And now Washington says it'll help the Chadians... hard for the Nigerians to say no, now that Baga has made some (though still little, given what it was) impact on the global consciousness.

Mistrust between Nigeria, Cameroon stalls fight against Boko Haram

By Bate Felix

DAKAR Tue Jan 20, 2015 11:41am EST

(Reuters) - Mistrust between Nigeria and neighboring Cameroon as well as disagreements over how to deploy troops against Boko Haram have stalled efforts to set up a regional force to combat the Islamist militants.

Failure to launch the 2,800-strong mission as planned in November has left the insurgents in control of large swathes of Nigeria's north east from where they launch attacks.

The group, which aims to carve out an Islamist emirate in northern Nigeria, carried out a scorched-earth raid this month on Baga, a town on the shores of the Lake Chad that was due to serve as the headquarters for the regional force.

The fall of Baga and reports of the slaughter of up to 2,000 inhabitants underscore the risks of Nigeria and Cameroon failing to work together.

Amid mounting international alarm, Ghana's President John Mahama, chairman of the West Africa regional bloc ECOWAS, said leaders would press the African Union next week to create a multinational force.

But countries of the Lake Chad region are still expected to form the backbone of any mission. Defense and foreign ministers from the four nations were meeting in Niamey on Tuesday but analysts do not expect a breakthrough on deployment.

For joint military action to succeed, the countries must bury their differences and pool troops and intelligence under a unified command, experts and diplomats said.

"The principal thing that has been stopping this multi-national force from coming about has been the historical distrust and underlying tensions between the two key players: Nigeria and Cameroon," said Imad Mesdoua, an analyst with the London-based Africa Matters consultancy.

DANGER

The four nations of the Lake Chad Basin -- Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria -- agreed to bring their forces together to fight Boko Haram in October, together with a contingent from Benin, which borders Nigeria to the west.

But disagreements surfaced over how to deploy the troops. Cameroon insisted that, because Boko Haram was an internal Nigerian issue, foreign troops should not be sent into the country, diplomats and military officials said.

Yaounde was also concerned about allowing Nigeria's army to chase Boko Haram into its territory because of its soldiers' poor human rights record, another diplomat said.

Nigeria says Cameroon has been too passive in the fight against the insurgents and allowed Boko Haram to use its territory as a rear base and supply route.

That appears to have changed, with Cameroon's elite Rapid Intervention Brigade clashing with the insurgents almost daily.

Ghana's President Mahama says the growing threat is forcing Lake Chad countries towards cooperation.

"Mistrust is one of the obstacles but I think that with the clear and present danger most countries face if something was not done about Boko Haram, we have reached the point where they are willing to work together," he said.

However, neighboring countries blame Nigeria's military shortcomings. In October, it was agreed that regional troops in Baga would play a defensive role at the border while Nigerian forces would attack Boko Haram within its territory.

But Niamey pulled its troops from Baga after the Nigerian army lost town after town to Boko Haram and its soldiers fled into Niger.

"Even early on, it became apparent that the Nigerian troops were somewhat avoiding battles and were not vigorously taking on Boko Haram offensives," a senior military officer in Niamey said. "Chad and Niger decided to withdraw their troops from Baga, unwilling to serve as cannon fodder."

Nigerian defense ministry spokesman Gen. Chris Olukolade, taking questions on Twitter, denied the military leadership was "corrupt and incompetent" and said the armed forces were "highly patriotic and committed".

FED UP

Following a lull in attacks between late October and early November, Nigeria announced a surprise ceasefire with the group, brokered by Chad. However, it was rejected by Boko Haram, which stepped up its attacks.

Ahead of Nigeria's Feb. 14 presidential election, the army has been on the back foot rather than preparing counter offensives, Mesdoua said.

This has allowed Boko Haram to stage attacks with increased fire power in Cameroon, angering officials in Yaounde who accuse Nigeria of abandoning the fight.

"We're getting fed up with the situation. Nigeria has to take its responsibilities," Cameroon army spokesman Colonel Didier Badjeck said. "We cannot continue to support the weight of a war which we don't even know the whys and wherefores."

Badjeck said Nigerian forces were abandoning combat and leaving behind weapons later used by the militants to attack across the border.

Cameroon has appealed for international help, prompting Chad to send several hundred troops to the country over the weekend. Washington has pledged to support Cameroon and neighboring countries with military equipment and training.

France has promised to help coordinate intelligence-sharing and joint operations.

"The centrality of intelligence sharing and communication cannot be underestimated in a fight like this one," said Mesdoua. "They don’t talk one another or share information on what is happening in real time."

"Intelligence services of friendly countries." Why are the Nigerians not using this help? They have been offered it. Did the Germans pay a ransom? Did the Cameroonian soldiers cross the border?

German kidnapped in northern Nigeria released in Cameroon

YAOUNDE Wed Jan 21, 2015 5:26pm EST

(Reuters) - A German kidnapped by Boko Haram Islamist militants in northern Nigeria's Adamawa State in July has been released following an operation by Cameroon's military and its allies, the government said in a statement on Wednesday.

A Cameroon military aircraft carrying the hostage landed in Yaounde International Airport on Wednesday. A smiling Nitsch Eberhard Robert got out of the plane and shook hands with German and Cameroon government officials.

"I am happy to see all these people who rescued me and made sure I survived," Robert said before he was whisked away by officials.

The German embassy in Nigeria said he was a teacher undergoing vocational training in Gombi town in Adamawa state when he was kidnapped.

Boko Haram is fighting a bloody campaign to create an Islamic emirate in northern Nigeria. It has also carried out a number of kidnappings in Nigeria and across the border in Cameroon, with reports of ransom being paid for hostages.

Cameroon President Paul Biya, who has deployed special forces along the border to counter increasing Boko Haram incursions, said in the statement that the hostage was freed after a military operation.

"A special operation of the Cameroon armed forces and security services of friendly countries led this night to the release of Nitsch Eberhard Robert, German citizen, abducted in July 2014 in Nigeria by Boko Haram," the statement from Cameroon's presidency said.

He's even got an evil laugh. I thought "Hollande, the grandson of Charlie" was interesting - Charlie Hebdo, or Charlie de Gaulle? Relevant to a video aimed at the presidents of Niger, Cameroon and Chad.

BREAKING: Armed Drone Crash Lands In Dumge, Borno State, Nigeria [PICTURES]

A drone crashed in Dumge village in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State this afternoon.
Dumge is about 30kms North-East of Maiduguri.

Image

The drone that landed in Borno today was armed with rockets and a full military drone.

NewsRescue has been unable to verify more on this suspicious drone as we received the reports from our secret sources who got the images and reports but lack significant capacity to pry deep.

Nigeria is not known to be utilizing drones in the war against Boko Haram.

The United States is only flying surveillance drones over Nigeria.

This full size, 20 feet wing span military drone must be operated from a military base, possibly in a neighboring nation.

The drone from preliminary NewsRescue investigation looks like a weapons fitted MALE US Army MQ-1C Gray Eagle.

Image

Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki has said in UK last week that Chad has links with Boko Haram leadership.

Armed drones of this nature cost upwards of $400,000.

Maiduguri, capital of Borno state was just attacked Sunday by Boko Haram terrorists in an attacks analysts describe as as a diversion, while the terrorists captured Monguno (population 100,000), 85 kilometers northward of Maiduguri, seizing a military barracks and the ammunition held.

Mafa is between Boko Haram captured Monguno and Maiduguri.

Drones and jets and choppers have been reported used by Boko Haram against the Nigerian army and Civilian-JTF in recent attacks including the attack that saw over 2500 killed in Muslim predominant Baga and Doro towns at the border with Chad.

