"The patient’s son, Michael Smentkiewicz, said hospital officials had told him and his sister, Michelle Kulbacki, on Dec. 31 that their mother’s chance of survival – as an 80-year-old Covid-19 patient on a ventilator – was about 20%.
He said doctors at the hospital also told the family that Smentkiewicz would probably be on a ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit for at least a month.
“We did a lot of our own research, we read about Ivermectin ... The results sounded very promising, and we decided we had to try something different,” Michael Smentkiewicz said. “We pressured the doctor in the ICU to give it to her. He finally agreed.”
On Jan. 2, Smentkiewicz was given her first dose of Ivermectin, and according to court papers filed by her family, she made “a complete turnaround.”
“In less than 48 hours, my mother was taken off the ventilator, transferred out of the Intensive Care Unit, sitting up on her own and communicating,” Kulbacki said in a court affidavit. 
But after her mother was transferred to another hospital wing away from the ICU, doctors in that unit refused to give her any more doses of the drug, and her cond

* No End in Sight: America's Enduring Reliance on Life Imprisonment by Senior Research Analyst Ashley Nellis, finding that one in seven people in prison — amounting to 203,865 individuals — is serving a sentence of life without parole, life with parole or a virtual life sentence of at least 50 years.  
The Sentencing Project calls for the abolition of life-without-parole sentences and a 20-year cap on all life sentences.
Key findings include: 
• Life sentences in 2020 were five times their level in 1984 — the first nationwide count of people serving such sentences.
• The number of women serving life sentences is outpacing the rise in the number of men serving life. Between 2008 and 2020, the number of women serving LWOP increased 43 percent, compared to a 29 percent increase among men.
• People 55 and older account for 12 percent of state prison populations but a higher concentration of the life-sentenced population, 30 percent.
• Over 10,000 people are serving a life sentence for a crime committed when they were less than 18-years-old. Important legal rulings have narrowed the allowable use of life imprisonment for juveniles facing life without parole, but much work remains on behalf of young people serving life with parole and virtual prison sentences of 50 years or more.
• 3,972 people serving life sentences have been convicted for a drug-related offense and 38% of these are in the federal prison system

·      An agent was harassed until he retired because he stood up for a disabled vet who was removed from the FBI Academy solely for his disability, despite passing all agent requirements, including firearms and tactical training. The FBI then offered this wounded warrior a job as a janitor.
·      One highly ranked FBI employee was made to sit alone on the 24th floor of the New York office for years without equipment or work because he wouldn't rescind his report of timecard fraud.
·      An agent was fired for “tarnishing” the FBI's name when she told federal prosecutors that FBI employees were stealing from 9/11 Ground Zero.
·      An agent who was investigating whether white supremacists were planning a joint operation with an overseas terror group was removed from his casework when he reported an illegal electronic monitoring and records falsification. The terror case was closed without further investigation.
·      A whistleblower was fired because he kept reporting fake security clearance background checks.
·      Yet another, who was hired specifically to help revamp FBI procurement policies and procedures, was fired because he continued to report contract waste, fraud, and abuse.

The FBI, Fred Hampton and the Mythology of the Panthers

Judas and the Black Messiah” is the story of Fred Hampton’s assassination by the Chicago police in 1969. Co-written by Will Berson, a Jew, and Shaka King, an African-American, it unites a team that worked together in the past on featherweight TV comedies. In addition to co-authorship of the screenplay, King served as director.
They have made a well-researched, by-the-numbers biopic that will help many young people understand the depravity of the FBI, just as Aaron Sorkin’s “Trial of the Chicago 7” helped expose the city’s cops and judicial system. Unlike Sorkin, Berson and King did not twist the story to suit their own political agenda. However, by relying on the unfortunate mythology that has arisen around the Black Panther Party in the past half-century, some further analysis will be necessary for a deeper understanding of the period and how the ruling class was able to murder a promising young leader.

The first of our two speakers will be Dr. Meryl Nass, who has been an expert on anthrax for more than 30 years and who currently serves on the anthrax committee of the Lawyers’ Committee for 9/11 Inquiry. Programs that keep sex offenders indefinitely confined face new challenges.

