The Miseducation of America on 5G: The New York Times Gets It Spectacularly Wrong

When William J. Broad, a Pulitzer-Prize winning New York Times science writer, strangely mangles information on the dangers of 5G, this plays right into the hands of those determined to advance this never-tested technology without serious examination of its long-term impact on human health and the environment.

The recent headline of the NYTimes trumpeted 5G as the “health hazard that isn’t.” Not so fast. A close examination of claims in that article indicates that it is time for a reset on the march to the latest wireless technology as the consequences could not be more monumental.


Ten Corrections to William J. Broad’s
“The 5G Health Hazard That Isn’t” New York Times July 16, 2019

First of all, contrary to Broad’s claim, Dr. Curry’s report and graph on wireless radiation risks to children in schools in 2000 were not the central foundation for scientific concerns regarding wireless radiation.

Long before 2000, scientists had investigated and confirmed numerous biological health impacts of electromagnetic (EMF) radiation.
For over two decades, the US EPA had a robust research program on electromagnetic fields (EMF) that was expressly defunded by Congress in 1995, shortly after the EPA briefed the FCC about plans for developing EMF safety standards.
As a result, no federal agency has responsibility for setting standards for public safety from exposures to EMF that include radiofrequency radiation (RF), also known as microwave or wireless radiation.

2. In fact, in contradiction to Broad’s assertion, Curry’s graph showing greater absorption with higher frequency of wireless radiation up to 3G was correct and directly applicable to schools.

Broad alleges that Curry’s graph was “wrong” because higher and faster 5G millimeter waves don’t penetrate the skin. In fact, Curry’s chart had nothing to do with the frequencies of 5G, but solely with the lower and slower wireless frequencies in use at that time about which there is no debate that Wi-Fi penetrates the body and brain as does Wi-Max.
Wireless radiation frequencies get faster and higher, the depth of penetration goes down but the rate of absorption goes up.

3. The NYTimes graph on 5G frequencies is wrong, because it incorrectly indicates that 5G devices will start at 3000 MHz (3 GHz), when in fact companies have stated that 5G will use the same frequencies as current cell phones — as low as 600MHz, in addition to higher frequencies.

The Wireless industry is clear that for 5G phones, routers, and systems to work, they must use a full range of frequencies, from low to middle to high, as well as higher millimeter-wave frequencies never used in mass-scale before (from 600 MHz up to around 50,000 MHz and higher into Terahertz for 6G). T-Mobile, for example, will use 600 MHz while AT&T is using 39 GHz in it’s 5G test cities.
New 5G phones will have multiple antennas emitting multiple frequencies and modulations all at the same time. Think Bluetooth,Wi-Fi, Mobile hotspot and LTE on top of the multiple 5G antennas in just one phone.
As the American Academy of Pediatrics has noted in their letters to Congress, lower frequencies are absorbed deeply into brains and bodies, especially in children, because the skull of the young child is thinner than that of the adult, the neurons of their developing brains not fully myelinated, and their brains contain more fluid. As a consequence, the children will absorb proportionally more wireless radiation per exposure into the brain than adults, a point that Curry also makes in his reports.
Broad’s misrepresentation of 5G as not including these lower frequencies is the foundation for his erroneous conclusion that the skin is “a barrier” to 5G. We wrote Broad, but he refused to correct.
By email, Marvin Ziskin clarified that his statement quoted by Broad that “5G emissions, if anything, should be safer” applied solely to the higher frequencies to be used in 5G as they did not penetrate into the body as deeply. Apparently, his statement did not apply to the slower and lower frequencies that are well known to be absorbed past the skin.

4. Broad errs in reporting the assertion of radiation physicists that radio waves become “safer” at higher frequencies because human skin purportedly “acts as a barrier.” The skin does not just act as a mirror deflecting the radiation.

5G’s faster mmWave frequencies between 30 and 300 GHz are absorbed into and just below the surface of the skin, and such exposure is biologically impactful. That is why the U.S. Defense Department developed weapons with high-powered millimeter waves as seen here. The Active Denial System (ADS), also known as the Pain-Ray, was deployed to Afghanistan, tested in prisons and considered as a pirate deterrent in Somalia.
The military grounds for concluding that the Pain-Ray does not cause cancer after long-term exposure rests on a single three-month-long animal study involving two exposures per week. Further, the expert review alleges that blinking would spare eyes from harm. “The eyes would have to be held open to achieve damage“ and in a 2009 review ”Researchers learned that the human eye reflexively blinks within a quarter of a second of detecting millimeter waves, quickly protecting the eyes.” So do we stream movies superfast with our eyes closed? What about children’s developing eyes glued to 5G Virtual Reality streaming into classrooms?