Armed drones of this nature are sophisticated war equipment, piloted and operated by skilled operators in control centers. This find brings new extremely troubling dimensions to the Boko Haram terror and insurgency war against Nigeria. It further confirms the invasion being a foreign campaign.

We have yet been unable to get a reaction from the Nigerian military.

This news is highly sensitive and being further investigated. Please stay tuned…

I have no doubt that this is true.

But, on spin and psyops: Amnesty International is where the figure of 2,000 dead is from, pulled almost out of thin air (all witnesses that I've read interviews with have said there is no way to estimate how many people made it and how many didn't). More reason to think that Washington is going to rig the election for Buhari.

Nigeria: Nigerian authorities were warned of Boko Haram attacks on Baga and Monguno

28 January 2015
Image
Satellite image showing the extent of damage in Doron Baga taken on 7 Jan 2015, following an attack by Boko Haram

New evidence shows that the Nigerian military were repeatedly warned of impending Boko Haram attacks on Baga and Monguno which claimed hundreds of lives, and failed to take adequate action to protect civilians, said Amnesty International.

According to a senior military source and other evidence gathered by Amnesty International, commanders at the military base in Baga regularly informed military headquarters in November and December 2014 of the threat of a Boko Haram attack and repeatedly requested reinforcements. Other military sources and witnesses have told Amnesty International that the military in Monguno had an advanced warning of the Boko Haram attack on 25 January.

“It is clear from this evidence that Nigeria’s military leadership woefully and repeatedly failed in their duty to protect civilians of Baga and Monguno despite repeated warnings about an impending threat posed by Boko Haram,” said Netsanet Belay, Amnesty International’s Africa director.

“These attacks are an urgent wake-up call for the Nigerian leadership, the African Union and the international community. It is essential to protect hundreds of thousands of civilians in north east Nigeria from Boko Haram’s continued onslaught.”

According to a senior military source, long before the attack on Baga, the Multinational Joint Task Force based in the town informed military headquarters in Abuja about sightings of Boko Haram patrols and build-ups of Boko Haram fighters. They also told headquarters ahead of the attacks, that civilians in surrounding towns and villages were fleeing the area in large numbers.

Speaking about the attack on Baga, Dogon Baga and surrounding towns and villages, one military source told Amnesty International: "This attack was expected because Boko Haram warned the inhabitants of Baga and surrounding villages almost two months ago that they would be coming to attack the troops and the civilian JTF [Joint Task Force]." Sources told Amnesty International that after the Baga attack on 3 January, Boko Haram members informed locals that their “next target is Monguno,” and that these civilians informed the local military.

One Monguno resident told Amnesty International: “There was a warning. Everyone was aware. Boko Haram came on Wednesday last week [21 January] and asked the villagers [in nearby Ngurno] to leave because they are coming to attack the barracks. The villagers told the soldiers.”

Nigerian authorities have a responsibility to take all feasible measures to protect the civilian population, including by assisting with an evacuation of those who wished to flee and transporting them to safer areas. They also have a responsibility to inform civilians of risks and dangers. According to witnesses, the local military did not make an effort to do this.

On 29 January, the African Union’s Peace and Security Council is expected to discuss the deployment of a possible regional force against Boko Haram.

“If such a force were to be deployed it is vital that it has a clear mandate to protect civilians and that all parties engaging in military deployment comply with international humanitarian law and international human rights law,” said Netsanet Belay.

Background Information

On 25 January, Boko Haram captured Monguno and also attacked Maiduguri and Konduga. Until the attack on Maiduguri was repelled by security forces, Boko Haram had effectively cut off any routes that civilians could have used to flee Boko Haram controlled territory.

On 15 January Amnesty International released satellite images providing indisputable and shocking evidence of the scale of the attack on the towns of Baga and Doron Baga by Boko Haram militants. The before and after images of two neighbouring towns, Baga (160 kilometres from Maiduguri) and Doron Baga (also known as Doro Gowon, 2.5 km from Baga), taken on 2 and 7 January showed the devastating effect of the attacks which left over 3,700 structures damaged or completely destroyed. Other nearby towns and villages were also attacked over this period.

Since 2009, Boko Haram has deliberately targeted civilians through raids, abductions and bomb attacks with attacks increasing in frequency and severity. The effects on the civilian population have been devastating with thousands killed, hundreds abducted and hundreds of thousands forced to leave their homes.

Amnesty International has raised concerns on a number of occasions that security forces are not doing enough to protect civilians from human rights abuses committed by Boko Haram. There have been very few effective investigations and prosecutions of Boko Haram members for crimes under international law.

The Baga and Maiduguri attacks demonstrates how the conflict has dramatically escalated in the last 12 months. Amnesty International’s research indicates that in 2014 at least 4,000 civilians were killed by Boko Haram and the actual number is likely to be higher.

It Seems a Chinese Missile Drone Just Crashed in Nigeria

Is Beijing selling killer robots in Africa?

by ADAM RAWNSLEY

The wreckage of an armed drone turned up in northeast Nigeria on Tuesday near the epicenter of the West African country’s violent Islamist insurgency.

The drone looks Chinese. And that’s a very big deal.

Pictures of the wreckage posted on Twitter show an unmanned combat aerial vehicle that closely resembles the CH-3 drone made by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. Missiles fixed to two hardpoints and a sensor payload are all apparent in the images.

Reports place the crash near the village of Dumge in Nigeria’s northeast Borno state.

China’s CH-3 drone, which made its debut at the 2008 Zhuhai Air Show, can reportedly carry two laser-guided AR-1 air-to-ground missiles, similar to the U.S. Hellfire missile.

If the drone is indeed Chinese, it could be there to aid Nigeria’s war against Islamist group Boko Haram.

Nigeria has aggressively sought aircraft to help wage a counterinsurgency war against the terror group.

In the wake of Boko Haram’s highly-publicized kidnapping of more than 270 schoolgirls in the spring of 2014, Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan asked parliament for an extra billion dollars — on top of the $6 billion in the country’s defense budget — to pay for new military hardware.

Nigeria’s military hoped that a sale of Cobra helicopter gunships from Israel would provide the new air power. But The New York Times reported that U.S. pressure on Israel to nix the deal ended the proposed sale last summer.

According to the Times, the U.S. doubted the Nigerian military’s ability to maintain the helicopters—or take proper care to avoid civilian casualties with their use.

Concerns about the Nigerian military’s human rights records have complicated America’s efforts to work with Abuja in its fight against Islamist terrorism. Commandos from U.S. Army Africa offered to train Nigerian commandos. But in early December, the U.S. abruptly canceled a training program because of mounting discomfort with the Nigerian military’s human rights abuses.

In August, Amnesty International released footage of what appeared to be Nigerian soldiers conducting summary executions of suspected Boko Haram members in the country’s northeast.

But for all of Washington’s hesitance about providing weapons and training to Nigeria’s military, there’s other suppliers in the arms market who are less discriminating about who they sell to. China’s development of sophisticated and—relatively—cheaper drones has also encouraged customers in the developing world.

“The United States doesn’t export many attack drones, so we’re taking advantage of that hole in the market,” a Chinese aerospace official once told The Washington Post.

China reportedly offered to sell the CH-3 UCAV to Pakistan. Pakistan has since produced two drones, the Burraq and Shahpar, which appear very similar to the CH-3, although officials claim to have developed the aircraft indigenously.

Officials from China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation have stated that the company developed the CH-4—another UCAV in the company’s family of drones—with exports in mind. Algeria has expressed interest in purchasing the aircraft.

There are also rumors that China sold the Pterodactyl, a medium-altitude, long-endurance drone which bears a striking resemblance to America’s Predator drone, to some five countries, including Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates.

The Yilong is capable of carrying air-to-ground missiles and guided bombs.

