You pay for and own the Criminal Justice System yet you have no say in how it is run.

How bad is the system?

Chester Turner, serial killer on death row, is charged with four more murders
Investigators say DNA links serial killer Chester Dewayne Turner to the slayings of four women. In some cases, others had been accused of the crimes now attributed to Turner, who is on death row.

Statie brass wheeling and dealing
Use drug forfeit dough on SUVs, couches, flat-screens
Dave Wedge By Dave Wedge
Monday, February 21, 2011

Top-ranking state police brass at Logan International Airport shelled out $300,000 for a shiny, new fleet of take-home SUVs for themselves and bought couches, furniture and flat-screen TVs — all out of their own tightly controlled fund of seized drug money, the Herald has learned.

“It’s yet another example of things that seem to always end up happening at Massport, that are even beyond some of the normal excesses we see in state government,” said state Rep. Bradley H. Jones, a North Reading Republican. “It feeds into the perception of Massport as a cash cow from top to bottom.”

Commanders at Troop F at Logan — including the major, three lieutenants, a sergeant and a detective — are riding in style in $40,000-plus 2011 Ford Explorers purchased just weeks ago out of the unit’s asset forfeiture account — a discreet fund controlled by a detective lieutenant.

NYPD must give shot-citizens data to NYCLU
The judge said the NYPD's stance flew in the face of the Freedom of Information law, and ordered the reports be released

By Dareh Gregorian
The New York Post

NEW YORK — A Manhattan judge has ordered the NYPD to release data on police shooting incidents that it had been fighting tooth and nail to keep private.

In a decision made public yesterday, state Supreme Court Justice Emily Jane Goodman ruled the cops must turn over two kinds of reports that are filed after every shooting incident involving a civilian to the New York Civil Liberties Union.

Head of the public defender's office Jeff Adachi shows videos standing in direct contradiction to police reports which were signed by officers under penalty of perjury at the public defender's office in San Francisco, Calif., on Tuesday, March 1, 2011. Surveillance video from the Henry Hotel reveals that SFPD narcotics officers falsified police reports in order to justify searching residences without warrants or consent.

(03-02) 17:35 PST SAN FRANCISCO -- Officials with the San Francisco Public Defender's Office have produced a video they say proves that six narcotics officers lied in court about illegally searching two South of Market apartments in order to use what they found as evidence.

WISCASSET, Maine — A Maine State Police trooper was indicted in February on 13 charges involving a girl under the age of 14.

Gregory Vrooman, 45, of Nobleboro is accused of assaulting and sexually touching a girl under the age of 14 and then trying to cover up the crimes.

The Lincoln County grand jury indicted Vrooman on four charges of unlawful sexual touching, four charges of unlawful sexual contact, four charges of assault and one charge of tampering with a witness.

The 24-year veteran of the state police was arrested in November 2010 at his home and later released on bail.

Police in Reading are today encouraging residents to join the Big Society and zap speeding neighbours with personal issue speed detection kit. The speedster who falls afoul of the personal speedguns gets two written warnings from neighbourhood police. Police may then take action on the third infraction.

According to reports in GetReading, the controversial scheme, known as SpeedWatch, was trialled last year in Tilehurst East in co-ordination with the local neighbourhood action group (NAG).

The Vine wine bar in Danville was where "targets" were drinking before they were arrested by Contra Costa sheriff's deputy friends of a private investigator who allegedly set the men up.

(03-08) 18:29 PST DANVILLE -- A Contra Costa County sheriff's deputy told two colleagues he was making "dirty DUI" arrests on behalf of a private investigator who was setting up men to damage their reputations in legal fights, an investigator said in court documents.

Deputy Stephen Tanabe, 47, told a reserve sheriff's deputy on patrol with him the night of Jan. 14 that a drunken-driving arrest the two were making outside a Danville bar was a "setup" and that the target needed to be "dirtied" for a future court date, a sheriff's investigator wrote in a search warrant affidavit.
