in it's pain

Delivered from the blast
The last of a line of lasts
The pale princess of a palace cracked
And now the kingdom comes
Crashing down undone
And I am a master of a nothing place
Of recoil and grace

Is it bright where you are?
Have the people changed?
Does it make you happy
you're so strange?
And in your darkest hour
I hold secret's flame
We can watch the world
devoured in it's pain

Time has stopped before us
The sky cannot ignore us
No one can separate us
For we are all that is left
The echo bounces off me
The shadow lost beside me
There's no more need to pretend
Cause now I can begin again

Is it bright where you are?
Have the people changed?
Does it make you happy
you're so strange?
And in your darkest hour
I hold secret's flame
We can watch the world
devoured in it's hate
Strange
Strange
Strange

anyhow that is the sort of mood i am in.

Watchmen

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watchmen

edit: do NOT read the wiki link if you want to read the story or see the movie without spoilers, as it'll ruin it.

(i'd go so far as to say that Alan Moore's little comic book has had more cultural impact than any other piece of literature in the last twenty five years)

OE-I have seen folks discuss the watchmen here at RI-not very familiar with it-sorta know what it is about-normally this would not be my kind of movie-but so many intelligent people seem to be excited about the films release -so that makes me want to see it-I wont go to link just in case
How was the Dark Knight-this also would not normally be my kind of thing-but some people have talked about the film exploding with synchronicities-from real life to deeper matters so I am kind of interested don't worry about spoilers with this one-I have read so much about it on synchro blogs I feel I have seen the film-I must find out more about the Alan Moore fellow-heard him discussed in many places. Perhaps my humor is a bit 'off' because I even found your comment about not being funny, just filled with hate funny-not of course that I find that funny in you-but becuase I think some of the best comedians both in stand up and other areas were filled with self hate hmmm maybe I should get in on it! or filled with hate towards the way things are
Originally I didnt know if I would be online that much today and really wasnt-but this has been an extremely productive evening as far as the H/A series goes-I have 5 posts ready to go don't know when I will start putting them up and once I realized how much I had got done I felt a sense of accomplishment and am feeling much better physically in the last hours-but of course what this will lead to is my staying up til the small hour its already 2 am here and for next week i have to try to keep a fairly early schedule because of appointments.
Thanks for the Smashing Pumpkins lyrics-always liked them-dont listen to them much anymore and also for the Watchmen and Moore info-I wonder if the trailer would be on utube? That is great about you being a stage magician-I could never have attempted that because I am not quick enough or subtle enough with the movements and other things they have to do. I will definitely plan to see the movie-I am too curious now. I hope you are doing great and not too cold up there!-although from the bits of news I have gathered it seems to be the northeast getting hammered right now. May be back in a bit if not hope to talk soon always enjoy it and learn something new-until then all the best to you!-Z
Duh I guess you gave the watchmen trailer link already-like I say I have always had a tendency to miss what is right in front of me.

Well the trailer certainly looked wonderful-maybe the graphic novels would be at trade in place-although with my last experience there wasn't too thrilled with credit! I had a book-much more complete than the library books I have had and wound up not having enough credit of Blakes prose-also there was a Flannery O Connor book I would love to have got. In the end had to settle for comrade khruschevs last memoir-had not realized this was a two parter-already had the first and thought that was it -finis
rather stupid of me to get a book that i already know so much history of-and from what i can tell-yes i hope skip and jump in all non-fic books it doesnt seem to have much about his feelings towards the brezhnev mafia wrt his overthrow-of course as he was riding out his last years in USSR this is to be expected. I am very excited as it appears Jeff's book is at last on its way to my hot little hands-due to the kindness of my brother-wont say more about this until I actually receive it-it has been a rather muddled operation considering we are living in an era of fast-perhaps too fast transactions-the muddledness of it of course being my fault.