But despite the similarities in appearance between China’s CH-3 UCAV and the wreckage in Nigeria, confirmation of a sale between the two countries is still lacking.

Regardless, the presence of an apparently armed drone in the midst of Nigeria’s conflict with Islamist rebels illustrates that UAVs are an increasingly in-demand weapon—and that further proliferation is likely.

It does look more like the CH-3 than like the US one - the wing shape and the shape of the landing gear match.

BH has captured helicopters, but you don't just teach yourself to fly one. And the aircraft over Monguno might have been Nigerian, just checking to see how the massacre was going.

We Saw Helicopters Dropping Supplies, Arms to Boko Haram; They [soldiers, not choppers] Were Mostly Chadians – IDPs

Published On: Thu, Jan 29th, 2015

Displaced residents of Monguno, in Borno State, which was recently taken over by Boko Haram, have said they saw helicopters dropping arms and food items for the insurgents in the bushes.

The IDPs, who said they spent about 48 hours in the bush running towards Maiduguri, expressed worry that the Boko Haram sect was not the only ones involved in the insurgency, but that there are many foreign fighters and some external supports.

Leader of the Nigeria Vigilante Group in Monguno, Muhammed Sani,50, said he had, on several occasions, spotted unusual delivery of items in big wooden boxes by air, and sacks being dropped in the bushes around Marte and Monguno where Boko Haram terrorists were camped.

“Even during the attack on Monguno, there was an aircraft that came but did not do anything, not even dropping a single bomb before it left; then another one later came around the Monguno barracks and we saw four men alighting from the aircraft, using a rope. The aircraft left, but we doubt if they were soldiers.

“Even before then, some of my colleagues and I have been sighting helicopters dropping items in sacks and some in boxes to them at the camp of Boko Haram near Chikungudu and Kwalaram villages. Many helicopters came to drop items packed in boxes and sacks to the Boko Haram insurgents at a bush camp between Monguno and Marte; then we would see the Boko Haram gunmen rushing to the spot to pick the dropped items,” he stated.

The displaced vigilante officials said those that attacked Monguno comprised hundreds of foreigners who looked like Chadians.

“Many of them looked like Chadian Arabs – they were light-skinned with coiled hair, and there were many young men from Monguno – who Boko Haram had abducted when Nganzai was attacked last year – that were now active members of the sect.

“While Boko Haram members that are former youths of Monguno were leading other insurgents to attack Monguno town, the foreigners were the ones engaging soldiers near the barracks,” he explained.

Sani, who said he had lived in Monguno for the past 20 years, said he fled amidst the hail of bullets when the terrorists became irritated by his anti-bullet charms that rendered bullets ineffective. His shirt and trousers were riddled by bullets, yet he remained unhurt, he said.

Nigeria’s president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan promised the nation’s National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki that he “will make him Sultan of Sokoto,” the nation’s highest ruling northern and Muslim leader.

This promise and assurance in addition to fears Dasuki has over billions in funds for security he has coveted and he knows the Buhari/Osinbajo authentic regime will investigate him for, is the powerful impetus behind his cooperation and indeed front stage role in orchestrating the coup of the 7th of February.

Sambo Dasuki’s family though heir to the throne is not the prominent family favored for the throne on most rotations.

Sambo Dasuki’s father we recollect, Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki was abruptly deposed from the seat by the Abacha government in 1996. This has not sat well with the Sambo family and NSA Sambo Dasuki holds vendetta against the state of Nigeria.

How Goodluck Jonathan will impose Dasuki on the post is to be imagined.

Sometimes Sultans are killed and sometimes they are fired as happened to Dasuki’s father.

The selection of the Sultan is ultimately done by the State government, but the presidency can sponsor and blackmail to impose its wishes, as the Jonathan government attempted in the Kano case. However it is said that president Goodluck Jonathan has determinedly promised Sambo Dasuki will soon inherit the throne currently occupied by Sultan Saadu Abubakar, son of Siddiq Abubakar III who inherited the throne from his elder brother, Muhammadu Maccido.

Though they are sons of Uthman Danfodio, the Dasuki family is not a favorite for the throne in Sokoto and this could explain why the NSA can do anything to occupy the throne. Dasuki our links say, finds him self with two choices: jail and possible death under Buhari who he (Dasuki) arrested and vandalized his home including destroying his marriage as well as seized and destroyed his certificates in the 80s or Sultan under Jonathan.

There is a massive billion dollars corruption on defense contracts perpetuated by Sambo Dasuki under the guise of purchasing military equipment for the armed forces.

1. He purchased refurbished MI Helicopters as new for the Nigerian Airforce from Belarus at the cost of $84 million per one which the market value is $15 million two have already crashed and killed the pilots.

2. He purchased a substandard UAV (Drones) from China at an exorbitant rate of $260 million as against a brand new UAV which was offered to Nigeria by Elbit Systems of Israel who are the pioneers and leading UAV Manufacturers in the world at a lower cost of $16.5 million per one and the Chinese UAV crashed on its maiden flight at Mafa village in Borno State.

3. He purchased and install a Command and Control Centre in his office from an Israeli company called NICE at an exorbitant price of $80 million which the market value is put at $15 million. His office is not an Operational Agency by law as it serves only as an advisory role to the Presidency on security and intelligence matters so he doesn’t need a Command and Control Centre and since its installation it has never worked.

4. He has done a deal with the Tchadian and Nigerien Governments to pay them cash to fight the Boko Haram on behalf of Nigeria which he collected huge amount of money and pay them peanuts.

5. The South African money for arms scandal

These are the main reasons why Sambo Dasuki is scared stiff of Buhari’s Presidency and was also forced to play the psychopathic role he is playing now.

Is Boko Haram a CIA Covert Op to Divide and Conquer Africa?

The objectives of the US military presence in Africa are well documented: counter Chinese influence and control strategic locations and natural resources including oil reserves. This was confirmed more than 8 years ago by the US State Department:

In 2007, US State Department advisor Dr. J. Peter Pham commented on AFRICOM’s strategic objectives of “protecting access to hydrocarbons and other strategic resources which Africa has in abundance, a task which includes ensuring against the vulnerability of those natural riches and ensuring that no other interested third parties, such as China, India, Japan, or Russia, obtain monopolies or preferential treatment.” (Nile Bowie, CIA Covert Ops in Nigeria: Fertile Ground for US Sponsored Balkanization Global Research, 11 April 2012)

At the beginning of February, AFRICOM’s “head General David Rodriguez called for a large-scale US-led ‘counterinsurgency’ campaign against groups in West Africa during remarks at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC:

In similar remarks at a the US Army West Point academy last week, US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) chief General Joseph Votel said that US commando teams must prepare for new deployments against Boko Haram and the Islamic State. ” (Thomas Gaist, US AFRICOM Commander Calls for “Huge” Military Campaign in West Africa, World Socialist Web Site, February 02, 2015)

Mark P. Fancher highlighted the hypocrisy and the “imperialist arrogance” of western countries, which “notwithstanding the universal condemnation of colonialism”, are evermore willing “to publicly declare (without apologies) their plans to expand and coordinate their military presence in Africa.” (Mark P. Fancher, Arrogant Western Military Coordination and the New/Old Threat to Africa, Black Agenda Report, 4 February 2015)

Now more troops from Benin, Cameroon, Niger, Nigeria and Chad are being sent to fight against Boko Haram.

This new war on yet another shadowy terrorist entity in Africa is reminiscent of the failed Kony 2012 propaganda campaign cloaked in humanitarian ideals. It is used as a smoke screen to avoid addressing the issue of the victims of the war on terror, the real causes of terrorism and to justify another military invasion. It is true that Boko Haram makes victims, however the goal of Western intervention in Africa is not to come to their rescue.

