My buddy Madhava Setty, MD, was a mechanical engineer with an MIT degree, before he decided to become a doctor instead. Having believed the MSM narrative about 9/11 for many years, presumably because he was too busy doctoring (and not because he was ignorant nor gullible), he finally awoke a few years ago.
He did not just awake. He dove into the details of 9/11 the way an engineer would.
But he did something else. He tried to figure out why people like himself had bought the narrative. How could so many people be so gullible? And he wrote a book to help people do just that, titled “Woke.” It’s a very good book, very different from a self-help book. It’s not psychology. But IS helping us be smarter people. Very different from any book I have ever read. I’d give it 5 stars. And it has nothing to do with Wokeness, thank goodness.

Over the last few years, we’ve seen a bunch of politicians trying to frame their regulation of the internet as not being about regulating speech, but about “design” or “process” or some such. But when you scratch beneath the surface, they’re always really about regulating speech. Whether it’s KOSA or California’s Age Appropriate Design Code (AADC) in the US, or the DSA in the EU, there is plenty of ink spilt to defend the claim that they’re not really about censorship.
Just recently we wrote about the Ninth Circuit seeing through California’s AADC. The politicians behind the law insisted it wasn’t about regulating content, only conduct. But the court recognized that was obviously not true. Then, over in the EU, we have the DSA, which European officials insist is never supposed to be used for moderating content, but where the guy in charge of enforcing it seems to think

In the years when J. Edgar Hoover was the Director of the F.B.I., these warrantless break-ins came to be known as “black-bag jobs”. This archive edition of Radio Curious is a December 1995 interview with Wesley Swearingen a former F.B.I. agent, who in 1995 wrote “FBI Secrets: An Agent’s Expose.” His book describes some of the “black-bag” warrantless searches in which he was involved and his opinion of those activities. He ends his book by saying that the Hoover era will continue to haunt the F.B.I. because Hoover knowingly undermined the United States Constitution. When I spoke with Wesley Swearingen, I asked him what he meant by that.
