I was interested within the context of this thread as I understand he is a sort of anarchist-affiliated "counter-intelligence officer" and researcher of the far-right who then got embroiled in some acrimonious triangular firing squad between anarchists, hard-Left anti-fascists ( Searchlight et al ) and the neo-nazi groups aswell......
.......whilst notionally interested in this sort of bizarre sectarian shannaigans it all seemed to be so school-playground and got so meta I could never be bothered to sort out all the claims and counter-claims involved......
.....always an issue when someones trying to turn a buck selling their output aswell ( ie O'Hara'a books & occasional 'zine Noted from the Borderland ) as you can get cut-off from free interaction & information-sharing ....
Alexander Baron & Gilad Atzmon- A Mutual Admiration Society
It seems Atzmon is getting even bolder in his open anti-semitism. In a blog post dated the 27th December he links to a supportive article from the homophobic plagiarist Alexander Baron.
Baron is one of the lesser known figures on the far right, so a bit of background. He’s openly antisemitic and a holocaust denier as this quote from his website shows shows:
"I have published on the Holocaust and Holocaust Revisionism – what is known pejoratively and inaccurately as Holocaust Denial. I have published a book length exposé of Zionist agent and sexual deviant David Irving".
He uses the traditional antisemite tactic of blaming Jews for antisemitism. He describes the “Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion” as: Organized Jewry’s Deadliest Weapon
Baron isn’t just a lone crank, he has operational links with the Evolian think-tank “New Right”, set up by the veteren far-right activist and founder of “National Anarchism”, Troy Southgate. Southgate acts as secretary of the group, which has Jonathan Bowden (who used to be in the Monday Club, the Revolutionary Conservative Caucus, the Freedom Party and the BNP) as its chairman. So, much like Southgate, this is someone with a long history of neo-fascist activism. Another person involved with the New Right is the veteran fascist and Holocaust denier Lady Michelle Renouf. Baron thanks her in his writing up of the 2010 conference so he obviously knows her relatively well. Baron himself spoke at the 2005 launch of the group and the 2010 and 2011 conferences.
Considering this is all easily available on Baron’s website (which is where the article Atzmon links to is from), there is no way Atzmon won’t have seen at least some of it.
So why might Atzmon be attracted to Baron and by extension the New Right?
I’d say it’s an ideological convergence. Despite the claims from some quarters, while Atzmon is undoubtedly on the far right, his particular allegiance isn’t to Neonazi interpretations of fascism. (The fact some are pushing this merely illustrates the lack of serious anti-fascist analysis around at the moment. Nobody with even a basic understanding of far-right ideology would be arguing this). His is more a kind of ‘post-modern’, cultural take on far right themes. So he’s going to be attracted to the likes of Baron who present themselves as “beyond left and right”. And the founding statement of the New Right could come straight from Atzmon himself:
We are opposed to liberalism, democracy and egalitarianism and fight to restore the eternal tsunami that have become submerged beneath the corrosive tsunami of the modern world.
(For a more in-depth analysis of this specific strand of neofascism, see Co-opting the Counter Culture: Troy Southgate and the National Revolutionary Faction) by Graham D. Macklin).
Some conclusions.
While it might have been previous possible to claim that, while a racist, Atzmon wasn’t a fascist, that is definitely no longer the case. Atzmon is now openly linking to the organised far right, which makes him one of them. As such, no platform is the correct position to take, whatever that may entail.
And those like Roy Bard/FreeThePeeps (who was behind the Indymedia coup) and Lauren Booth who are still defending Atzmon have to be treated as fascists themselves at this point. Even if they don’t actively follow far right ideologies, they are now overtly collaborating with fascists. At this point, it doesn’t make any difference whether this is deliberate or is the product of stupidity and wilful ignorance. While not quite at the same level yet, Mikey Ezra of Harry’s Place also needs watching carefully. While he may see getting his books signed by fascists as some kind of jolly public school jape, I beg to differ.
You are either anti-fascist or you are pro-fascist. There is no middle ground and none will be accepted.