The deadliest conflict in the world since the Second World War and still raging is happening in Congo and the Western elite and its media couldn’t care less. That alone shows that military interventions are not intended to save lives.

To understand why the media focuses on Boko Haram, we need to know what it is and who is behind it. What is the underlying context, what interests are being served?

Is Boko Haram another US clandestine operation?

Boko Haram is based in northeast Nigeria, the most populated country and largest economy in Africa. Nigeria is the largest oil producer of the continent with 3.4% of the World’s reserves of crude oil.

In May 2014, African Renaissance News published an in-depth report on Boko Haram, wondering whether it could be another CIA covert operation to take control of Nigeria:

[T]he greatest prize for AFRICOM and its goal to plant a PAX AMERICANA in Africa would be when it succeeds in the most strategic African country, NIGERIA. This is where the raging issue of BOKO HARAM and the widely reported prediction by the United States Intelligence Council on the disintegration of Nigeria by 2015 comes into perspective…(Atheling P Reginald Mavengira, “Humanitarian Intervention” in Nigeria: Is the Boko Haram Insurgency Another CIA Covert Operation? Wikileaks, African Renaissance News, May 08, 2014)

In the 70′s an 80′s Nigeria assisted several African countries “in clear opposition and defiance to the interests of the United States and its western allies which resulted in a setback for Western initiatives in Africa at the time.” (Ibid.)

Nigeria exerted its influence in the region through the leadership of the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG, right), an army consisting of soldiers from various African countries and set up by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and which intervened in the Liberian civil war in the 90′s. Liberia was founded in 1821 by the US and led by American-Liberians for over a century.

The Western powers, first and foremost the US, are obviously not willing to let Africans have a multinational army in which they have no leading role. ACRI, which later became Africom, was formed in 2000 to contain Nigeria’s influence and counter ECOMOG, thus avoiding the emergence of an African military force led by Africans.

According to Wikileaks reports mentioned in Mavengira’s article above, the US embassy in Nigeria serves as an

“operating base for wide and far reaching acts of subversion against Nigeriawhich include but [are] not limited to eavesdropping on Nigerian government communication, financial espionage on leading Nigerians, support and funding of subversive groups and insurgents, sponsoring of divisive propaganda among the disparate groups of Nigeria and the use of visa blackmail to induce and coerce high ranking Nigerians into acting in favour of US interests.” (Mavengira, op., cit., emphasis added)

Mavengira is part of the GREENWHITE Coalition, “a citizen’s volunteer watchdog made up of Nigerians of all ethnic groups and religious persuasions.” He writes that the ultimate goal of the American clandestine operations in his country is “to eliminate Nigeria as a potential strategic rival to the US in the African continent.” (Ibid.)

An investigation into Boko Haram by the Greenwhite Coalition revealed that the “Boko Haram campaign is a covert operation organized by the American Central Intelligence Agency, CIA and coordinated by the American Embassy in Nigeria.” The U.S has used its embassy for covert operations before. The one in Benghazi was proven to be a base for a covert gun-running operation to arm the mercenaries fighting against Bashar Al-Assad in Syria. As for the embassy in Ukraine, a video from November 2013 emerged recently showing a Ukrainian parliamentarian exposing it as the central point of yet another clandestine operation designed to foment civil unrest and overthrow the democratically-elected government.

The Greenwhite Coalition report on Boko Haram reveals a three stage plan of the National Intelligence Council of the United States to “Pakistanize” Nigeria, internationalize the crisis and divide the country under a UN mandate and occupying force. The plan “predicts” Nigeria’s disintegration for 2015. It is worth quoting at length:

The whole [National Intelligence Council] report actually is a coded statement of intentions on how [by] using destabilization plots the US plans to eventually dismember Nigeria […]

Stage 1: Pakistanizing Nigeria

With the scourge of Boko Haram as an existential reality, in the coming months the spate of bombings and attacks on public buildings are likely to escalate.

The goal is to exacerbate tension and mutual suspicion among adherents of the two faiths in Nigeria and leading to sectarian violence [...]

Stage 2: Internationalizing the Crisis

[T]here will be calls from the United States, European Union and United Nations for a halt to the violence. [...] For effect, there will be carpet bombing coverage by the International media on the Nigerian crisis with so-called experts discussing all the ramifications who will strive to create the impression that only benevolent foreign intervention could resolve the crisis.

Stage 3: The Great Carve out under UN Mandate

There will be proposals first for an international peace keeping force to intervene and separate the warring groups and or for a UN mandate for various parts of Nigeria to come under mandated occupying powers. Of course behind the scenes the US and its allies would have secretly worked out which areas of Nigeria to occupy guided as it were by naked economic interests […] (Ibid., emphasis added)

In 2012, Nile Bowie wrote:

The Nigerian Tribune has reported that Boko Haram receives funding from different groups from Saudi Arabia and the UK, specifically from the Al-Muntada Trust Fund, headquartered in the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia’s Islamic World Society [8]. During an interview conducted by Al-Jazeera with Abu Mousab Abdel Wadoud, the AQIM leader states that Algeria-based organizations have provided arms to Nigeria’s Boko Haram movement “to defend Muslims in Nigeria and stop the advance of a minority of Crusaders” [9].

It remains highly documented that members of Al-Qaeda (AQIM) and the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) who fought among the Libyan rebels directly received arms [10] and logistical support [11] from NATO bloc countries during the Libyan conflict in 2011[...]

As covertly supporting terrorist organizations to achieve foreign policy aims appears to be the commanding prerequisite of foreign policy operations under the Obama Administration, Boko Haram exists as a separate arm of the US destabilization apparatus, aimed at shattering Africa’s most populous nation and biggest potential market. (Nile Bowie, CIA Covert Ops in Nigeria: Fertile Ground for US Sponsored Balkanization Global Research, 11 April 2012)

Reports also indicate that some Nigerian commanders may be involved in fuelling the insurgency.

According to the report, a Nigerian soldier in Borno state confirmed that Boko Haram attacked Gamboru Ngala in their presence but their commander asked them not to repel the attack. The soldier told BBC Hausa Service that choppers hovered in the air while the attacks were ongoing. 300 people were killed, houses and a market burnt while soldiers watched and were ordered not to render assistance to those being attacked. The soldier said that the Boko Haram insurgency will end when superior officers in the army cease to fuel it.

At the abductions of Chibok girls, one soldier in an interview told SaharaReporters,

“…we were ordered to arrest vehicles carrying the girls but just as we started the mission, another order was issued that we should pull back. I can assure you, nobody gave us any directives to look for anybody.”

Some soldiers suspect that their commanders reveal military operations to the Boko Haram sect. (Audu Liberty Oseni, Who is Protecting Boko Haram. Is the Nigerian Government involved in a Conspiracy?, africanexecutive.com, May 28, 2014)

Could it be that these commanders have been coerced by elements in the U.S. embassy, as suggested by the aforementioned Greewhite Coalition investigation?

Boko Haram: The next chapter in the fraudulent, costly, destructive and murderous war on terror?

It has been clearly demonstrated that the so-called war on terror has increased terrorism. As Nick Turse explained:

[Ten] years after Washington began pouring taxpayer dollars into counterterrorism and stability efforts across Africa and its forces first began operating from Camp Lemonnier [Djibouti], the continent has experienced profound changes, just not those the U.S. sought. The University of Birmingham’s Berny Sèbe ticks off post-revolutionary Libya, the collapse of Mali, the rise of Boko Haram in Nigeria, the coup in the Central African Republic, and violence in Africa’s Great Lakes region as evidence of increasing volatility. “The continent is certainly more unstable today than it was in the early 2000s, when the U.S. started to intervene more directly,” he told me. (Nick Turse, The Terror Diaspora: The U.S. Military and Obama’s Scramble for Africa, Tom Dispatch, June 18, 2013)

What exactly does the U.S. seek in Africa?

