Am I understanding this correctly to mean that there were several presidential elections which had a greater turnout than the available pool of living voters at the time?

Yes, in 1972, 1988, 1992, 2004, 2008 - all for the Republicans. The National Exit Poll is always forced to match the recorded vote. In order to match the vote in each of these elections, the NEP indicated that there were more returning Nixon, Bush 1 and Bush 2 voters from the previous election than were still living. This is the ultimate smoking gun of GOP election fraud. For example, the 110% Bush 2000 voter turnout in 2004 (calculation Method 1):
