Good to see you both, psynapz and simulist.

chlamor was banned if I'm not mistaken. I have to agree with HMW I'd like to see a forum/thread explaining the whys and howtos of bannings.

And here's to my favoriate number, 23!

While we're at it, I'll say again... I miss OP ED. He pops in from time to time, but not enough :(

Thanks, 82 (and to Stefano, too). I've been pretty busy lately; although I've been reading the board here and there, I haven't had much time to post.

What was he banned for? I don't remember him being one to get into conversations with other people so much. Was it for posting objectionable material? Like the part about hanging the ivy league economics professors?

23 isn't banned.

chlamor's account was suspended on account of his role in fostering fractious drama between RI and Progressive Independent. I told him he could return with a new attitude, but haven't heard from him.

Thanks for explaining about chlamor. I enjoyed his posts.

I didn't mean to imply the 23 was banned, just toasting him.

The account of the individual known as Krysos has been deactivated for trolling the board on the "Man up" thread. How's that for transparency?

I agree.

I've been informed that FiledActivity was banned for posting this:

Bullying at R.I.

http://www.rigorousintuition.ca/board2/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=29410

If this is so, I'm dismayed. I mean, all he did was say things that were true:

- that he's Delta Dawn's son
- that Delta Dawn and Cordelia were childhood friends
- that bullying takes place on R.I.

He did directly call out Project Willow for bullying, but would the thread have degenerated into a smear fest? I doubt it, since anyone who reads this blog knows that the overwhelming majority of P.W.'s posts are informative and non abusive towards other posters.

I could understand locking the thread, but banning him? Geez, he's a young man defending his mother, which is something I find admirable. I don't think Project Willow, or anyone here for that matter, should have to put up with being insulted, but she shouldn't be allowed to insult and falsely accuse others either.

I have a lot of respect and appreciation for Jeff and for what he writes and does, and the idea of having to moderate this board makes me think of the movie 'Kindergarten Cop', but the banning of FiledActivity and the silence around it seem wrong.

Thanks for understanding it's difficult to moderate a board like this. Much of that difficulty comes down to two things:

1. We shouldn't presume people always tell the truth about themselves on the Internet, and
2. RI has made some enemies.

There are hard calls, and sometimes wrong calls, but for the health of the board and the protection of its members, moderators moderate with these in mind.

I don't really understand. Filedactivity's banning seems excessive and wrong.

And if this is one those "wrong calls" you speak of, there are remedies.

This board has been heavily trolled in the past, and I presume that it continues to be.

While I am not privy to the many details of all this drama — and neither are you, Free — this much does seem pretty clear: when Jeff has made the "wrong call," it has most often been when he has good-naturedly given people the benefit of the doubt, even when this has not been deserved.
