Ed Tatro is a remarkable and inexhaustible writer. His manuscript, An Outsider’s Look at the Insufferable Leon Jaworski, written in the June 2022 issue of the Garrison Journal of History and Deep Politics, is an excellent example of his meticulous and sweeping research. Over a sixty-year period, Ed Tatro has seen several encouraging changes in our national culture. He demonstrates to us a chance to see the “dark side” of these transformations. Individuals, like Leon Jaworski, have brought about a succession of hypocritical misdeeds which have affected a multitude of changes within the United States legal viewpoint. Ed Tatro believes; “It is time for a metaphorical jury with a clearer perspective of the past eighty years to inspect the sketchy judicial tactics, banking manipulations and suspect political machinations of Leon Jaworski.” Jaworski consistently produced a lifelong pattern and commitment of exploiting clever agendas and sinister motives as he hid behind his moralistic veneer. He concealed his collusion with the most powerful forces and power mongers in the country.
 
Leon Jaworski was a member of German-speaking immigrants who grew-up in central Texas and was raised by his father, an evangelical pastor. Leon was a gifted student and graduated from high school at age fifteen. He earned a law degree and passed the bar at age nineteen. “Regardless of the crime and regardless of the decade in which it was committed, with Leon Jaworski central to the investigation, his modus operandi remained the same: “cover up, don’t make waves, avoid digging too deeply, protect the powers in control and find one easy target, hopefully in an open-and-shut case, slam-dunk case, prosecute, and convict the charged defendant. Justice appears to prevail, and the criminal underbelly of corruption maintains its amoral course.” Jaworski became the damage control master for some of the most powerful people in the world.
 
Ed Tatro sets into motion, Jaworski’s life in three segments: His military time as a lawyer rising to a coveted position as a Nuremberg Judge after WWII; His connection to the Warren Commission’s cover-up in the murder of President Kennedy and his exploits of President Richard Nixon in the Watergate scandal. Each of Ed’s meticulous presentations furnishes the reader with insider information never quite assembled in this order. Ed’s endnotes alone are significant contributions to factual information, which is rare in todays’ world.

The FBI “never once” told its
agents to investigate a possible con-
spiracy in the assassinations of John
and Robert Kennedy and Martin
Luther King, charges ex-agent
Arthur Murtagh.

In fact, leads that could have un-
covered a conspiracy ‘‘were disre-
garded,” he said.

“Had the FBI conducted a more
thorough probe, I’m convinced links
would have been established in all
three murders.

“And I am also convinced those
links would connect to one or more
right-wing subversive groups in the
United States, and reveal that they
masterminded the three deaths to slow
down the move toward liberalism in
the nation.

“But never once were we told to
investigate conspiracy,” said Mur-
tagh, who was an agent during all
three assassinations.

“We conducted a straight criminal
investigation. We never even looked
for conspiracy.

“We were cautioned over and over
again only to find the murderers, and
once we found them, that was to be
the end of it,” Murtagh continued.

“If we had investigated the three
assassinations the same way we in-

the Black Panthers — if we had de-
veloped informants in some of the
right-wing organizations — I'm sure
we’d have come up with something
that would have shocked the Ameri-
can people.”
"Murtagh complained that the Fed-
eral Bureau of Investigation has nev-
er investigated right-wing extremist
groups with anywhere near the inten-
sive effort the bureau expended in spy-
ing on left-wing and black activist
organizations.

He pointed out that from 1966 to
1971, when he retired from the FBI’s
Atlanta branch office, he was under
orders to recruit spies to infiltrate
black groups.

“I had 15 paid informants working
for me when I left,” said the 21-year
FBI veteran.

Murtagh said that he retired early
as a top-graded agent “because I saw
no reforms coming.”

leadership in the civil rights and lib-
eral movements in the nation.”
Summing up his feelings about the
FBI, Murtagh admitted: “I was ashamed to be a part of it. It was a
disgusting, degrading experience.”
He recalled an incident that hap-
pened to him the day King was as-
sassinated. “One agent stopped me in
the hallway at the Atlanta bureau and
announced: ‘They just got Zorro! They
shot him in Memphis!'
“Zorro was the FBI code name for
King. The agent was jubilant, really
excited and happy. That’s the kind
of mentality we had in the FBI.”