When it comes to overseas interventions, decades of history have shown that the stated intents of the U.S. Army are never its real intents. The real intent is never to save humans, but always to save profits and power. US-NATO interventions do not save. They kill.

US-led interventions since the beginning of the century have killed hundreds of thousands, if not over a million innocent people. It’s hard to tell because NATO does not really want to know how many civilians it kills. As The Guardian noted in August 2011, except for a brief period, there was “no high-profile international project dedicated to recording deaths in the Libya conflict”.

In February 2014, “at least 21,000 civilians [were] estimated to have died violent deaths as a result of the war” in Afghanistan according to Cost of War. As for Iraq, by May 2014 “at least 133,000 civilians [were] killed by direct violence since the invasion.”

As for Libya, the mainstream media first lied about the fact that Gaddafi initiated the violence by attacking peaceful protesters, a false narrative intended to demonize Gaddafi and galvanize public opinion in favour of yet another military intervention. As the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs reported, “violence was actually initiated by the protesters.”

It stated further:

The government responded to the rebels militarily but never intentionally targeted civilians or resorted to “indiscriminate” force, as Western media claimed […]

The biggest misconception about NATO’s intervention is that it saved lives and benefited Libya and its neighbors. In reality, when NATO intervened in mid-March 2011, Qaddafi already had regained control of most of Libya, while the rebels were retreating rapidly toward Egypt. Thus, the conflict was about to end, barely six weeks after it started, at a toll of about 1,000 dead, including soldiers, rebels, and civilians caught in the crossfire. By intervening, NATO enabled the rebels to resume their attack, which prolonged the war for another seven months and caused at least 7,000 more deaths. (Alan Kuperman, Lessons from Libya: How Not to Intervene, Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, September 2013)

Despite these figures, the media will once again try to convince us that what the world needs most at the moment is to get rid of the terrorist group Boko Haram and that a military intervention is the only solution, even though the so-called war on terror has actually increased terrorism globally. As Washington’s Blog pointed out in 2013, “global terrorism had been falling from 1992 until 2004… but has been skyrocketing since 2004.”

The Guardian reported back in November 2014:

The Global Terrorism Index recorded almost 18,000 deaths last year, a jump of about 60% over the previous year. Four groups were responsible for most of them: Islamic State (Isis) in Iraq and Syria; Boko Haram in Nigeria; the Taliban in Afghanistan; and al-Qaida in various parts of the world. (Ewen MacAskill, Fivefold increase in terrorism fatalities since 9/11, says report, The Guardian, November, 18, 2014)

What the Guardian fails to mention is that all these groups, including Boko Haram and the Islamic State, have been, in one way or another, armed, trained and financed by the US-NATO alliance and their allies in the Middle East.

Thanks to the covert support of Western countries, arms dealers and bankers profiting from killing and destruction, the war on terror is alive and well. The West advocates for endless military interventions, pretending to ignore the real causes of terrorism and the reason why it expands, hiding its role in it and thereby clearly showing its real intent: fuelling terrorism to destabilize and destroy nations, thus justifying military invasion and achieving their conquest of the African continent’s richest lands under the pretext of saving the world from terror.

Thanks MinM - I'm looking for more details on that plan from the 'Greenwhite Coalition' or in fact for more detail about what that actually is. The strategic focus for the US is certainly China, but its relationship with France is not mentioned, and is very often competitive, especially on oil (Total vs Chevron), oil field services (Halliburton vs Schlumberger) and arms dealing. The following looks like just an arms deal, but could be something more, as the Chadians, who are leading this fight, are tighter with Paris and are making serious inroads against BH.

U.S. to support Cameroon military in Boko Haram fight
YAOUNDE Wed Feb 18, 2015 5:06am EST

(Reuters) - The United States will help Cameroon's army secure equipment to fight Boko Haram, its embassy in Cameroon said on Wednesday, as it deepens its commitment to countering the jihadist group.

Boko Haram militants have killed and kidnapped thousands in a six-year insurgency in Nigeria and are stepping up cross-border attacks on neighbors despite a major regional offensive against them.

In the latest strike, guerrillas ambushed an army patrol near the town of Waza in Cameroon this week and an intense gun battle ensued, killing five soldiers.

"My government is working on a logistic pipeline of material that will enhance Cameroon's ability to defend itself from Boko Haram," U.S. ambassador to Cameroon Michael Stephen Hoza said in a notice published in a local paper on Wednesday.

He did not elaborate on what would be provided, saying only that it would be "equipment necessary to defend the country".

Earlier this week, the commander of U.S. Special Forces operations in Africa pledged to help African nations in the fight against the group.

Major General James Linder said the United States would provide technology allowing African partners to communicate between cellphones, radios and computers.

edit - and, obviously, this is a back door into the communications and surveillance systems of five countries (although they probably have that already?)

US offers support to tackle Boko Haram
By Konye Obaji Ori

The United States, which does not want to sell arms to Nigerian, has pledged to share communications equipment and intelligence with Lagos to aid its fight against Islamist group Boko Haram.

According to Major General Linder, Commander of United States Special Forces operations in Africa, Washington would introduce technology allowing African countries fighting Boko Haram to communicate between cellphones, radios and computers.

We need support in terms of intelligence and logistics

"Our national leadership has been very clear that more was going to be done ... There is an ongoing discussion on how we will provide additional tools, techniques, and material to partner nations," Linder was quoted as saying.

The pledge was made ahead of the United States command's annual "Flintlock" counter-terrorism exercises in Chad.

West African military commanders had complained that the lack of compatible communications equipment had made it difficult to swap information and coordinate military operations against militants.

"We need support in terms of intelligence and logistics, above all in communication because the equipment we have comes from different countries, and their support will make our task much easier," Chadian director of the Flintlock exercises, Brigadier General Zakaria Ngobongue, told Reuters.

"The Americans have aerial capabilities that we do not have."

The proposed communication assistance involves systems that would allow West African soldiers in the field to transmit photos from remote locations in the Sahel immediately to a central command room.

West African soldiers would be able to precisely pin-point the coordinates of personnel.

The United States military will also be introducing a "cloud-based" technology to allow African allies to quickly share intelligence across borders, such as mapping information on the location of potential targets.

Linder told reporters that African armies were well placed to gather this kind of information, but the United States could share other kinds of intelligence to boost the success of operations against Boko Haram.

About 1,300 soldiers from 28 African and Western nations are in attendance at the ninth edition of Flintlock in Chad.

This year's Flintlock assembly will focus on the importance of troops fostering strong relations with local communities to gain intelligence on insurgent groups.

According to the United States command, Washington's long-term goal is to enable African countries to be sufficiently trained and equipped to face their own security challenges.

Nigeria, Chad, Niger, Cameroon, and Benin are preparing a joint task-force of 8,700 men to take on Boko Haram.

Last year, Boko Haram killed an estimated 10,000 people in its campaign to carve an Islamist emirate from northern Nigeria.

On Tuesday the group's leader, Abubakar Shekau, appeared in a video monitored by the United States.-based SITE Intelligence Group in which he threatened to disrupt upcoming Nigerian elections.

Chad's military played a leading role in a French-led campaign that ousted Islamist groups from northern Mali in 2013, and is prepared to lead attacks against Boko Haram positions in Nigeria's border regions.

France, Cameroun Lock Horns over Captured French Boko Haram Fighters
20 Feb 2015
Senator Iroegbu in Abuja with agency report

• Arrest proves sect has European members
• Bama, Baga about to be liberated as more insurgents are slayed in Sambisa, Gwoza
• Chad inflicts more casualties on terror group

Following the capture of eight French nationals who are members of the terror group Boko Haram, a diplomatic spat has ensued between France and Cameroun, which has insisted on trying the terror suspects.