Wireless 5G networks will use beams of radiation like the Pain-Ray, and include Massive MIMO (multiplex in and multiplex out) and phased arrays meaning each installation could consist of numerous antennas simultaneously sending and receiving beaming waves into neighborhoods.
A 2019 European Parliament Report notes, “The 5G radio emission fields are quite different to those of previous generations because of their complex beamformed transmissions in both directions — from base station to handset and for the return. Although fields are highly focused by beams, they vary rapidly with time and movement and so are unpredictable.” Because of this, that report concludes, “It is not possible to accurately simulate or measure 5G emissions in the real world.”
As our largest organ (~20 square feet), the skin is not a “barrier” but a filter that interacts with chemicals and EMF, that can produce systemic effects on the immune system and specific organs. Poison Ivy and peanuts need only touch the surface of the skin to set off an occasionally fatal reaction. A number of medicines are delivered through skin patches absorbed throughout the body. Babies born with jaundice are treated with intense light that penetrates through the skin to their blood that becomes transformed in their livers.
As with all drugs in medicine or chemicals in the environment, biological impact depends on who gets exposed to how much under what specific conditions. For instance, a fair-skinned baby and her darker-skinned mother can have the same exposure to the sun with profoundly different results.

5. Contrary to what the NYTimes article asserts, studies find that as RF frequency increases past 10 GHz, the intensity of the rate of absorption does increase, despite the shallow penetration.

Researchers investigating the impact to the skin from 5G’s higher millimeter frequencies are “raising the warning flag” on the safety of 5G after finding that human sweat ducts absorb these frequencies at much higher rates than in surrounding skin structures — acting as tiny helical EMF antennas to magnify these signals.
The video below shows one of those researchers, Paul Ben-Ishai, PhD, lecturer in the Department of Physics, Ariel University, Israel explaining how 5G millimeter waves interact with the skin. Ben-Ishai also wrote a letter to California Governor Brown on 5G.

Swiss government and private sector researchers caution that 5G frequencies can cause big increases in temperature that “may lead to permanent tissue damage after even short exposures.”

For insects, a new simulation study finds that their bodies can absorb up to three times more power from 5G that could lead to major changes in how they behave and function, affecting the capacity of bees and other insects to pollinate crops.
Published reviews on 5G, millimeter waves and wireless (even from decades ago) have cataloged a host of harmful impacts including increased temperature, altered gene expression, faster cell growth, inflammatory and metabolic processes, damage to the eyes and cellular stress, memory problems, sperm damage, genetic damage, behavior issues and brain damage.

6. Contrary to the NYTimes statement, “mainstream scientists continue to see no evidence of harm from cellphone radio waves,” more than 244 experts in the field of bioelectromagnetics have asked the United Nations to call for a moratorium on 5G.

They note that while exposures have risen many fold, so have studies showing damage to human health and the environment.
Astonishingly, Broad omitted any mention of the fact that an independent panel in 2011 advised the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (WHO/IARC) that cellphone and other wireless RF radiation should be classified as a “possible human carcinogen,” based on evidence from studies carried out up to that date.
Nor does Broad report more recent analyses from scientists who have been senior advisors to the WHO and the NIH on bioelectromagnetics concluding that the FDA is downplaying clear evidence of cancer in the National Toxicology Program study, later corroborated by the Ramazzini Study, or that a growing number of scientists say RF is a “human carcinogen.”
In light of this mounting research, the WHO/IARC advisory group released 2019 “high priority” recommendations to reevaluate the cancer hazard from wireless radiation.

7. Broad neglected to mention industry connections of several of his sources.

Several of the experts quoted in this article have in fact published research directly funded by the wireless industry or by NYU Wireless, “an R&D arm” of NYU’s industry affiliates, which include AT&T, Sprint and Crown Castle — the very companies spearheading the rollout of 5G.
The word “safe” means different things depending who you talk to. Industry reports define ‘safe” as compliance with outdated FCC government limits despite the fact that these limits are based on thirty year old science. “Safe” is also conflated with “less penetration” into the body- another erroneous assumption based on no scientific research. When independent scientists state electromagnetic fields are not “safe” because biological effects are replicated and proven (a fact), the industry connected scientist response is often that these biological effects “are not the same as health effects.” This is no better exemplified in this presentation where “consistent evidence” of physiological changes during sleep are found, yet “these effects do not translate into any measure we can use to describe disturbances.” When brain tumors, tumor promotion, genetic damage, memory problems, oxidative stress,brain wave changes, behavior issues in children, miscarriage, sperm damage, efflux of calcium ions and blood brain barrier permeability studies are replicated, the response is that it is “unclear,” “difficult to draw conclusions,” “the functional significance cannot be determined” and “more studies need to be done.” When asked why authorities do not issue clear protections for children, they say the exposure is “low” and “society as a whole should decide“ and it’s difficult to prove safety.”
Unfortunately, the field of EMF research has been plagued with industry loyal experts, that have influenced federal agencies and research sponsorship bias, where works underwritten by industry tend to find no effect, while those few that are independently funded do report impacts.
When Broad was questioned as to why he omitted industry affiliations in his March 2019 article claiming Russia was fomenting 5G health concerns, Broad responded in an email to EHT Executive Director Scarato that “We do point out industry financial support when it seems appropriate. It’s a judgment call.”