Eco-fascism also has a lengthy lineage in Britain.

What follows is a critical and supplemented condensation of three books on the history of environmentalism written between 1985 and 1994 by Oxford History Professor Anna Bramwell.
The latter two books were published by Yale University. The books make clear the Third Reich was a radical environmentalist regime. The Nazis promoted organic farming, reforestation, species preservation, naturalism, neo-paganism, holistic science, animal rights, sun-worship, herbalism, anti-capitalism, ecology, anti-urbanism, alternative energy, hysterical anti-pollutionism and apocalyptic anti-industrialism. At the same time the British ecology movement was stridently, treasonously fascist. While these aspects of Bramwell’s writings have been commented on, however inadequately, much less has been said about her treatment of post-WWII environmentalism. Here she provides useful insights into the wholesale corruption of the scientific community, the capturing of key organizations and the manipulation of the mass media by the environmental movement. Bramwell is not a passive observer of this process and conceals key players, interests and motives.

This is a very busy time at the moment for Anti-Fascists. The British Democratic Party launch on Saturday and the BNP already have a National Speaker tour being conducted by their boss Nick Griffin. It has a amusing side to it as Griffin furious about the rival group launching in Leicester this Saturday has decided to hold his peopl talk for his deminishing gang of followers in the same City, however I could not let pass the remark about Anarchists and the Green as some kind of wrong doing in the pages of Searchlight, way back.
Yes we did a number of stories about the infiltration of some Anarchist groups. For anybody who has followed the stories of the infiltration by the Police of all sorts of groups over many years ranging from Peace, Enviromental, anti-war, animal rights groups. I think this more than bears out what were were warning against.
As for the Greens readers might recall our report on turning up at a annual Green Party conference and asking why one of their key note speakers was Anna Bramwell the Young Members Organisers of Monday Club , who also active in the Enock Powell support group Powellite run by a ex-spook Bee Carthew.
Anna’s husband Roy was a hard line nazi and a slum landlord. There was uproad and she had to leave Greens AGM. Another person present who peddled himself as a Roma, whilst also being a member of the National Front.
Anna went on to write a number of books about Hitlers ideas on Green matters and one book that was widely reviewed on Adolf’s Ecological Minister. For some odd reason shrouded in mystery Anna ended up working for the Overseas Aid and development body at their Paris office.
Searchlight had been working with one of the German Green Partys MEP’s where a whole Lands(State) group had to be shut down by the National Party because it was knee deep in nazi infiltrators.
I read recently on the Hope not hate site that the Ogreave Miners support group had told Griffn to take a hike when he offered his support. Hnh claims that this was because they were able to warn the Miners, thats more like it, but they forgot to mention that at the height of the Miners strike when Griffins then Political Soldier wing of the NF a similar offer of assistance was uncovered through our sources inside the Political Soldiers and literaly at five to midnight we stopped them organising a fund raising meeting for the striking Miners in London.
This was only one of several infiltration attempts to get inside working class groups at that time, the whistle was blown on them all.
So when people drop in throw away lines about Searchlight, Green and anarchists the posters should know what they are talking about.
Salud.
By the way I was with my Comrade Bob Archer this morning and he is outraged by the ill informed attacks on Sonia and the Academy School where she serves as a Governor.