A top Nigerian intelligence source opened up to THISDAY on the brewing diplomatic tensions between France and one of her Francophone allies in the sub-region following the shocking discovery that some French citizens are staunch members of the sect, a throwback to their membership of the terror group, Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

According to findings, France was reported to have chided her former colony for insisting on trying the terrorists in Cameroun instead of handing them over to the French authorities.

Enraged by the audacity of Cameroun to hold its citizens, the French Foreign Minister, Mr. [Laurent Fabius], was alleged to have ordered that the suspects be handed over to the European country with immediate effect.

However, Camerounian authorities were said to have felt slighted and have protested the manner in which France had demanded the release of its nationals.

A Camerounian minister was quoted to have said: “Mr. Lauren Fabuci, the French Foreign Minister, has ordered Cameroun to release immediately eight Europeans captured by our security men, for being part of Boko Haram terrorists.

“Mr. Fabuci demanded their immediate handover to France so that they can prosecute the terrorists on French soil, ignoring our sovereignty and independence.

“The French are acting as if Cameroun is their errand boy that they can order around and ignore the fact that we have our own laws with which we can try the terrorists.”

The latest revelation has lent credence to strong suspicions in the Nigerian intelligence community that Boko Haram has strong foreign backing.

When contacted on the discovery of French nationals who had joined the terror sect, the Director of Defence Information, Major-General Chris Olukolade, said it was a matter for the parties involved to sort themselves out.

“All I can tell you is that the matter is for Camerounian and French authorities to settle,” Olukolade stated.

However, a top military officer said the Nigerian intelligence community had previously warned of a growing foreign collaboration with Boko Haram.

He said other than Chadians, Boko Haram has a large presence of Arabs, Malians and other Islamists who have joined the sect.

“Now we have seen evidence of French and European participation. This is one major indication that Boko Haram has very active and sophisticated foreign backing. I advise that the African Union should take this up.

“France is trying to silence the Camerounians but Africa must rise to the occasion and take this findings seriously. They must not keep quiet,” the military source said.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian military has continued its onslaught to rid the North-east of Boko Haram terrorists, as a concerted air campaign by the Nigerian Air Force has resulted in the death of a large number of Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.

This is coming just as military sources informed THISDAY that the boundary town of Baga and to some extent Bama, might have been liberated, save for few pockets of resistance by Boko Haram elements and mop-up operations in both towns.

According to a statement yesterday by the spokesman of the Defence Headquarters, Major-General Olukolade, “A concerted air campaign by the Nigerian Air Force is ongoing in furtherance of the mission to clear terrorists from all their enclaves.

“The air strikes which today (yesterday) targeted the training camps and logistics dumps of the terrorists in Sambisa forest and parts of Gwoza have been highly successful as it achieved the aim with required precision.

“The death of a large number of terrorists has been recorded, while many others are also scampering all over the forest and out of the struck bases. Details of casualty will be determined in subsequent phases of the operation.”

Olukolade said the strikes would continue in other locations of the theatre of war, heralding the advance of troops and other elements of the mission.

In the same vein, the Nigerian military buoyed by the joint offensive of neighbouring Chad and Cameroun, is set to complete the liberation of other strategic towns in Borno State.

A top intelligence source informed THISDAY that Baga followed by Bama would soon be freed from the firm grip of the terrorists.

“There are some small details to be taken care of, but the operations have been largely successful. You will soon hear the cheering news from the appropriate authorities.

“The Baga liberation is almost complete and mop-up operation phase is already ongoing," the source said. Also, the insurgents suffered heavy casualties when Chadian troops pushed into Nigeria this week, residents who fled the fighting told AFP yesterday.

Chad’s army said Tuesday evening that they had taken control of the town of Dikwa, which is about 50 kilometres (31 miles) southwest of the Nigerian border town of Gamboru.

The offensive deep inside Nigerian territory was a first and suggested strategy to tackle other rebel-controlled areas in Borno State, which is the terror group’s stronghold.

The Chadians are part of a four-country coalition mounting a regional fight-back against the Islamists.

“Chadian soldiers took over Dikwa from Boko Haram after heavy fighting on Tuesday,” Bababura Diwa, who lives in the town, said by telephone from Fotokol, across the border in northern Cameroun.

Diwa said the Chadians came from Gamboru, which they had previously recaptured, with heavy artillery power and overpowered a group of militants at Lomani village, 15 kilometres from Dikwa.

“When they came into Dikwa, there was intense fighting but at last they subdued the Boko Haram fighters,” he added.

“They killed many of them, including Abu Ashshe, their commander, who was notorious for seizing cattle in the area. “I used the opportunity provided by the presence of the Chadian troops to leave the town. I was afraid to leave when Boko Haram took over the town for fear of being branded a traitor and killed,” he said.

Diwa's account was backed by several other residents, who took advantage of the Chadian advance to flee the ancient town, which is near Boko Haram’s makeshift camps in the Sambisa Forest.

Jidda Saleh, another resident, said Chadian troops launched heavy aerial and ground attacks on the Kala-Balge area, particularly on Nduwu village, which he said was a “major Boko Haram stronghold”. “The whole village was bombarded and it is obvious Boko Haram suffered heavy casualties from the aerial attack. Ground troops moved in later,” he added.

“Meleri, which has a huge Boko Haram concentration, was also bombed by Chadian military jets and then taken over by ground troops. “By the time we left, we learnt the Chadian soldiers were on their way to Kushimori village where Boko Haram keep the livestock they seize from people.

“They have kept thousands of livestock there. They sunk boreholes and recruited people to rear the animals for them,” Saleh said.

Algoni Wal-Amire, another Kala-Balge resident, welcomed the offensive. “Living under Boko Haram was like living in a minefield. You are always afraid your next step could be your last. I thank God I'm now safe from them,” he said.

Re: Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau(s) WARNING images of dead bo

Postby stefano » Tue Feb 24, 2015 3:37 am

Ha, this is pretty funny. I'm looking forward to hearing the explanations of how this one is the real deal after all. If this is true: 'NR' is NewsRescue, a very firmly partisan (and probably sponsored) media outfit.

Boko Haram Leader, “Abubakar Shekau” Reportedly In Nigerian Govt Custody

Feb 23, 2015

NR Intelligence sources have leaked that the Nigerian government with its Chadian partners have captured a current “Abubakar Shekau,” leader character of the Boko Haram sect.

Our sources did not tell us exactly when he was detained, however he said categorically that “we have Shekau and he is alive.”

The Nigerian army and unusually the president himself this week promised to capture “Shekau” alive before the March 28th elections.
Meanwhile, an authentic leak has informed us that Shekau is currently being drilled and fed a confession statement to be made when he is recorded on the “battle field” being “captured” and interrogated. The confession is to claim opposition candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, is the sponsor of Boko Haram.
Curiously, the APC Campaign Organisation has also released a statement accusing the Federal Government of plotting to create a fake Shekau to score cheap political point and indict Buhari as the sponsor of the sect.

Our sources said that only an inner circle of intelligence chiefs were in on this plan, including the nation’s national security adviser, Sambo Dasuki. He said a video will soon be released in which Nigerian soldiers appear to be capturing Abubakar Shekau and as he is beaten in the video, he will accuse General Buhari and other top opposition candidates of being behind the sect. Dasuki has been promised to be made the Sultan of Sokoto by president Jonathan as we earlier reported.

Our sources said that this dangerous and desperate plan is to galvanize all fanatic religious support possible for the ruling PDP party. He said that the confession by the Boko Haram terrorist leader double is not expected to lead to an indictment as terrorist words are usually dismissed, but is to be used as widely propagated videos on the internet and via text files, in attempt to scare potential voters for General Buhari.