I was wondering-especially inregards to the last 4-8 years if the life-or the stage of our life -if you have ever noticed that it seems to take on an aura of unreality or kind of like we are living in a 3-D comic book-sometimes life to me seems utterly flat and two dimensional, then sometimes i have feelings of overwhelming gratitude and thankfulness-even a kind of romantic/melancholy view of my own existence-but there is always another part -when i look at the world and think-this couldn't possibly be real or happening-dont get me wrong-i know on some ontological level it is real (watch out when comrade tries to use wordage he is not to familiar with) as I have had such a productive day-at least in a life as constricted and sometimes lonely-wrt lacking a soulmate that i can put my grubby hands on I will give you an example of how abysmal my writing-or attempts at can be also writers block-the two examples are about Jeff's book anxious gravity-they trail off and are of no length because I hit the proverbial f'in brick wall

ex 1 Normally you wouldnt think you could come to understand and indeed love the work of someone who makes you think that your worst nightmares-and maybe even beyond your worse nightmares might be real. I wouldnt have thought so either until I found Jeff Wells and Rigorous Intuition

ex 2 There is a subtlety and a nice acknowlegement of the agonies and the hilarities of life in the texture of Jeff Wells' writing that is hard to describe

ex 3 Jeff Wells would be the friendly but introverted smart kid who sat in the back of the classroom. A kid you knew thought about all of the things a typical teenager thinks about-girls, music, cars and the like. But you would also know he knew things of a much deeper nature inside......

All of this to write a simple book review for a book I truly enjoyed and for someone who runs a website that if I never found would have been exposed to you and your ideas and wonderful thoughts along with many other people here-dont know what it is-i just hit a frikking brick wall-
o well OE enough of my ramblings I hope you are happy and at peace and will maybe see your girlfriend soon-I feel sometimes I am dying on the vine without 'D' but dont know why-Z
talk about inevitable-me coming back after seeing the pumpkins video I had this image of the world devouring itself Ouroboros style-maybe in its hate? to start over? I have been in a different kind of mood the last few days that if i could relate to a song would be Joy Divisions love will tear us apart again-there is a line in that song that goes you cry out in your sleep all my failings exposed-previous to that are the lyrics/when routine bites hard and ambitions are low/when resentment rides high but emotions wont grow/and we're changing our ways taking different roads(thinking of my rather unromantic but semi adorable latin lover (or perhaps former latin lover 'd' here.

OP ED: I GMed Warhammer Roleplay for several years. My games were known for their gritty violent medieval nastiness and intense suspense, not to forget dark mages and necromancers...

Never got into the tabletop strategy games - I painted figurines just for sometime - use in combat situations visualisation in normal roleplaying games.

the plot is basically a murder mystery. thats the part that could get spoiled, and is only indirectly related to its theme, which is mostly about power, security and deconstructing the hero as an idea.

it was one of the first of the mainstream 80s R rated comics, seemingly getting full backing from DC despite its overtly deconstuctive nature (Alan Moore said he was intentionally trying to make readers uncomfortable) and it created a subgenre. It is basically the reason the term "graphic novel" exists and there is a shelf for them at most chain bookstores, that is, it was the first mainstream comic book taken seriously by serious people.

there are parts of it that certainly cannot be adapted properly for film, so who knows whether they'll get it right or not. it does appear that the folks doing it have at least read the damned thing and are aware that a lot of people will hate them if they fuck it up too badly. (it will either kill the superhero movie genre for this round or make it mainsteam enough to be taken seriously by serious people)

it will likely sound like existentialism to most of its viewers, but Alan Moore is really a gnostic.

batman after sleep.

(there's a lot of Alan Moore in the Dark Knight too, almost as much as there is Frank Miller, Batman can never be taken completely seriously because it'll always have that Adam West aftertaste, though i give them "A" for effort)

cool pics penguin-you must have been imaging while i was writing-Z
O didnt realize you were here also OE-I will read-Z
hehe could not agree more about A West after taste-although as I said I am not overly familiar with the genre-interesting thoughts about existentialism-it seems Gallic culture for some reason kind of cornered the market with that to me anyway-I have always found Gnosticism extremely interesting used to have a few books - i love how they think the 'god' so many worship is actually insane and the true god cant be found except in yourself-also like the theory of the archons and pretty much believe in it
thanks again everyone-must decide to sleep now or listen to some tunes for a bit-might be back-definitely hope to be back tomorrow-Z
