This is so crazy. Dailystormer, all the alt right sites, etc have gone full on anime nerd video game 4chan meme. Its like an AI skynet computer going meta self aware bizarro tumblr.
All the neo nazi sites are using anime Japanese graphics, video game graphics, etc. I cannot make heads or tails. Here's the big gif on the front of dailystormer. Clearly they
are trying to appeal to young gamers and anime kids. Please wake me up when this nightmare is over

It's just memes and copycat behaviour, in a few months it will be something else.

Really though, I don't see why you're throwing alt-right stuff directly in with The Daily Stormer (etc), it's a pretty crude conflation. Even AD, who's arm-waving would make a Sea Anemone blush, sees fit to draw an initial distinction (I say 'initial' because it usually all gets muddled eventually)

From over the page:

Patton and Wombat reckon some of that chan stuff is a form of sigil magic.

i dunno the details myself cos I have spent FA time here or anywhere interesting online recently. I did notice them talking about it on another thread tho. Makes sense too. Build sigils into images young angry teens are likely to fap over and you have a large pool of magical energy to power the sigil. I'm thinking about doing one to assist my footy team with a successful season.

The self-awareness is, despite the predilection for otakumemes, much more ancient. What you're witnessing there is the waking world living through Stephenson's Snow Crash, only instead of Sumerian intrigues, 4-Chan has birthed Egyptian god of androgynous darkness, Kuk. It's not a very compelling movie pitch, but it's what happened.

On the plus side, you can console yourself with the apocryphal mythology that Kuk's reign is just the darkness before an age of light.

Just bear in mind, that light is probably radiating backwards through time from the transcendent glory of the first, last and only term of President Donald Trump.

Augustus Invictus Meet & Greet Report Back

Image
Invictus giving a speech in Jacksonville, FL in front of a Rock Against Communism flag

On the evening of March 1st, 2016, Augustus Sol Invictus made a disastrous attempt to quietly pass through Portland on his campaign trail, hoping to “meet and greet” fellow neo-fascists in our city.

About Invictus

Augustus Invictus is a self-proclaimed “American Fascist.” He is a lawyer and senatorial candidate from Florida, running as a Libertarian despite the Florida party chairman quitting in protest of Invictus’ candidacy. Invictus’ campaign logo incorporates the fasces, which was used as the symbol of Italian Fascism.

As a lawyer, Invictus represented white supremacist Marcus Faella of the American Front, working on Faella’s appeal for his conviction on two counts of teaching and conducting paramilitary training with the intention of starting a race war. While defense lawyers typically have all sorts of clients, Invictus writes about the white supremacist Faella as being “my friend” on the Invictus for Senate website. In fact, on February 27th of this year Invictus spoke at an American Front gathering in Washington state.

Invictus claims to no longer be an advocate for the racist “science” of eugenics, stating that he no longer believes in a pro-eugenics paper he published while in law school and has changed his mind. However the Invictus for Senate website still lists the following as a major “failing” of the federal government:

“It has abandoned its eugenics programs & elitist mindset in favor of a decadent ideology that rejects the beauty of strength and demands the exponential growth of the weakest, the least intelligent, and the most diseased.”

Invictus’ writings are frequently xenophobic and contain far-Right themes. Take for example the following from Invictus’ “A Letter to the People of Europe” from earlier this year:

“All of Europe is in existential danger. A disease has slowly but surely been spreading throughout our ancestral lands for the past several generations, and we are now seeing the boils come to the surface: mass immigration of Arabs and Africans; the criminality of criticizing the Zionists or of questioning the official account of the Holocaust; entire cities of parasites defying assimilation into their host countries; [...] your shores and streets flooded with the unwashed rabble of the foreign lands your ancestors once conquered.”

Invictus frequently appears on far-Right and fascist websites to spread his message, for example, being interviewed on the racist and antisemitic “Red Ice Radio” show. (Invictus denies accusations of racism, citing his four Hispanic children as proof that he cannot possibly be racist.) Invictus sees himself as part of the broader “alternative right,” writing: “I would say that the alternative right or the Nouvelle Droit [sic, Droite] or whatever you want to call it is certainly making headway in America, and I think it's about time.”

Augustus Invictus in Portland

While visiting Portland, Invictus spent time with another figure of the “alternative right,” Jack Donovan. Donovan is a gay man who argues for male “tribalism” but against a homosexual movement he believes to be leftist and effeminate. Donovon moves in fascist and “alt. right” circles, for example, being a speaker at the October 2015 National Policy Institute white nationalist conference in Washington DC. According to Facebook, the two not only met and discussed, but Donovan “tattooed the [fasces-incorporating] campaign logo on [Invictus’] back.”

Goat-Blood Drinking Senate Candidate Barred Entry Into Canada

Last Saturday we wrote about Augustus Invictus, a Libertarian candidate for the senate seat being vacated by Marco Rubio who was scheduled to speak in Vancouver yesterday. Owing to his support of eugenics, racism, and desire to precipitate a second Civil War, the location where he had been scheduled to speak decided that they really didn't want their business associated with the man and his ideology. Still determined to speak Augie said he would speak on the sidewalk outside the original venue because that will definitely show them!

The New Man of 4chan

ANGELA NAGLE

Image

“The first of our kind has struck fear into the hearts of America,” announced one commenter last year on the giddily offensive /r9k/ board of the notorious, anarchic site 4chan. “This is only the beginning. The Beta Rebellion has begun. Soon, more of our brothers will take up arms to become martyrs to this revolution.” The post, dated October 1, was referring to the news that twenty-six-year-old Chris Harper-Mercer had killed nine classmates and injured nine others before shooting himself at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon.