8. Broad cites the lack of a marked uptick in brain cancer rates as proof of RF safety. This misunderstands the long latencies for brain cancer and also fails to consider that several other cancers plausibly tied with cellphone use are increasing in young adults.

Cancers do not occur immediately after exposure to a causative agent and usually take years to several decades to be diagnosed. Widespread rises are not expected to be evident in today’s statistics.
New analysis by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and others show that non-Hodgkin lymphomas, central nervous system tumors (CNST) (including brain cancers), renal, hepatic and thyroid tumors have increased recently among Americans under 20 years old.
Perhaps more importantly, cancer is not the sole indicator of a problem. The Cleveland Clinic advises men who wish to father healthy children to remove phones from their pockets, because there is growing evidence that exposures can damage sperm. Sterility and infertility continue to rise in many countries. While factors accounting for this are complex, exposures to wireless radiation are relevant.

9. Broad’s article fails to report on a number of major policy efforts to restrict 5G due to concerns about the lack of safety data, including the following developments:

The European Environmental Authority ranked the impact of 5G as “high” due to “the possibility of unintended biological consequences.”
Swiss Re and Lloyd’s have compared 5G and wireless to asbestos as “high” risk and most companies will not underwrite coverage for health damages.
The State of New Hampshire passed HB522 establishing a commission on the health and environmental effects of 5G. One of the tasks of the Commission is to answer the question,” Why have more than 220 of the worlds leading scientists signed an appeal to the WHO and the United Nations to protect public health from wireless radiation and nothing has been done?”
The State of Louisiana passed HR 145 requesting authorities to study the environmental and health effects of 5G.
Over a dozen municipalities in Italy have issued resolutions for precaution on 5G, as have several other localities in the world.
Several US members of Congress have written the FCC asking for proof of safety of 5G and result was “unsatisfactary.” Read the letters and responses here.
The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, over industry objections, upheld the City of Berkeley’s cell phone right to know ordinance requiring retailers to inform consumers that cellphones emit radiation and that “if you carry or use your phone in a pants or shirt pocket or tucked into a bra when the phone is ON and connected to a wireless network, you may exceed the federal guidelines for exposure to RF radiation.”
A published analysis of cell phone radiation tests completed by the government of France shows when phones are touching the skin, they can exceed US FCC radiation limits up to 11 times, depending on the model.
Oregon passed SB 283, a Bill that directs the Health Authority to review independently-funded scientific studies of the health effects of wireless, especially for school exposures.

Cyprus just launched a major public educational campaign to reduce children’s wireless exposures (as have several countries) and has removed wireless from the pediatric intensive care units of Archbıshop Makarıos III Hospital.
The first major US medical conference for doctors on the health effects of electromagnetic radiation will be held this September in California.

10. Broad refuses to correct the inaccuracies of his articles and the Times persists in demeaning critics and concerned citizens.

Despite ample documentation of the need for corrections, the NYT refuses to correct their misleading and deceptive articles about 5G and cellphone radiation.

Broad’s 5G articles have been picked up by medical platforms and media nationwide, and are invoked as proof of safety by the former FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler who is also former Head of the CTIA-The Wireless Association. A 2015 Harvard Report documents how the heavy Congressional lobbying of the multibillion-dollar wireless industry coupled with the revolving door between industry and government has resulted in undue industry influence into the science and policy of wireless radiation.

The NYT article included a belittling graphic showing people fleeing in fear from a cell tower, mocking those who are working for safe neighborhoods and schools and the many nations that reduce children’s exposure and do not permit towers near schools and hospitals, but did not reference a major investigative journalism analysis indicating serious grounds for concern.

Broad tweeted the story with “He was a very bright guy.”

As Senator Patrick Moynihan stated, “Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts.” We call upon the New York Times to correct the misinformation.

Frightening Frequencies: The Dangers of 5G

As the old saying goes, give us an inch and inevitably we’ll want a mile. And certainly, this sentiment is true with technology.

Who doesn’t want faster, bigger (or smaller), more efficient? Take wireless mobile telecommunications. Our current broadband cellular network platform, 4G (or fourth generation), allows us to transmit data faster than 3G and everything that preceded. We can access information faster now than ever before in history. What more could we want? Oh, yes, transmission speeds powerful enough to accommodate the (rather horrifying) so-called Internet of Things. Which brings us to 5G.

