*LOL* So glad I popped in here this AM and, as a result, started my day off with a chuckle.

C_w, what is SI joint pain, pray tell? Is it related to <cringe> sciatica? And *OUCH* ! Sorry you're hurting this AM. When something hurts, I tend to drink wine, myself...not sure why  Perhaps it's just that I don't have the mental capacity right then to mix up something more potent...and we never seem to have good vodka in the freezer these days, for some unknown reason? (I need to remedy that ASAP--reaches for shopping list) That's probably the strongest thing I drink--Russian vodka from an icy glass. And afterward you could hold the cold glass against the aching body part.

PW & LilyPat.. thanks to you both for indulging my whinging. Except for labour I've never been in this much physical pain.

I went to the doc two weeks ago.. the physiotherapist twice and have been doing my exercises which help but then morph the injury into something else. It's now sciatica with possible complicating factors according to my doc, who I saw today. He gave me pills which are supposed to be magic but I still cannot get into any comfortable position to rest. *sigh*there I go again. ;)

maybe I'll have get a little vino for later. cheers, all!

hey, was going to explain the moves to you but i can't write it out so here's a couple of vids. (had the same trouble but my heart can't take the pain killers so i had to work around it. thankfully i already knew yoga.)

this one works wonders:

this whole series is good. (go slowly with these. you'll probably feel like you're doing something you shouldn't be doing but it's all good.)

and walk a lot. barefoot if you can.

hey thanks VK! I'll do these starting tomorrow morning. Thanks for mentioning about 'feeling like you're doing something you shouldn't' because I am a bit of a chicken that way.. if it hurts I think I'm going to do damage. I also have physio tomorrow which essentially has turned out to be clinical yoga.. it'll be interesting to see if the moves are similar to what you've posted.

erg.. I am sorry you couldn't take pain killers! I am on some med that is supposed to be for seizures???!! My doc actually told me 'don't read the label, it'll scare you unnecessarily!' sheesh. anyway they don't do much for the pain to tell the truth, but they do make me sleep so it's something. Here's hoping the yoga will keep this at bay.

Hello from Pioneer Square Seattle! Perelandra and I just enjoyed marvelous Japanese food, now sitting with a couple of cocktails in the dwindling and rare sunshine.

Is it Neurontin? aka Gabepentin? I took that stuff for my pinched nerve pain in my back. It helped tone it down a bit, but also made me kind of spacey. It's used as a mood stabilizer with some folks.

Pinched nerves (like sciatica) are a real bitch. In my experience pain killers have almost no affect on THAT pain, but they can make you feel better about, well, pretty much everything including the pain you have to put up with. The neurontin helped, but the only thing that finally fixed mine was a caudal epidural of cortisone. That was a year ago and I haven't had even a twinge of the pinched nerve pain since. PLenty of other back pain, but not that!

Yoga can be a godsend. The right stretches can do amazing, almost magical things, to both body and spirit.

If you're having back spasms, and can't get any muscle relaxants, and can take alcohol, tequila can be pretty effective on that. OR not. It depends. I don't drink any more, but I do have a stash of muscle relaxants just in case of spasms.

Yes, it is Gabapentin... I am having that same experience - no pain relief whatsoever but spaciness in abundance. I can totally see them as mood stabilizers - they do a better job of it than the anti-depressants I've taken in the past.

I went and got a TENS machine today - rented it (they want an effing prescription for it, can you believe it??? WTF? It's a little machine for god's sake, not a narcotic! .. ) that helps a lot, but not completely. Not to mention this little unit has already partly broken.. two out of four electrodes kicked the bucket.

I agree with you on the stretches.. It's gone so far at this point that they aren't really helping but they did help my original problem with my SI joint REALLY quickly.

And um... today I did get some wine as a 'natural' pain killer. It did wonders and I managed to catch 3 hours sleep. :)

Thanks for the advice and commiseration!

Sounds fabulous LilyPat. The sun went away from us already :(, but we did get 3 nice days this week so I shouldn't complain too much. Hopefully I'll be seeing you in San Fran sometime, if all goes according to plan.

The TENS thing can be helpful. I've found the very best thing is the RIGHT physical therapist, short of getting some kind of epidural.

I sorta liked the mood-stabilizing affects of the Neurontin, but it did make me spacey to where I would miss appointments and things like that. My physical therapist got really pissed off at me because I missed a couple of appointments. I was like "hey, you folks give me all these drugs and then expect me to keep track of what day it is???" But after I had the epidural, the gabepentin didn't mix too well with that, I felt some really black depressive affects from the combination. So I quit the gabepentin, didn't need it for the pain anymore anyway.

I hope you clear up the pinched nerve thing, that can really be almost impossible to work around when it hits you. Mine almost dropped me to my knees a couple of times, while I was on jobs. Like getting tasered or something it seemed, just WHAM! for no apparent reason at times.

^^ I hope that's just a good beer and not a comment on the hostess!

The party was in the real Saloon, so I'm a day late in toasting you, at the end of all things, or the day after the end of all things.

Cheers!

^^^ oh! LOL :bigsmile -- absolutely NOT a comment on the hostess! More like a nod to Ye Olde Speckled Queen Vic' whose Imperial majesty we Canuckleheads drink/barbeque to on this long weekend - aka - 2-4 weekend.

... It's a pretty tasty thing actually ... my fella has a disappointing tendency to choose really punky corporate Canadian brews lately, so I grab something a little less so to go with (maybe the brits will correct any error on that count? For all I know 'Ol' Speckled Hen' is TESCO's finest... :hrumph ) ... As with wine, I am no connoisseur -- often unduly moved by catchy names and or clever labels.

So, here's to the Old, old Speckled Hen: Thanks for giving us a shot at 'responsible government' ... in spite of what we've done with it :blankstare ...

Sounds like the IRL Saloon was a good place to drink up to the NO-pocalips. :burnTV:

Cheers to you and "awomen" too! Today we're on the coffee as it's back to work tomorrow. Is it okay to smoke in here ...?

:sun:

I have to raise a virtual glass to all the citizens and arts supporters who organized and put enough pressure on the Washington State Legislature so that finally, late this evening, on the last day of the special session, a bill passed to maintain funding for our local arts and heritage agency. That means friends won't lose their jobs, many artists and arts organizations will keep their funding, and I won't have to learn how to administer a grant panel process. Yay!!!!!