The night before the shooting, an earlier post on /r9k/ had, in veiled but ominous terms, warned fellow commenters from the Northwestern United States that it would be a good idea to steer clear of school that day. The implication was not lost on the /r9k/ community. The first responder in the thread asked, “Is the beta uprising finally going down?” while others encouraged the anonymous poster and gave him tips on how to conduct a mass shooting. The apparent link between the post and the killer remains under FBI investigation, but in the immediate wake of Harper-Mercer’s rampage, a number of the board’s users hailed it as a victory for the beta rebellion.

The details that emerged about Harper-Mercer’s online life made it difficult not to resort to stereotyping. On a dating site, he had listed pop-culture obsessions typical of “beta” shut-ins, including “internet, killing zombies, movies, music, reading,” and added that he lived “with parents.” His profile specified that he was looking for a companion with a shared set of personality traits: “introvert, loner, lover, geek, nerd.” The term “beta,” in the circles Harper-Mercer frequented, is an ironic inversion of the fabled swagger of the alpha male. Whereas alphas tend to be macho, sporty, and mainstream in their tastes, betas see themselves as less dominant males, withdrawn, obsessional, and curatorial in their cultural habits.

Withdrawn does not necessarily imply peaceable, however, which is where the “uprising” and “rebellion” parts of the beta identity come in. This particular brand of computer-enabled detachment easily seeps into a mindset of entitled violence and is accompanied by a mixture of influences from the far right to the countercultural left. The email on Harper-Mercer’s dating profile was ironcross45@gmail.com, but he was also a member of a group named “Doesn’t Like Organized Religion,” and blogged that “The material world is a lie . . . Most people will spend hours standing in front of stores just to buy a new iphone.” Harper-Mercer left behind a manifesto in which he described his feelings of social and sexual rejection and showed he had studied mass killers. It was reminiscent of the video—circulated widely among exponents of the beta rebellion—recorded by “virgin killer” Elliot Rodger, who murdered six victims and injured fourteen more in Isla Vista, California, explaining how his own shooting spree was rooted in sexual frustration.

Going Beta
On men’s rights sites and in some geeky subcultures, “beta male” is a common term of identification, one of both belonging and self-mockery. It has become a popular meme on 4chan’s recreationally obnoxious /b/ board, a precursor to /r9k/ that produced hacker collectives such as Anonymous while also incubating scores of anti-feminist online attacks in recent years. Know Your Meme records the earliest use of the term “beta uprising” in 2011, on the men’s rights movement blog Fight for Justice. From around 2013, the beta-male uprising was a regular topic among 4chan users; it encompassed elaborate fantasies of revenge against attractive women, macho jocks, and other “normies” with majority tastes and attitudes.

How is this any different from SITE telling us about Islamic terrorists?

We are supposed to swallow these pills without tasting, eh?

By the way I heard Islam is really good at dealing with betas.

Anyone have an archived link of an /r9k analysis of The Baffler article?

One of the only places still engaged in deep embedded investigative journalism is like the intelligence- and government-paid propaganda outfit? I'm not the biggest fan of The Baffler and am pretty critical in my day-to-day, but that can't be what you mean.

It wasn't what I meant.

Who is to say the /r9k posts aren't as ultimately unattributable as Al Qaeda or IS PR?

Okay reading the article now. I see lots of mentions of Laurie Penny and Milo Yiannopoulos. Surely momentously important journalists who have nothing whatsoever in common with the people who trained us how to think about terrorism in the 2000's.

ALTERNATIVE RIGHT, KU KLUX KLAN, NEO-CONFEDERATE, NEO-NAZI

STORMFRONT SMOKY MOUNTAIN SUMMIT 2015 BROUGHT MILITANT WHITE NATIONALISM TO TENNESSEE
NOVEMBER 9, 2015

The conference that was held on November 2nd, just like Stormfront, attempts to have a softer image and looks more towards organizing rather than the angry racialism and slurs that has traditionally painted these gatherings. This year, David Duke kicked off the event with an hour speech where he alternated between fears of immigration and his favorite topic: the Jewish “Supremacists” that he thinks are controlling world affairs. Dr. Patrick Slattery also added the image of respectability to the event, though he is best known for writing at places like the Occidental Observer about Southern issues and general anti-Semitism.

While Don Black said on his re-cap podcast that NPI and the Stormfront are very different conferences, two NPI speakers engaged with the conference. Sam Dickson, who spoke at NPI about the “coming ethnostate,” did an audio address to Stormfront about lessons that they can learn from the fight over the Confederate Flag. He mentioned that it was important to “look before you leap,” and that you need to do your homework and properly prepare before “going into battle.” The flag controversy was a huge topic amongst the crowd, which was a testament to its Southern character

Kevin McDonald also intended to be there, but ended up choosing the NPI conference as well where he gave a speech on the “origins of the white man.” A man called “Roy” gave a workshop on using humor as a “weapon,” where they broke people into small groups to make memes. Notorious Canadia racist Paul Fromm had to Skype his talk in because the U.S. would not grant him a visa, which is not uncommon for Fromm.

This is a pretty unclear article, and in a field where clarity is much needed (another 'fail' for antifascistnews). It seems to play the NPI and Stormfront(ish) conferences off against each other, simultaneously hinting at how they are both similar and different, but without going into essential details. The main theme seems to be about shouting 'Stormfront' throughout and thereby signalling that there are bad folks involved and readers don't need to know much more than that.

A sort of 'unnamedropping' too. It seems that Kevin McDonald (boo hiss) didn't attend even though he intended to, and went to the other one instead, no details are given about what he did say at the one he did attend though. More things people don't need to know it seems.