Until now, mobile broadband networks have been designed to meet the needs of people. But 5G has been created with machines’ needs in mind, offering low-latency, high-efficiency data transfer. It achieves this by breaking data down into smaller packages, allowing for faster transmission times. Whereas 4G has a fifty-millisecond delay, 5G data transfer will offer a mere one-millisecond delay–we humans won’t notice the difference, but it will permit machines to achieve near-seamless communication. Which in itself may open a whole Pandora’s box of trouble for us – and our planet.

More bandwidth – more dangers of 5G


Let’s start with some basic background on 5G technology. Faster processing speeds require more bandwidth, yet our current frequency bandwidths are quickly becoming saturated. The idea behind 5G is to use untapped bandwidth of the extremely high-frequency millimeter wave (MMW), between 30GHz and 300GHz, in addition to some lower and mid-range frequencies.

High-frequency MMWs travel a short distance. Furthermore, they don’t travel well through buildings and tend to be absorbed by rain and plants, leading to signal interference. Thus, the necessary infrastructure would require many smaller, barely noticeable cell towers situated closer together, with more input and output ports than there are on the much larger, easier to see 4G towers. This would likely result in wireless antennas every few feet, on every lamp post and utility pole in your neighbourhood.

Here are some numbers to put the dangers of 5G into perspective: as of 2015, there were 308,000 wireless antennas on cell towers and buildings. That’s double the 2002 number. Yet 5G would require exponentially more, smaller ones, placed much closer together, with each emitting bursts of radiofrequency radiation (RFR)–granted, at levels much lower than that of today’s 4G cell towers–that will be much harder to avoid because these towers will be ubiquitous. If we could see the RFR, it would look like a smog that’s everywhere, all the time.

Dangers of 5G
Serious health concerns


First, it’s important to know that in 2011, the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer classified RFR as a potential 2B carcinogen and specified that the use of mobile phones could lead to specific forms of brain tumors.

Many studies have associated low-level RFR exposure with a litany of health effects, including:

DNA single and double-strand breaks (which leads to cancer)
oxidative damage (which leads to tissue deterioration and premature ageing)
disruption of cell metabolism
increased blood-brain barrier permeability
melatonin reduction (leading to insomnia and increasing cancer risks)
disruption of brain glucose metabolism
generation of stress proteins (leading to myriad diseases)

As mentioned, the new 5G technology utilizes higher-frequency MMW bands, which give off the same dose of radiation as airport scanners. The effects of this radiation on public health have yet to undergo the rigours of long-term testing. Adoption of 5G will mean more signals carrying more energy through the high-frequency spectrum, with more transmitters located closer to people’s homes and workplaces–basically a lot more (and more potent) RFR flying around us. It’s no wonder that apprehension exists over potential risks, to both human and environmental health.

Perhaps the strongest concern involves adverse effects of MMWs on human skin. This letter to the Federal Communications Commission, from Dr Yael Stein of Jerusalem’s Hebrew University, outlines the main points. Over ninety percent of microwave radiation is absorbed by the epidermis and dermis layers, so human skin basically acts as an absorbing sponge for microwave radiation. Disquieting as this may sound, it’s generally considered acceptable so long as the violating wavelengths are greater than the skin layer’s dimensions. But MMW’s violate this condition.

Furthermore, the sweat ducts in the skin’s upper layer act like helical antennas, which are specialized antennas constructed specifically to respond to electromagnetic fields. With millions of sweat ducts, and 5G’s increased RFR needs, it stands to reason that our bodies will become far more conductive to this radiation. The full ramifications of this fact are presently unclear, especially for more vulnerable members of the public (e.g., babies, pregnant women, the elderly), but this technology

Furthermore, MMWs may cause our pain receptors to flare up in recognition of the waves as damaging stimuli. Consider that the US Department of Defense already uses a crowd-dispersal method called the Active Denial System, in which MMWs are directed at crowds to make their skin feel like it’s burning, and also has the ability to basically microwave populations to death from afar with this technology if they choose to do so. And the telecommunications industry wants to fill our atmosphere with MMWs?

Other distressing research

Unfortunately, innocent animals have already been the victims of testing to see MMW’s effects on living cells. Extrapolating the results from animal testing to humans isn’t straightforward, but the results nonetheless raise some serious red flags. Perhaps most significantly, a US National Toxicology Program study noted that male rats exposed to RFR for nine hours a day over two years developed rare forms of tumours in the brain and heart, and rats of both sexes developedDNA damage.