Sold as a means of giving potentially dangerous sex offenders treatment for their conditions while indefinitely confining them, civil commitment programs invite skepticism about their motivation and effectiveness. While courts have signed off on the practice, keeping people locked up after they've served their prison sentences raises sticky legal and ethical questions.
Now a lawsuit and a recent hunger strike by Minnesota prisoners offers new opportunities to reconsider and reform the practice.
At the end of February, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit gave the green light to a lawsuit challenging Minnesota's civil commitment program for sex offenders. Importantly, the court allowed the plaintiffs to argue that civil commitment as practiced in the state is punitive in nature—something that's not permitted of a supposedly therapeutic program.  MORE:

Current status of ivermectin

While NIH's guidelines committee was presented with a mound of data, which resulted in a change of recommendation from 'against' its use for Covid to 'neutral' on use, major efforts elsewhere were made to stop the use of ivermectin for Covid.
The FDA, European Medicines Agency and the WHO have all issued statements in the past 2 months recommending against the use of ivermectin, without a clear rationale.
Twice in the past week I have had a pharmacist refuse to fill a script for ivermectin for patients.  They said they were using their best judgement and there was no authority forcing them to restrict it.  One cited the WHO guidance.  So far, no official channels have clamped down, but this could happen any day.  Please share the information and consider obtaining a supply so that this most effective medicine will be available if someone in your family develops Covid.
On the other hand, while the equivalent of the FDA in South Africa (SAHPRA) prohibited the use of ivermectin on December 24, they were taken to court over it.  The case finally concluded--our side won!!!!-- and as of today ivermectin is freely available to treat Covid in South Africa.  Kudos to the legal team, doctors and plaintiffs who brought this action!  Thanks to PANDA for keeping us informed and for its work on the cases.

This was told to me by pharmacists, who stated that the decision came from their corporate offices.  It seems the companies have not posted the information on their websites at this time.  Last year, CVS refused to fill hydroxychloroquine prescriptions for Covid.
As I mentioned earlier, these decisions are unprecedented for a licensed drug.  More later

Here's the skinny on what happened yesterday and today regarding the booster dose

Last Friday, FDA's advisory committee (VRBPAC) voted 16 to 2 against giving a license to a third Pfizer booster shot for everyone age 16 and up.
Although a second vote at Friday's meeting had not been planned, another question was hastily developed. That question asked whether the vaccine could be licensed for a third booster dose for high risk people under the age of 65.  That vote got a unanimous yes.
The panels decisions are not final. The FDA is obliged to take the panels advice into consideration, but it is not required to adopt it. So yesterday, the FDA issued an EUA, not a license, for the Pfizer vaccine for the booster dose.
But in doing so, FDA added an additional category of people for the booster dose,  a category that had not been included in the Advisory Committee's vote:
* "individuals 18 through 64 years of age whose frequent institutional or occupational exposure to SARS-CoV-2 puts them at high risk of serious complications of COVID-19 including severe COVID-19."
This is what I call weasel wording. This statement does not make sense. People whose occupation puts them at high risk of exposure to

September was yet another warmer than usual month, especially with regards to the night-time low temperatures.  We didn’t have many really warm summer-like days, mainly because we had quite a few low pressure systems that tended to bring a lot of clouds and humidity into the region.  But part of that humid air was right from the tropics and so any rain that fell tended to be quite a lot and it all added up to an extraordinary rain-fall total for the month that was over ten and a half inches more than usual!!  The preponderance of humid tropical air also helped keep the night-time temperatures noticeably warmer than usual whenever it spread over the region and it more than made up for the few instances of cooler and drier air from Canada that tended to become more frequent toward the end of the month.  But even that air was relatively mild for the season since most of Canada remained much warmer than usual for September.  Our total heating degrees were only 42 compared with the average of 125 for a more typical September.  In fact, it was even less than the 50 heating degrees of last year which was also a warmer than usual month.

