Pinched nerves (like sciatica) are a real bitch. In my experience pain killers have almost no affect on THAT pain, but they can make you feel better about, well, pretty much everything including the pain you have to put up with. The neurontin helped, but the only thing that finally fixed mine was a caudal epidural of cortisone. That was a year ago and I haven't had even a twinge of the pinched nerve pain since. PLenty of other back pain, but not that!
Yoga can be a godsend. The right stretches can do amazing, almost magical things, to both body and spirit.
If you're having back spasms, and can't get any muscle relaxants, and can take alcohol, tequila can be pretty effective on that. OR not. It depends. I don't drink any more, but I do have a stash of muscle relaxants just in case of spasms.
I'm in such great shape .....
Yes, it is Gabapentin... I am having that same experience - no pain relief whatsoever but spaciness in abundance. I can totally see them as mood stabilizers - they do a better job of it than the anti-depressants I've taken in the past.
I went and got a TENS machine today - rented it (they want an effing prescription for it, can you believe it??? WTF? It's a little machine for god's sake, not a narcotic! .. ) that helps a lot, but not completely. Not to mention this little unit has already partly broken.. two out of four electrodes kicked the bucket.
I agree with you on the stretches.. It's gone so far at this point that they aren't really helping but they did help my original problem with my SI joint REALLY quickly.
And um... today I did get some wine as a 'natural' pain killer. It did wonders and I managed to catch 3 hours sleep.

Thanks for the advice and commiseration!