The researchers noted that the increased risk to the rats was relatively small; but if these findings translate to humans, the widespread increase in cellphone use could have a significant impact on populations. Thus the NTP study served to renew the debate about the potential harmful effects of cellphones on human health. Not only that, it caused a significant shift in the American Cancer Society’s understanding of radiation and cancer, and sparked them to state that our ignorance of RFR’s impact on human health could be compared to our previous obliviousness to the connection between smoking and lung cancer.

Other animal research worldwide illustrates how microwave radiation in general and MMW’s in particular can damage the eyes and immune system, cell growth rate, even bacterial resistance. An experiment at the Medical Research Institute of Kanazawa Medical University showed that 60GHz millimeter-wave antennas produce thermal injuries in rabbit eyes, with thermal effects reaching below the eye’s surface.

This study, meanwhile, suggests low-level MMW’s caused lens opacity–a precursor to cataracts–in rats’ eyes. A Chinese study demonstrated that eight hours’ of microwave radiation damaged rabbits’ lens epithelial cells. A Pakistani study concluded that exposure to mobile phone EMF prevented chicken embryo retinal cells from properly differentiating.

This Russian study revealed that exposing healthy mice to low-intensity, extremely high-frequency electromagnetic radiation severely compromised their immune systems. And a 2016 Armenian study concluded that low-intensity MMW’s not only depressed the growth of E. coli and other bacteria, but also changed certain properties and activity levels of the cells. The same Armenian study noted that MMW interaction with bacteria could lead to antibiotic resistance–distressing news, considering immunity to bacteria is already compromised due to the overuse of antibiotics.

Again, if these findings translate to humans, our rampant cellphone use would likely cause profound, adverse health effects; an increase in MMW’s as more bandwidth is introduced could further complicate the matter.

But what’s also important to note here is that the danger of 5G technology can not only have a profound impact on human health, but on the health of all living organisms it touches, including plants, as we shall see.

The dangers of 5G extends to the planet, too

Equally disturbing, 5G technology puts environmental health at risk in a number of ways. First, MMWs may pose a serious threat to plant health. This 2010 study showed that the leaves of aspen seedlings exposed to RFR exhibited symptoms of necrosis, while another Armenian study suggested low-intensity MMW’s cause “peroxidase isoenzyme spectrum changes”–basically a stress response that damages cells–in wheat shoots. Plant irradiation is bad news for the planet’s flora, but it’s bad news for us, too: it could contaminate our food supply.

Second, the 5G infrastructure would pose a threat to our planet’s atmosphere. Network implementation will require the deployment of many, short-lifespan satellites via suborbital rockets propelled by hydrocarbon rocket engines. According to this 2010 California study, launching too many of these babies will vomit enough black carbon into the atmosphere to pollute global atmospheric conditions, affecting distribution of ozone and temperature. Worse, solid-state rocket exhaust contains chlorine, an ozone-destroying chemical. How can any government seriously concerned about climate change allow for this?

Third, 5G will potentially threaten natural ecosystems. According to several reports over the last two decades–some of which are summarized here–low-level, non-ionizing microwave radiation affects bird and bee health. It drives birds from their nests and causes plume deterioration, locomotion problems, reduced survivorship and death. And bee populations suffer from reduced egg-laying abilities of queen bees and smaller colony sizes. More evidence of ecosystem disruption comes from this 2012 meta-study, which indicates that 593 of 919 research studies suggest that RFR adversely affects plants, animals and humans.

It bears repeating: 5G is bad news for all living creatures and the planet we share.

Beware the propaganda deluge

Despite being fully aware of all these unsettling results, threats and concerns, the US corporatocracy continues to maintain a gung-ho attitude about 5G. The Mobile Now Act was passed in 2016, and many US states have since gone ahead with 5G plans. The telecom industry’s biggest players have basically co-opted government powers to enforce their 5G agenda, with companies like AT&T and Qualcomm having begun live testing. And despite research showing serious threats to humans and the planet, the FCC Chairman announced intentions to open low-, mid- and high-frequency spectrums, without even mentioning a single word about the dangers.

They’re going to sell this to us as ‘faster browsing speeds’ – but the truth is, you’ll barely even notice the difference. They’re going to call anyone who protests against 5G a ‘Luddite’ or ‘technophobe’. But why such a willingness to embrace another new technology – even though it carries serious risks and brings spurious benefits? Why not heed the lessons learned from killer products like asbestos, tobacco and leaded gasoline?

Because a tiny percentage of people will gain an awful lot of money, is one reason. And because companies and governments will be given unprecedented amounts of power over civilians is the other.

All isn’t doom and gloom, though. At least one US politician is maintaining some level-headedness: in October, California Governor Jerry Brown stopped legislation that would have allowed the telecom industry to inundate the state with mini-towers. Brown’s bold actions have permitted localities a say in where and how many cell towers are placed.