Germany’s awkward relationship with the internet continues. On one hand, the German government has told the EU government it’s not willing to follow orders that involve criminalizing encryption or mandating client-side scanning.
On the other hand, it does things like blacklist Techdirt (this happened in 2012) for supposedly offering up too much porn and violence. It followed that up by trying to block the full release of its list of blocked websites. And, for a brief amount of time, it was illegal to sell adult e-books before 10 pm local time. Yes, you read that correctly.
So, it’s been weird. And it’s not getting better. While the government seems unified against EU demands that will make German internet users less safe, certain government figures are trying to inflict their personal morality on the rest of the nation. While some aspects of the investigation into the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. remain unknown to the public - such as NSA’s tracking of James Earl Ray - others are unknowable simply because they were never properly investigated. The most egregious example is Loyd Jowers, who in 1993 confessed to participating in an alleged conspiracy to, with the U.S. government and the mafia, kill Dr. King, and was found culpable in court. While the Department of Justice denied the veracity of these claims, the FBI, however, never investigated the matter and have no files on the man.
While there are reasons to be skeptical about the account put forward by Jowers and those purportedly speaking on his behalf (the question of Jowers’ credibility is complicated by the number of statements made on Jowers’ behalf and not made by the man himself), the Department of Justice’s credibility is strained by their own handling of the case. According to the DOJ’s report, the matter was investigated by three attorneys from the Civil Rights Division and one attorney from the Criminal Division, along with inspectors from the Marshals Service, the ATF, and the Postal Service.
While no one from the FBI was listed as being part of the investigation, it seemed obvious that they would have played a role in it. The DOJ’s report, however, indicated that the Attorney General and FBI Director had ordered the Bureau not to

In Walled Culture the book (free digital versions available) there’s a chapter about the widely-used “notice and takedown” system, and its many abuses. One indicator of how bad things are, and how they are still getting worse, is the number of requests that Google receives to de-list links from its search results. Last year, Google had received more than 5.7 billion takedown requests over the past decade; now that figure has increased to over 6.7 billion in total. In other words, Google alone is receiving a billion takedown requests per year.

Everette Howard Hunt was born in Hamburg, on 9th October, 1918. During the Second World War Hunt served in the Office of Strategic Services. After the war he joined the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and for a while was stationed in China. While there he met and married Dorothy Wetzel.
In 1949 Hunt establish the first postwar CIA station in Mexico City. He also worked closely with President Anastasio Somoza of Nicaragua.
In his spare time Hunt wrote spy novels. This included East of Farewell (1942) Limit of Darkness (1944), Stranger in Town (1947), Bimini Run (1949) and The Violent Ones (1950) Hunt was involved in clandestine operations in Guatemala against President Jacobo Arbenz. The plot against Arbenz became part of Executive Action (a plan to remove unfriendly foreign leaders from power).
Tracy Barnes was eventually placed in charge of what became known as Operation Success. David Atlee Phillips was appointed to run the propaganda campaign against Arbenz's government. According to Phillips he initially questioned the right of the CIA to interfere in Guatemala: In his autobiography Phillips claims he said to Barnes: "But Arbenz became President in a free election. What right do we have to help someone topple his government and throw him out of office?" However, Barnes convinced him that it was vital important that the Soviets did not establish a "beachhead in Central America".
The CIA propaganda campaign included the distribution of 100,000 copies of a pamphlet entitled Chronology of Communism in Guatemala. They also produced three films on Guatemala for showing free in cinemas. David Atlee Phillips, along with Hunt, was responsible for running the CIA's Voice of Liberation radio station. Faked photographs were distributed that claimed to show the mutilated bodies of opponents of Arbenz. William (Rip) Robertson was also involved

Howard Hunt, a member of Nixon's Special Investigations Group (SIG), revealed that soon after the shooting he was contacted by Colson: "I was surprised to get a call from Chuck Colson the following morning, asking me to fly to Milwaukee, where Bremer lived, break into his home, and plant leftist literature to connect him to the Democrats." According to Hunt he replied: "Are you nuts? How the hell am I going to get into a sealed apartment that's being watched by the FBI?" Hunt later discovered that while Nixon was commenting publicly on the shooting as something "senseless and tragic," he was also "leaning on Colson to assign a break-in at Bremer's apartment." (24) William W. Turner has suggested that Hunt might have not been telling the whole truth about this telephone conversation. He has suggested that he night have been asking Hunt to remove any literature that linked Bremer to Nixon. (25)

Was there a conspiracy to kill Robert Kennedy?