BNP links to US extremists revealed by Anonymous
'Hactivists' target websites of far-right American Third Position and publish emails praising BNP leader Nick Griffin
Alexandra Topping
The Guardian, Wednesday 1 February 2012
Nick Griffin was described in one email as 'probably the most effective white activist in the world today'.
Hacked emails from a far-right group appear to reveal links with the BNP, after the group of American "hactivists" Anonymous targeted a number of US extremists' websites.
The group infiltrated the site of American Third Position, a white nationalist political group, in a campaign ironically dubbed "Operation Blitzkrieg", publishing emails in which it praised the BNP leader, Nick Griffin.
In one January 2010 email from "WhiteNewsNow" with the subject "Your Beautiful Pontoon Bridge", Griffin is described as "probably the most effective white activist in the world today".
A member of the group writes: "I've got my tickets for Jared Taylor's 2010 American Renaissance. Your fellow WhiteNewsNow members [...] are meeting up with some more of us and probably the most effective White activist in the world today, Nick Griffin."
In another from December 2009, the sender refers to Griffin in an email about the Copenhagen climate conference. It states: "Today will definitely be a Pearl Harbor for the Global Warming criminals who are at this moment cringing in the 4,200-seat arena in Copenhagen where Nick Griffin is clobbering them with the truth about Climategate. Good things are happening … and this is our chance to seize the opportunity."
The links between the two groups appear to be current. Former BNP leadership contender Andrew Brons is mentioned in an email titled "minutes for leadership phone conference January 7, 2012".
It states: "Next Meeting: Andrew Brons, Member of European Parliament and no. 2 in BNP, will be joining our phone conference. He has expressed enthusiasm about Merlin's [Merlin Miller, the party's nominee for the 2012 presidential election] presidential campaign. We must be prepared ahead of time by subject matter, questions and inquiring director."
A spokesman for the BNP could not confirm or deny whether the party had links or was in contact with American Third Position. "We don't know if [Andrew Brons] had contact with them over the phone. If he did we don't see what the issue is, he's a popular MEP. If he spoke to them he's been elected to speak to people and share ideas, we speak to everyone including Muslim groups."
Commenting on American Third Position presidential nominee Merlin Miller, he added: "With regards to America, we would welcome any deviation from the farce of two-party politics."
Anonymous – a collective of hackers without any centralised authority – published thousands of personal emails, forum messages and personal details of members under the banner "Good Night, White Pride".
In a statement, the hackers denounced American Third Position as "racist losers" who "try hard to maintain a professional public image to camouflage their vile racism [...] we're now airing all their dirty laundry all over the internet."
It continued: "We call upon not only other anti-fascists but all those opposed to white supremacy to utilise this information and make hell for these white nationalist scumbags. It is essential if we wish to live in a world free from oppression to expose and confront racists at their jobs, their schools, at their homes and in the streets."
…..it all seemed to be so school-playground and got so meta I could never be bothered to sort out all the claims and counter-claims involved......

Below is an interesting article on the links between another nutcase, Gilad Atzmon and Alexander Baron
Gerry Gable is someone who would do well to keep is over-sized mouth shut. Not only did he marry a fascist, Sonia Hochfelder, but he was caught red-handed in 1977 urging his superior at London Weekend Television Barry Cox not to give sympathetic coverage to the then Labour government deportations of Phil Agee, an ex-CIA agent and Mark Hosenball, a journalist. Gable was acting a mouthpiece for the security services and MI5 with whom he boasted close connections, as well as the Israeli security services. Gable also planted false charges, alleging the anarchist Class-War group were working with if not a front for the National Front in the 1980’s’. The result of these false allegations was to seriously destabilise Anti-Fascist Action. See my article on Gable’s activities Undermining Anti-Fascists, Defending Zionism
Gable is well known as someone who trades information on the left and anti-fascist movement with the secret state. No anti-fascist worth their salt has anything to do with someone who is a political pimp.

Fair enough.
I think the role of... Hasbara in a European context is quite important in this.
Hasbara activists have even had a presence on R.I. - and threatened it in an on-going campaign.
I even posted links on it in the thread in the Firepit.
Do you specifically include fighting Hasbara... within anti-Fascist activities, AD?
Personally, I think they absolutely ARE.
What specifically is your clearly stated, unambiguous position on them?