The state of Hawaii has stopped 5G and smart meters by collectively threatening to charge every person who installed such meters with liability for any health problems residents may suffer. Moreover, 180 scientists have started a petition to warn of the dangers of 5G, especially its potential health effects. Maybe these actions will afford more time for additional studies and data collection. Just as importantly, maybe they’ll cause other politicians and figureheads to reflect on what they’ve been pushing for.

Take action

In the meantime, we as individuals must do everything we can to protect ourselves against the dangers of 5G. Here’s what you can do:

Understand EMFs and their behaviours. Get a good quality radiation detector to know whether or not you’re near high levels of EMFs.
Protect yourself with an EMF Shield to mark and protect you from hotspots. Try a patented product that neutralizes the harmful effects of mobile phones and other EMF emitting devices on humans.
Whenever possible, limit your exposure: use an anti-radiation headset or speaker mode while talking on a cellphone.
Learn more. This network has tons of great information and ideas on how to protect yourself.
Refuse to use 5G phones and devices. Full stop. And discourage those you know from doing so.
Refuse to buy anything ‘smart’ – ‘smart’ appliances, ‘smart’ heaters, etc.

No matter what, do NOT get a smart meter – these put high levels of 5G radiation right in your home
Join the growing numbers of dissenters against the dangers of 5G. Get active with them here.

Chapter 7: The Great Risks of 5G: What We Know and What We Don’t Know ( See the book for references)

We have already discussed two issues that are essential to understanding 5G. One is that pulsed EMFs are, in most cases, much more biologically active than are non-pulsed (often called continuous wave) EMFs. A second is that the EMFs act by putting forces on the voltage sensor of the VGCCs, opening these calcium channels and allowing excessive calcium ions to flow into the cell. The voltage sensor is extraordinarily sensitive to those electrical forces, such that the safety guidelines are allowing us to be exposed to EMFs that are something like 7.2 million times too high.

The reason that the industry has decided to go to the extremely high frequencies of 5G is that with such extremely high frequencies, it is possible to carry much more information via much more pulsation than it is possible to carry with lower frequencies even in the microwave range. We can be assured, therefore, that 5G will involve vastly more pulsation than do EMFs that we are currently exposed to. It follows from that, that any biological safety test of 5G must use the very rapid pulsations including whatever very short term spikes may be present, that are to be present in genuine 5G. There is an additional process that is planned to be used in 5G: phased arrays (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phased_array). Here multiple antenna elements act together to produce highly pulsed fields which are designed for 5G, to produce increased penetration. 5G will entail particularly powerful pulsations to be used, which may, therefore, be particularly hazardous.

The only data we have, to my knowledge, on millimeter wave frequencies of 5G used non-pulsed EMFs in the millimeter frequency range of 5G, not genuine 5G. Such millimeter waves have been shown to produce a number of downstream effects of VGCC activation. One millimeter wave study showed that it activated both the VGCCs and also the voltage-gated potassium channels, suggesting that it worked via the voltage sensor, as do other EMFs [136]. Any such data tells us almost nothing about how biologically active genuine very highly pulsed 5G will be.

I take it that from their statements, that both Mr. Ryan and Dr. Vinciūnas are ready to put out 10s of millions of 5G antennae to afflict every single person in the EU with 5G radiation without even a single biological test of safety of genuine 5G. In the U.S., the FCC has taken a much worse position. The FCC is not only willing to allow such completely untested exposures but has also been has been aggressively pushing to promote installation of 5G antennae, such that antennae are already being installed in parts of the U.S. In a world where shocking behavior has become less and less shocking, I consider EU and U.S. views and actions to be shocking. The U.S. situation is mass insanity. I would have hoped that the Europeans, who think of themselves as being much more thoughtful than Americans, would have been genuinely more thoughtful.

Why does 5G need such high numbers of antennae? It is because the 5G radiation is much more absorbed as it enters various materials. The approach is to use many more antennae with one found every few houses, such that 5G can sufficiently penetrate local walls. Such absorption usually involves the interaction with electrically charged groups, such that such high absorption is likely to involve placing forces on electrically charged groups. Because such forces are the way in which EMFs activate the VGCCs, it seems highly likely, therefore, that 5G radiation will be particularly active in VGCC activation.

In summary, then, 5G is predicted to be particularly dangerous for each of four different reasons:

The extraordinarily high numbers of antennae that are planned.
The very high energy outputs which will be used to ensure penetration.
The extraordinarily high pulsation levels.

4.The apparent high level interactions of the 5G frequency on charged groups presumably including the voltage sensor charged groups.