TERRIBLE DIMENSIONS, BUT NOT ENTIRELY NEW CONCEPT

The formal libelous accusation of opposition candidate and ‘integrity’ contestant, General Buhari is not new from the ruling camp. Ruling party spokesmen have propagated very serious accusations against his person; which as NewsRescue detailed, he promptly contested in court leading to the ruling PDP spokesmen retracting the claims after the president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan personally begged Buhari to settle the libel suit he won against them out of court. SEE: Jonathan Presidency Begged Buhari To Settle Abati “Ungovernable” Slander Libel Suit Out of Court

There have also been serious Boko Haram activities including bombings and an attempt on General Buhari’s life which the ruling party has been accused of directly having a hand in.

MULTIPLE ABUBAKAR SHEKAUS

Investigations have revealed that the first real person bearing that title has been killed in August of 2013; another double who adopted the role was killed last year. The current double who has been working parallel to the “Shekau” killed at Konduga last year is a close ally of Chad’s president, Idriss Deby, remembered for duping Nigeria with a scam ceasefire. According to intelligence information, the ceasefire was actually brokered between Deby and Shekau, but Shekau could not convince the other majore Ansaru terror leaders also on US terror watch list and who were actually in possession of the abducted Chibok goirls, to agree to the scrumptious deal and payment.

Since the election 6-week war began Boko Haram terrorists have been telling us that their “contract” is over and they are returning to their home countries. Who signed this contract is yet to be established, however after Stephen Davis implicated the Nigerian government through its chief of army, General Azubuike Ihejirika and Borno senator, Ali Modu sheriff in Boko Haram, the tides turned and the sect failed in its chief use for slandering the opposition.

It was barely 10 days after the expose by Davis that the “ceasefire” meeting was held in Ndjamena with implicated senator Modu Sheriff, Nigeria’s president and his Chadian counterpart in attendance.

SHEKAU CHANGES FROM BOKO HARAM TO ELECTION HARAM

A recent “Shekau” video had him sitting unusually in front of a blue background in a studio. Our sources tell us that that video in which he furthered a common agenda the ruling party has, which is to disrupt the elections that do not currently favor the ruling party, was said according to our sources, to have been made in the custody of the Nigerian government with their Chadian partners.

In the new video, Shekau promised that they will rather die than see Nigeria through the March 28th presidential elections. Obeservers quickly noticed and commented that suddenly Shekau changed from Boko Haram to Elections Haram. We have in the past few days reported that the Nigerian army has also according to eye witnesses, been aggressively distributing flyers on behalf of Boko Haram claiming the group members or a faction of them were repentant, this move is designed to gain favor among the indigens of Nigeria and to allow the terrorists re-assimilate in local communities during the temporary period of deactivation.

From Nasir El-Rufai's Facebook:

APC Campaign alerts on plot by FG to create fake Shekau - Abuja, Nigeria, 23 Feb 2015

The APC Presidential Campaign Organization (APCPCO) has raised the alarm about reports of a fake Shekau being presented before Nigerians by the government in order to claim glory or winning the war on terrorism.

Beyond this, credible sources have alerted the APC that the fake Shekau might become a tool to blackmail members of the opposition by coaching the phantom terror chief to say he was working for the opposition party candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari in order to link its presidential candidate to terrorism as it had attempted but failed in the past.

A statement issued by the Director of Media and Publicity of the APCOPC signed by Malam Garba Shehu wondered where the ‘new Shekau’ will come from after government at several times in the past, announced that they had killed the insurgent leader.

"The charge to the military, that they should catch Shekau alive by the President in the last 24 hours lends credence to the report that indeed a fake Shekau is about being created."

The statement went on to assert that the profile of the leader of the insurgents, Shekau, of a dedicated ideologue presupposes that the man is not likely to allow himself to be caught alive. "It is both contradictory to the ideology he preaches and the psychological profile that the world has of him that Shekau would allow himself to be caught alive," the statement asserted.

The APCPCO recalled that the attack back in Kaduna on the party’s presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari was seen and believed by most Nigerians that it was perpetrated by the Boko Haram. “The police that is constitutionally empowered to investigate and report on such incidents has not contradicted the widespread belief that this was a Boko Haram attack."The view of the APC is that it does not make sense for General Muhammadu Buhari to be in league with, or be associated in any way with people who have set out to kill him."

In the view of this, the APCPCO said the government needs to listen to the various counsel from international bodies and lately by our religious leaders that campaign must be about issues and not maligning people. “Unfounded allegations linking the opposition to insurgency amounts to leaving the issues to pursue personal attacks as warned against, barely 24 hours ago by leaders of the Catholic Community in the country, through Arch. Bishop John Onaiyekan.

The APC presidential campaign said it was no less shocked, as other Nigerians by the President’s admission in a weekend newspaper interview that he has under-estimated the Boko Haram challenge, arguing that any leader in that circumstance should not consider himself fit to seek re-election.

Quoting President Jonathan’s recent confession that he under-estimated Boko Haram, the APC presidential campaign said the admission was a direct evidence that the PDP President has nothing to offer and must bow to the wind of change.

According to the statement, President Jonathan is out of touch with the realities of the lethal challenges posed by global terrorism, including Boko Haram, which is affiliated to Al-Qaeda global terror network.

Malam Garba Shehu explained that for any President to under-estimate terrorism, it means that he doesn’t take any national challenges seriously, including health, poverty, unemployment, power, education, infrastructure and other issues.

The APC presidential campaign added that with his admission, President Jonathan has passed a vote of no confidence on himself and his government.

The statement added, however, that APC presidential campaign was not surprised by the self-confessed failure by the PDP President, explaining that his confession underlines the imperative for change.

Shehu said that with a President admitting his incompetence of a mortal challenge to the security of Nigerians, he has no business seeking re-election or looking for excuses to delay the polls.

Boko Haram Members Saying Their “Contract” Is Over
Tue, Feb 24th, 2015

For over three weeks, since the Nigerian government announced that it will soon (in 6 weeks) defeat Boko Haram, we have gotten reports and spoken to Boko Haram terrorists who have simply said, “we have returned to our country as our contract is over.”

NewsRescue has struggled to investigate what “contract” this is and who signed it and also why the contract was over at the same and very time Nigeria signed an MoU with Chad, paying Chad billions to battle Boko Haram on Nigeria’s behalf, but we are unable to unravel this.

However we have gotten several clear statements in which the terrorists clearly state that their contract is done.

President of Chad, Idriss Deby a close ally of Nigeria’s president, Goodluck Jonathan, according to Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, is linked to “Abubakar Shekau.” Many have pointed to Deby as being a sponsor of the Shekau Boko Haram arm which has been decommissioned with Shekau, according to reports we have, being picked up by the Chadians and handed over to Nigeria’s government.

The war being fought according to our security experts is with other terror groups who refused to put their weapons down when the contract expired. These groups which we might recollect had the other names US declared wanted along with the Shekau handle we are more familiar with, include Jamaa’atu Ahlis-Sunnah (‘Alal-Haqq) of Sheikh Bukar, Ansorul-Muslimiina Fii Bilaadis-Sudaan (Helpers Of The Muslims In The Lands Of The Sudaan) led by Abu Usamah and Al-Ansori and Harakatul-Muhajiriina Wal-Mujahidiin (Movement Of The Emigrants And Those Who Strive), led by Khalid Al-Barnawi who has been appearing in recent propaganda videos on the group’s twitter channels.

It has been said that the Jonathan government in partner with their Chadian counterparts chartered the Shekau faction to foment chaos in the north of Nigeria which was used for the past five years as a political weapon till it backfired after the Stephen Davis exposure. This will explain why the two governments were confident of the ceasefire and why they are now sure of winning the war on a short time frame; this because the main Boko Haram faction has been deactivated and only mop ups of other disgruntled groups is needed.