"Hasbara" courses at Israeli universities exposed in new report
Yara Sa'di The Electronic Intifada Haifa 15 July 2013

Various Israeli academic institutions have introduced courses and programs on hasbara — the Hebrew-language term used to describe Israel’s attempts to re-brand its image as its occupation and military aggression makes it increasingly unpopular worldwide.
A new report from the Academic Watch Project shows that instead of promoting critical thought and inquiry, these courses at academic institutions serve to promote the policies of the State of Israel and the whitewashing of its crimes. The Academic Watch Project is a group of Palestinian students at Israeli academic institutions dedicated to exposing discrimination within Israeli academia and its connection with Israel’s military occupation and apartheid policies.
“A Word on Hasbara” aims to uncover the content of these courses and programs and their funding. It also seeks to reveal their connections with the ministries of foreign affairs and public diplomacy and international Zionist groups.
“Unofficial ambassadors”
One such course — “Ambassadors Online” (or “Ambassadors on the Web”) — offered at Haifa University boasts the slogan “Volunteering, Zionism, Digital Diplomacy.”
The course’s webpage features the logos of two Israeli ministries as well as those of Birthright Israel and StandWithUs, groups which aim to promote Israel among US college students — and offers the synopsis: “[the] goal is to provide Israeli university students with the knowledge, skills and tools they need to become unofficial ambassadors of Israel. The cadets of the project receive training which prepares them to effectively challenge the de-legitimization claims, engage in a dialogue with anti-Israeli activists and improve Israel’s image abroad by expanding the positive knowledge about the country.”
Eli Avraham, a co-founder of the “Ambassadors on the Web” course, said in an interview with The Canadian Jewish news: “when false claims are made about Israel, such as labeling it an apartheid state, people need to be equipped with knowledge and tools to speak out against those claims.”
He added: “The main idea is that this is about how to use the new media to reclaim Israel’s narrative and promote Israel’s point of view” (“Haifa U course teaches web hasbara strategies,” 13 March 2012).
Year-long hasbara program
IDC Herzliya’s Ambassador Club is a year-long program for more than two hundred students from thirty countries run in partnership with StandWithUs. The program includes lectures on media, economy and history in order to “arm the students with the latest surveys and data and to teach them how to present the Israeli narrative” in North America and Europe. At the end of the course, each participant receives “an accreditation endorsed by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” according to the StandWithUs website.
Student unions at Israeli universities also provide hasbara programs. The National Union of Israeli Students aims to fight “anti-Semitism” and “delegitimization of the State of Israel” by paying Israeli students $2,000 in return for writing comments and letters on social network sites promoting Israel and “refuting” criticism of the state’s policies for five hours per week.
These hasbara courses were put into practice last November, when Israel bombed Gaza for eight consecutive days. The student union at IDC Herzliya, in coordination with the ministries of media and public diplomacy, formed “a war center” to promote the Israeli army and its aggression. The “war center” received information directly from the Israeli army and the prime minister’s office.
Coexistence lie
Even more cynically, these programs are being used to promote a false narrative of coexistence, like the one boasted in a recent Times of Israel piece on the Ambassadors Online program at Haifa University. The article, titled “Muslim, Druze and Jewish students band together to improve Israel’s global image,” describes how students are trained to undermine the global boycott Israel movement.
But despite the hasbara lie of Israel being a bastion of peace and coexistence, as the Haifa University program trains students to promote, the reality for Palestinian students at Israeli universities is much different.
While the Ambassadors Online participants “monitored the media for biased coverage and took part in the shaping of positive public opinion towards Israel” during the bombing of Gaza last November, Palestinian students at Haifa University who protested the attacks were demonized by the city’s mayor as “terrorist supporters” and banned by the university from demonstrating on campus.
What these hasbara programs ultimately reveal is that Israel is losing the public relations battle and is desperately investing massive resources into improving its image. The role of Israeli academic institutions in these deceptive efforts reaffirm their role in serving the policies of the state, rather than promoting academic values and integrity.