Now what the telecommunications industry argues is that 5G radiation will be mostly absorbed in the outer 1 or 2 mm of the body, such that they claim that we don’t have to worry about the effects. There is some truth to that, but there are also some caveats that make any conclusions made from that, much more suspect. In any case, these surface effects of 5G will have especially strong impact on organisms with much higher surface to volume ratios. Consequently, I predict that many organisms will be much more impacted than we will. This includes insects and other arthropods, birds and small mammals and amphibia. It includes plants including even large trees, because trees have leaves and reproductive organs that are highly exposed. I predict there will be major ecological disasters as a consequence of 5G.

This will include vast conflagrations because EMF exposures make plants much more flammable.

But let’s get back to humans. The industry has also made claims that more conventional microwave frequency EMFs are limited in effect to the outer 1 cm of the body. We know that is not true, however because of the effects deep in the human brain, on the heart and on hormone systems. Perhaps the most important two studies demonstrating effects deep within the body are the studies of Professor Hässig and his colleagues in Switzerland on cataract formation in newborn calves [137,138]. These two studies clearly show that when pregnant cows are grazing near mobile phone base stations (also called cell phone towers), the calves are born with very greatly increased incidences of cataracts. It follows from these findings that even though the developing fetuses are very deep in the body of the mother and should be highly protected from the EMF exposures, they are not so protected. And because the EMF safety guidelines in Switzerland are 100 times more stringent than are the safety guidelines in most of the rest of Europe, in the U.S., Canada and most of the rest of the world, the more general safety guidelines allow greatly excessive exposures and penetration of effects. The claims of industry that microwave frequency EMFs only act in the outer centimeter of the body are clearly false.

How then can both conventional microwave frequency EMFs and 5G radiation act deeply within the body? You may correctly observe that the electrical effects of the EMFs activate the voltage sensor and that the direct electrical forces are rapidly attenuated in the body. So how can we get deep effects? I think the answer is that the magnetic parts of the EMFs have been known for decades to penetrate much more deeply than do the electrical parts. The magnetic fields put forces on mobile electrically charged groups dissolved in the aqueous phases of the body and small individual movements of the charged groups can regenerate electric fields that are essentially identical to the electric fields of the original EMFs, carrying the same frequency and same pulsation pattern, although with lower intensity. An example of this is given in the Lu and Ueno [139] study. Because the voltage sensor is so stunningly sensitive to electrical forces and part of the reason for that is the very high level of amplification of the electrical field across the plasma membrane, we have an almost perfect way in which to produce EMF effects deeply within our bodies.

I am very concerned that 5G may produce effects like those we already see produced from lower frequency EMFs but are much more severe. I am also concerned that we will also see responses that are qualitatively different. Let me give you three possible examples of the latter type and one quantitative example. Each of the four types of blindness, have downstream effects of VGCC activation as causal factors: cataracts, detached retinas, glaucoma and macular degeneration. The aqueous and vitreous humors in the eye may be an ideal environment for the regeneration of the electrical fields within the eye. We may, therefore have a gigantic epidemic of each of the four types of blindness. Another concern focuses on kidney dysfunction, which was shown in Chapter 5 to be impacted by EMFs. The kidneys have much fluid, both blood and also what will become urine, which may allow efficient the regeneration of electrical fields. Such regeneration may be expected to impact both the glomerular filtration and also the reabsorption, both essential to kidney function.

Does this mean that 5G will produce very large increases in kidney failure? The only way to find out is to do biological safety testing of genuine 5G radiation. Let me give you a third example. Fetuses and very young babies have much more water in their bodies than do adults. Therefore, they may be a special risk for impacts of 5G, because of great increases in the regeneration of the electrical fields. Here one can think of all kinds of possibilities. Let me suggest two. We may have a gigantic (sorry about using that word again) epidemic of spontaneous abortion due the teratogenic effects. Another possibility is that instead of autism being one birth in 38, however horrendous that is, it could be one out of two, or even a majority of births. I don’t know that these will happen, but these are the kinds of risks we are taking and there are many others one can think of. Putting in tens of millions of 5G antennae without a single biological test of safety has got to be about the stupidest idea anyone has had in the history of the world.

This brings us back to the earlier point. The only way to do 5G safety testing is to do genuine 5G biological safety testing. I have published on how this can be done relatively easily at relatively low cost and have, as you saw in the Chapter 6, told the FCC how this can be done. Those tests must be done by organizations completely independent of industry and that leaves out both ICNIRP and SCENIHR and a lot of other organizations.

Now we will get into the precautionary principle which is specially relevant to the EU but may have lessons for all of us.

Dr. Vinciūnas’ last full paragraph reads as follows:

“The recourse to the EU’s precautionary principle to stop distribution of 5G products appears too drastic a measure. We need first to see how this technology will be applied and how the scientific evidence will evolve. Please be assured that the Commission will keep abreast of the scientific evidence in view of safeguarding the health of European citizens at the highest level possible and in line with its mandate.”