The Assassination of Robert Kennedy by William Turner and Jonn Christian is a fascinating report of their investigation into the RFK assassination.
The story begins with the strange tale of Jerry Owen. Owen, who called himself the "Walking Bible" because he claimed he had all 31,173 verses of the Bible memorized, went to the Los Angeles Police on 5 June 1968, the day after Robert Kennedy was shot. He told a captivating if unbelievable story of how he had met Sirhan Sirhan a few days earlier.
Owen told the LAPD he had picked up a hitchhiker a few days before the assassination. The hitchhiker was Sirhan. Owen claimed Sirhan asked him to meet him at the Ambassador Hotel around 11pm or 12am the night before the assassination. The purpose of this meeting: Owen had a horse to sell Sirhan.
Sirhan changed his mind on the day and asked Owen to meet him at the hotel the following night (the night of the assassination). Owen said he couldn't make it that evening because he had other business to attend to. When Owen saw Sirhan on the television the next day, he got scared and went to the police.
The police reviewed Owen's checkered past and decided he had made up the story as a publicity stunt. The LAPD dropped Owen like a hot potato. This is where Turner and Christian pick up the trail.
While Turner and Christian find Owen's testimony about Sirhan to be improbable, they still are intrigued by Owen's knowledge about the crime, including details only available to the police. For example, Owen claimed Sirhan was going to buy a horse from him for $300; Sirhan was arrested with three $100 bills on him. Sirhan had had over $1,000 due to a recent insurance claim. He withdrew the last $300 from his account right before the assassination. The police asked his brother and mother what he was going to use the $300 for; Adel said, "to buy a horse." Sirhan was a part time stable hand and horse racing junkie. How could Owen know these details if he was making up the story?
The story Turner and Christian follow is compelling. Credible witnesses who can place Owen and Sirhan together in the weeks leading up to the assassination are found and their testimony taken. This leads the authors to conclude that Owen, while lying to cover his involvment, is scared for his life.
Turner and Christian delve into the forensic evidence. Sirhan was apprended with an Ivers Johnson .22 hand gun. This is a 8 shot weapon without a clip. Sirhan was apprehended while he was still firing shots. No witness saw Sirhan reload. Thus, when Turner and Christian uncover more than eight bullet holes in the pantry area of the Ambassador Hotel, they are forced to conclude there was more than one gunman--and by definition a conspiracy.
In his notebooks, Sirhan makes several strange ramblings. Among these are references to "De Salvo" or "Di Salvo". The idea of Sirhan being hypnoprogrammed was raised by the authors early on. The reference to De Salvo, they reason, may have referred to Dr. William J. Bryan, a prominent hypnotist in LA at the time. Dr. Bryan gained fame for cracking Albert De Salvo, the notorious Boston Strangler. Turner and Christian raise the issue of Bryan being involved in hypnoprogramming Sirhan but concede the evidence is only suggestive not compelling. To their credit, they do get the testimony of Bryan's secretary who said Bryan received a call moments after Wallace was shot; the call, the secretary said, pertained to the Wallace shooting.
Several strange coincidence crop up. The authors, to their credit, report these but do not make the mistake other writers sometimes make: drawing conclusions when the evidence is suggestive but not compelling. Among the weird coincidences are Owen's connections to Edgar Eugene Bradley and to Gail Aiken.
Turner and Christian took a statement from Owen in July of 1968 (when it became clear the LAPD was not interested). In this statement, Turner and Christian broach the subject of Edgar Eugene Bradley. Bradley was indicted by Jim Garrison during his case against New Orleans business man Clay Shaw for the JFK assassination. Bradley, it was reported, was impersonating a Secret Service officer on the famed Grassy Knoll. And Owen knew Bradley and was friends with Bradley's supervisor.
The second strange coincidence was Owen's close friendship with Gail Aiken. Owen, who had a televangelist show on a local station, had cultivated a flock of believers including Ms. Aiken. When Owen sued the station for defamation, he brought Aiken to court to testify as a character witness. Turner and Christian discovered that Aiken was the full-blooded sister of Arthur Bremer, the would-be assassin of George Wallace.
Turner and Christian have compiled a captivating read which is both informative, entertaining but not embellished. This is my definition of excellent investigative reporting.

In January 2022, 77-year-old Ruby Johnson’s house was raided by the Denver Police Department. Supposedly seeking a stolen vehicle and several guns, the SWAT team descended on Johnson’s house. The officers ordered anyone inside to come out of the house. Johnson complied, but that didn’t stop the SWAT team from attempting to destroy her house to find the contraband it was sure was located inside the home (which I guess includes the “stolen truck”). The SWAT team, with the home’s only resident in its temporary custody, proceeded to destroy her garage door with a battering ram, smash some ceiling panels (?), destroy some of her belongings, and otherwise leave her house in disarray.
The warrant was predicated on little more than a ping produced by Apple’s “Find My iPhone” feature. That ping (initiated by the victim of the truck and phone theft) managed

Is Article V the Solution to Our FBI Problem?

If the FBI wishes to continue surveilling Catholics as possible terrorists, visiting the home of citizens because they attended a political rally, or dragging elderly pajama-clad men out of their homes at gunpoint, it would be doing so under the oversight of the states.  A mere 26 states could close the bureau with a simple vote in their respective legislatures.  Congress would be free to reassign the bureau’s duties, but that too would be subject to abrogation should the states disapprove.
Would the FBI risk its own extinction by continuing its current path?  Or would its agents decide that obeying their oath isn’t such a bad idea after all?  How would other departments respond to such accountability?
Conducting an Article V convention, and obtaining ratification of proposals, would be a herculean effort.  But getting 38 states to agree with the necessity of imposing accountability on Washington seems much more achievable than attempting to use the federal government to take corrective action on the federal government.