Most foreign terrorists according to our reports and those who spoke to us are simply returning to Chad and Niger as their “contract” expired and not actually fighting to finish on the battle field.

Nigeria’s army has been distributing flyers on behalf of Boko Haram as we have reported which are meant to convince the populace that the terrorists have repented so the gullible populace will admit these deactivated killers back into their communities, as the Nigerian recruited terrorists have been complaining that they have no where to retire to.

Shekau in his recent video in which he pushed against the elections which do not favor the ruling party, was seen in a studio which our sources say is a stage-managed government facility.

(20/2/2015) We have reported on how Nigerian air force jets have recently been spotted dropping Boko Haram propaganda material over the skies of northeastern states. Flyers which claimed a Boko Haram faction was sorry and had been misled by corrupt leaders were dropped in Gombi, Adamawa state the past two days.

New reports include an eyewitness who saw a Nigerian air force helicopter bearing NAF 257 flying at a very low altitude with soldiers in it seen laughing. “The door opened and he dropped the flyers; which were in English, Hausa and Arabic. It says d boko harams regret their actions n promised to stop it. It happened in Song local government of Adamawa state.”

The Nigerian air force is yet to comment on why they are distributing Boko Haram propaganda material on behalf of the terrorists. NewsRescue continues to try to get their reaction.

Boko Haram Faction Begs, ‘Repents’ In New Air-dropped Message [FULL TRANSLATION]
Fri, Feb 20th, 2015

We have obtained the full translation of a fancy printed, air force jet dropped message in Gombi, Adamawa yesterday, purported to be from Boko Haram.

The messages were printed in full color, double-sided, folded in the middle, landscape style on A4 size flyers. The suspicious flyer had an image of sect leader ‘Shekau’ and the Abuja central mosque on the cover.

In the message that commentators refer to as a “Greek gift,’ the terrorists claimed to apologize for having been ‘used,’ and claimed that they now realized their leaders were misguided and simply ‘corrupt.’

The terrorists confessed to simply be loot plunderers, saying that the billions worth of goods and property they plundered from Nigeria were sold in Niger, Cameroon and Chad to feed the pockets of their corrupt and greedy leaders. Over 90 trucks of goods and money were carted away from Mubi, Adamawa state in one of the largest heists in recent times.

Perhaps what was most ridiculous about the flyer written in non Nigerian Hausa script, probably Chadian or Nigerian, was that Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau was printed on the front. This questioned the purpose and factuality of the flyer. Is ‘Abubakar Shekau’ not one of the so-stated corrupt leaders or if he identifies with this new message, is Abubakar Shekau claiming to not be the group leader, but have been used by some other higher-up leaders? of course the later is not the case as Shekau just released a latest unrepentant video; so why will so-claiming repentant Boko Haram terrorists use his image on their well printed pamphlet? And why did likely Nigerian military air force jets distribute this Boko Haram propaganda as we reported yesterday?

Below is the translation:

BOKO HARAM PROPAGANDA DROPPED IN GOMBI ON THURSDAY 19/02/2015;

Translated by Idris Ahmed of CUPS

We started this struggle together, and united in Boko Haram. We slept together, we ate together, and drank together. At the beginning of our struggle, we prayed together and read the Holy Quran together. Today it has been five years since we started this struggle in Allah’s name. We have now figured out that we have been used to perpetrate corruption and selfish ends. We woke up and realised that our leaders are living in luxury, while the rest of us are living in abject poverty in the name of Jihad.

Quran Chapter 8:61 reminds us that Islam is a religion of peace. The Holy Quran explains clearly the terms and conditions of a genuine holy war in Chapter 2:190. Similar, the Holy Quran forbade us unlawful killing the innocent in Chapter 6:151, because life is sacred in the eyes of God.

Even though we started with dignity, by preaching the tenets of Islam, today we are in a situation whereby we have burnt all villages, and spilled the blood of those who have caused us no harm, especially Christians, without reason or justification whatsoever. Similarly, we have expelled masses from their homes and villages. All the while we are killing our fellow Muslims, despite the fact that the Holy Quran forbade this in Chapter 4:29-30. This is Allah’s prohibition. All the material wealth that we pillaged from villages, towns, cities, and states, which are meant to be used for this struggle, have been carted away by our leaders to street markets in Ndjamena Chad, Bosso in Niger Republic, and Fotokol in Cameroun. The proceeds from selling these stolen goods go straight into the accounts of our so called leaders, who are up to nothing but wanton destruction of our country.

Brethren! There is no hiding place when the chips are down. The horizon is clear and our eyes are wide open. The time has come for us to comprehend over the destruction of our country, and the wanton destruction of human life and property under the false pretext of Jihad. Look round and see how they made us to destroy our towns and cities of commerce and technology like Gamboru, Marte, Mallam Fatori, Damasak, Baga, Maiduguri, Monguno, and Gaidam, which accorded us hospitality when we started this struggle. Remember, it was in Gaidam that our leader, late Muhammad Yusuf, gave the call to Jihad in 2009. In our capacity as citizens of Northern Borno, from today we have ceased to give our support and material assistance to this insanity that these marauding thieves are engaged in, in the name of Jihad. And by God’s name, all of us Kanuri’s that are in Boko Haram must stand firm and fight these rascals and hooligans who are killing innocent people in the name of religion. Enough of using us in the name of religion.

Signed

Alagarno.
Damasak.
Gamboru.

Nigeria’s Boko Haram as a Peasants’ Revolt

by John Campbell
February 27, 2015

Over the past two weeks, Nigerian military forces have driven Boko Haram out of several towns in northeast Nigeria. There have also been reports of Cameroonian, Nigerien, and Chadian successes against Boko Haram. President Goodluck Jonathan made a rare visit to the northeast, and he even stopped in Baga, the site of a notorious Boko Haram massacre. All of this seems to support Jonathan’s recent statement that even if Boko Haram is not defeated by the scheduled national elections on March 28, its scope will have been much reduced and it will be possible for elections to take place.

Yet, at the same time, there has been an accelerating campaign of suicide bombings, including attacks on the towns of Jos and Biu. In the same week, the “face” of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, released a new video heaping contempt on the Nigerian, Cameroonian, Nigerien, and Chadian governments. He did not claim responsibility for any of the recent bombings. (In the past, he has been scrupulous about only claiming responsibility for actions that his organization carried out.) Meanwhile, the Nigerian authorities seem particularly focused on Shekau the man, calling for him to be captured alive so that they can confirm his identity.

The Nigerian government’s approach to Boko Haram continues to be a conventional military strategy: retake towns, even if they are little more than smoking ruins, such as Baga, and focus on Shekau, whom they seem to identify as the supreme leader of Boko Haram.

However, the recent suicide attacks, over which Shekau did not claim repsonsibility, would suggest that the bombers may not have been under his command. This could imply that there are Boko Haram operatives beyond Shekau’s control. If so, rather than a tightly led terrorist organization such as ISIS or al-Qaeda, Boko Haram may resemble more of a peasants’ revolt with little centralized leadership. If this is the case, then the current government strategy may be ineffective.

There are certainly similarities between Boko Haram and ISIS, not least because of their common Salafist, Islamic roots and rhetoric. But, it may be helpful to also look at Boko Haram’s similarities with other grass-roots, predominantly rural movements. Peasants’ revolts are generally characterized by extraordinary violence and often victim choice is incoherent. The Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA)and the Khmer Rouge (KR) come to mind. Though the LRA and KR had an identified leadership, peasants’ revolts often do not have supreme leaders but rather fall back on a more collective authority. Should this be true of Boko Haram, Shekau the man may not be very important and the re-conquest of territory by the Nigerian military may not have much long term significance.