Article 191 defines the Precautionary Principle as follows:

“According to the European Commission the precautionary principle may be invoked when a phenomenon, product or process may have a dangerous effect, identified by a scientific and objective evaluation, if this evaluation does not allow the risk to be determined with sufficient certainty.

Recourse to the principle belongs in the general framework of risk analysis (which, besides risk evaluation, includes risk management and risk communication), and more particularly in the context of risk management which corresponds to the decision-making phase.

The Commission stresses that the precautionary principle may only be invoked in the event of a potential risk and that it can never justify arbitrary decisions. The precautionary principle may only be invoked when the three preliminary conditions are met:

* identification of potentially adverse effects;

* evaluation of the scientific data available;

* the extent of scientific uncertainty.”

The question now is what about 5G? We have with 5G strong suspicions of similar or much more severe risk of effects documented elsewhere in this document. We have no biological safety testing of genuine 5G radiation. Therefore, we have no risk analysis or risk management because we have no risk assessment whatsoever on 5G. So here we have Dr. Vinciūnas arguing that the request for precautionary principle application is premature. But it is not the request for the use of the precautionary principle that is premature, it is the Commission’s claim that it has done the required risk analysis and risk assessment. This is the bizarre world that we live in.

The European Commission has done nothing to protect European citizens from the very serious health hazards and the U.S. FDA, EPA and National Cancer Institute have done nothing to protect U.S. citizens. The U.S. FCC has been worse than that, acting in wanton disregard for our health.

Let me close, as follows. There have been certain points in our history where people have stood up to strong destructive forces against what often appeared to be insurmountable odds. Those people are THE most honored people in our history. The people who failed to do so are among the most despised people in our history. I am not at all sure we will have historians to record us 100 years from now or even 30 years from now, given the direction in which we are heading. But if we do, rest assured that these are the standards by which we will all be judged.

5G Cell Phone Radiation: How the Telecom Companies Are Losing the Battle to Impose 5G Against the Will of the People

The telecommunications companies and the mainstream media would have you believe that the race to roll out 5G is unstoppable. That you are nothing and no one in the face of a lethal multi-trillion-dollar agenda imposed by some of the most powerful entities on the planet.

They thought that if they called their new, alleged “communications technology”, adapted from the military Active Denial Technology, “5G” or fifth generation, the public would just assume that it was more of the same as 4G, 3G or 2G. And if they could characterise the rollout as a race, the public would not have enough time to find out what a killer technology 5G is. How wrong they were! Not only has the public found out, but now they know how lethal previous generations of wireless technology – to be used concurrently with 5G – are as well.

Below is the evidence from a number of different countries that the pushback is huge and growing. The telcos have lost the propaganda war, despite their control of the mainstream media, from which not a whisper of the dangers of 5G is heard, and of social media and Youtube, who have been desperately deleting millions of accounts to silence the naysayers.

As this article went to press, support arrived from an unexpected source. In an impassioned speech before the United Nations General Assembly on 24 September 2019, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated that digital authoritarianism is not the stuff of dystopian fantasy but of an emerging reality. He described the Internet of Things, “smart” cities and AI as a giant, dark thundercloud lowering ever more oppressively over the human race, a gathering force reshaping the future of humanity over which the human race has no control and from which, in future, there may be nowhere to hide.

He asked if algorithms could be trusted with our lives and hopes and whether machines should be allowed to doom us to a cold and heartless future in an Orwellian world designed for censorship, repression and control. He recalled the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and endorsed its ideals of upholding freedom of opinion and expression, the privacy of home and correspondence, and the right to seek and impart information and ideas

He exhorted the academic committees, company boards and industry standards groups who are writing the rulebooks of the future, making ethical judgements, and choosing what will or will not be rendered possible to find the right balance between freedom and control, between innovation and regulation, between private enterprise and government oversight. He insisted that the ethical judgements inherent in the design of new technology must be made transparent to all and that joint efforts must be made to agree a common set of global principles to shape the norms and standards that will guide the development of emerging technology.

What follows is a citizen journalist’s list of the actions taken to halt 5G and reports and complaints that have discredited this Machiavellian attempt to foist a disastrous technology on the world in 2019. It is not an exhaustive list and I extend my apologies to all those whose efforts I may have overlooked here and much gratitude to all who have contributed to making this pushback so successful.

However, we cannot afford to be complacent and, in particular, we must work to stop the use of the Earth orbits and the stratosphere to beam 5G down to Earth, for this puts the ionosphere and the entire planet at risk. We must also work to ensure that the use of street lights with blue light for this anti-life agenda is rapidly reversed.

The effort to stop 5G is still gathering momentum and we must continue to work together and tirelessly to protect all life on Earth and the planet itself until this demented plan is relegated to the history books as the most Mephistophelian scheme in the history of humankind.