Abstract
Police sexual misconduct is often considered a hidden crime that routinely goes
unreported. The current study provides an empirical data on cases of sex-related police crime at law enforcement agencies across the United States. The study identifies and describes incidents where sworn law enforcement officers were arrested for one or more sex-related crimes through a quantitative content analysis of published newspaper articles and court records. The primary news information source was the Google News search engine using 48 automated Google Alerts. Data are analyzed on 548 arrest cases in the years 2005-2007 of 398 officers employed by 328 nonfederal law enforcement agencies located in 265 counties and independent cities in 43 states and the District of Columbia. Findings indicate that police sexual misconduct includes serious forms of sex-related crime and that victims of sex-related police crime are typically younger than 18 years of age.

Here is information about the first 3 matters taken up by the Board of Medical Licensure in my case. Guess I am guilty of giving the correct, safest drug to a pregnant woman

The Maine Board of Medical Licensure has 5 matters before it in my case. Here are the first 3:
The first 2 are complaints from private citizens, who claimed that I spread misinformation on the internet.  Neither complainant knows me or is a patient.  Neither complaint has anything to do with medical care.  Each says the complaint was initiated after they watched me in a video. One said the information I was disseminatiog was a "danger to the public." 
The third complaint is from a midwife who complained that I gave a pregnant patient hydroxychloroquine for acute COVID without asking her, when she could have given the patient monoclonal antibodies instead.
My response is that hydroxychloroquine is approved in pregnancy and is a safe, licensed drug.  Monoclonal antibodies are an experimental biologic product that have not been approved in pregnancy; in fact, the pregnancy risks have not even been studied. The midwife apparently did not know this about the product she is prescribing in pregnancy.
Unapproved drugs have no label.  For a legal description of what is known about them, one must read a fact sheet.  For example, here is what the FDA-approved Fact Sheet for sotrovimab, the only commonly used monoclonal said to be effective against omicron, says about its risk in pregnancy:

"11.1 Pregnancy Risk Summary 
There are insufficient data to evaluate a drug-associated risk of major birth defects, miscarriage, or adverse maternal or fetal outcome. Sotrovimab should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk for the mother and the fetus. Nonclinical reproductive toxicity studies have not been conducted with sotrovimab. In a crossreactive binding assay using a protein array enriched for human embryofetal proteins, no offtarget binding was detected for sotrovimab. Since sotrovimab is a recombinant human immunoglobulin G (IgG) containing the LS modification in the Fc domain, it has the potential for placental transfer from the mother to the developing fetus. The potential treatment benefit or risk of placental transfer of sotrovimab to the developing fetus is not known. The estimated background risk of major birth defects and miscarriage for the indicated population is unknown."
On the other hand, the label for hydroxychloroquine says the following about use in pregnancy:
"Pregnancy 
Teratogenic Effects: Human pregnancies resulting in live births have been reported in the literature and no increase in the rate of birth defects has been demonstrated. Embryonic deaths and malformations of anophthalmia and microphthalmia in the offspring have been reported when pregnant rats received large doses of chloroquine." 
What does CDC say about hydroxychloroquine in pregnancy?

"Hydroxychloroquine can be prescribed to adults and children of all ages. It can also be safely taken by pregnant women and nursing mothers."
Do you think perhaps the Medical Board and the complaining midwife bothered to check this information?  I think not.

The "crime" of misinformation is only a crime if the information is false and is known to be false by the person making the statement.

I would suggest that those attorneys who work for the Maine Medical Board look up the law regarding misinformation.  They also should be informed that they do not make the law:  law is made by legislatures and Congress.  They have not been given the authority to create new crimes.  My opinions, which are grounded in an enormous amount of fact and study, and are accurate almost all the time, do not meet the statutory standard of false information.
I would further suggest that the Board attorneys inform the Board members of this.  I think they might want to know that they have been handed a nonexistent crime to prosecute.

Shadows of the American Century

Historian Alfred McCoy has tracked the origins and development of the current global surveillance apparatus and provides us a framework to help us understand this complex set of state institutions and corporate monopolies. In his book, In the Shadows of the American Century, he tracks the origin point and development of what he calls ‘information regimes’.
 
Starting about 150 years ago, new technologies arose which provided the ruling classes of the US the methods to begin surveilling, tracking, spying and collecting information in a highly organized way. Since then, McCoy states that there have been 3 information regimes: the manual information regime, the computerized information regime, and the robotic information regime.
